Josh Groban

To those that have heard him sing....you know the deal.....Those of you who haven't are thinking to yourselves "Who the F*** is Josh Groban?" well here he is.

2001

2003

His music would probably fall under the catagory of an "aquired taste" so to speak. He's definitely not for anybody. His music is very choral like and his vocal range is that of a baritone or tenor. Some who know no better call it operatic but not really...maybe. I was in choir so I can appreciate a talent like his. I pretty much like anyone who can sing good so of course I like Josh Groban. Some of you will probably call me gay...but no.

I have his first album, it's great stuff! I stil haven't checked out his second album, but I've heard that's good as well. You could call it operatic K-Wise, it's on the pop-ish side of opera, but it's still operatic.

Yeah, he's been labelled as "popera". There's lots of different language songs but a lot of english too. I for one have been a fan for quite a while, and actually saw him in concert last February. I think he might have been even better live than on the cd.
Also, he's really good "calming" music, at least for me when I'm super stressed.

Great thread, K-Wise

I also listen to it to relax Untitled. It definently has that calming factor.

*bump*

Okay, so it really makes me sad that this thread went no further. I refuse to believe that there are no more people here than the 3 of us who like Josh Groban. If you haven't heard him, search him out!! It's worth it!

Well, I'm a guy, and I've listened to Josh Groban, but I'm sorry, I'm not going to say I like it. That song 'You Lift Me Up' (I think thats the one) sounds like a rediculous rip-off of 'Wind Beneath My Wings'.

So are you basing your opinion of him off of one song? (which I, personally, don't think is his best)

Yes, and thats kind of how I buy CD's. I don't buy a CD until I hear a song from the artist that I like. So until I hear something noteworthy from Josh Groban, I'm probably not going to get his CD's. It's kind of my "don't waste you money" plan. Plus I don't know anyone that has it, so...

My mom and her best friend adore him. The first I ever heard of him was when they both were gushing that he was giving a concert in town.

I listened to a couple of his songs. He has a great voice, for sure, but that kind of music (highly arranged, choreographed) I'm just not into.

I think he's a good case of true, exceptional talent being amply rewarded. Rare in the pop world.

Well I just listened to all 5 of the samples on his website, and I liked 2 of them. While reading his discography, I noticed that half his shit wasn't in english. That's a good thing. The only two songs on his website I like were the only two songs they played not in English. I really appreciate the musical accompaniment that goes along with these songs. So I guess you can say I like his not english stuff. One was 'Oceano' and the other was 'Alejate'. So when he sings in English he can fuck off, but if he does the cool songs where its not English, then I'll listen. Thanks Untitled!

My Girlfriend has been a HUGE fan of his for a long time. I decided to give him a listen and see what he was cracked up to be about a year ago and I'm glad I did. I absolutely love his stuff, he's got some cheesiness to him, but for the most part he's just a very talented singer with a lot of operatic influences I think. I saw him when he came back to Detroit this past summer with my girlfriend and I must say, I've been to a lot of concerts and his show was easily in the top 5 shows i've ever been to. You take a whole new appreciation for him when you see him live. His voice just sort of encompasses you and you really feel the emotion in his songs better live. The thing that sealed it for me and made me a "fan" instead of just a casual listener is when he covered Simon and Garfunkel's "America" live and did an amazing job, IMO. I love it, I have 'live at the greek' now (which is from his last tour and its really good).

I have to agree I listen to him to relax a lot, the majority of the music that I listen to is for that purpose and because of seeing him live I also became a fan of Lucia Micarelli this violinist who is in his band...she's only 15 i think and she's an amazing talent and I have her cd and love it. So yea, you can count me with you K-Wise as being a male fan.

lunchbox: I adore that "America" cover too. I'd love to hear him record it too, though live with just him and a piano is phenomenal in its own right....

His voice is perfect for the style of music that he sings. Very powerful and intense. Would you say he's sort of adult contemporary like Celin Dionne except more artsy? The way people talk about him reminds me of Michael Bolton.

I'm not too familiar with him, but to be honest, any popular singer who has at least the ability to sing opera is ok in my book. I think he did some things that I have on a Pavarotti (sp?) cd I have, and I'm pretty sure he's done Nessun Dorma (not my favorite, but an aria from Turandot by some guy from the Romantic/early 20th century) at any rate...it's good that he has some real training and clout and I'm envious of his talent so there. Also,I'm a guy

Not a fan. Little too overly dramatic with the timbre and the overall treatment. I think of him as a male Celine Dion. But he is doing good so good for him. Someone has to do it so it might as well be him.

I had never heard of him before tuesday night 2/1/05... i was riding the Marta Train (Atlanta Ga.) and there were an unsual number of well dressed, well spoken, upper middle class white women late 20's early 30's riding... and they were all talking amongst themselves so I took my head phones off to listen in... they were all headed downtown to his concert. I say... i think i will give him a listen so I can at least talk intelligently to any of the above mentioned females if it comes up again... i could then convincingly lie about liking him and all.... sounds like a plan.

Josh Groban is a extremely talented guy . . . although i wish they would give him better material, it appears that his material is sometimes redundent . . . but doesn't mean it doesn't make my heart sing . . . his voice is purely gorgeous, deep, yet with subtle feeling . . .

Josh Groban ROCKS
