Recommend a song to the community. - Tilted Forum Project Discussion Community

Leave a one-song recommendation. If you love all of the songs done by a particular band, pick the one song that you think will get a listener hooked on their music. Try to make it something that not everyone has probably heard, but it's ok if it's popular, just as long as YOU like it. Describe the song as much as you can (style, speed, enjoyable parts, etc). Make it a general rule to not post another recommendation until, say, at least 5 other people have made one after yours. That way we can keep this thread as a community effort rather than have one person expressing his/her own opinions. Most important of all: POST THE SONG EVEN IF YOU THINK NO ONE WILL LIKE IT! This is your chance to express YOUR choice in music, and to lend those in search of new music a helping hand. Thanks in advance for participating!

Here's my first recommendation:
"I Spit On Your Grave" by Sinergy.
This song starts off fast from the beginning. The singing is hair band-ish, but the guitar work is phenomenal. Make sure you listen during the guitar solos and you'll see what I mean.

"Big Sky/Baddest of the Bad" by Reverend Horton Heat. "Big Sky" is an instrumental intro for "Baddest of the Bad", so they are pretty much one song.

Shit kicking, nitro burning rockabilly on speed!

from africa brass
get the complete sessions reissue--there are 3 version of the track on it, each quite different from the others.

throughout, eric dolphy's arrangements are excellent--all low brass, really interesting ways of handling such a horn section.
of the 3 versions of "africa" my favorite is the second--the mid-tempo version during the course of which elvin jones just explodes on drums.
gives you a really good idea of what the talk was all about on his drumming.
and it is astonishing.
excellent stuff.
play it loud, of course.

"Cupid" performed by Sam Cooke. His voice is as smooth as any velvet, and he stays slightly behind the beat all the way through the song. The tension created by his smooth voice and lazy-beat singing is juicy and marvelous.

I was once in a band that played this song, and I started to count it off to begin playing. I stopped and asked the drummer if I was counting it off too slow. He replied, "It's impossible to do Sam Cooke too slow."

And THAT is the definition of "laid back."

Super catchy "alternative rock" tune. Great guitar hook opening (with nice use of stereo effect for overlaid guitar parts). Fun chorus with some call and response action.

Pleasing, accessible alt rock.

I'm not even much of a Pantera fan, but so far, everyone who I've had listen to the song that is a metal fan loves it. It's fast, heavy, and the guitar on it is incredible.

Alrighty then,
Blue Öyster Cult - Perfect Water. Straightforward rock and roll, with Buck Dharma dealing some particularly tasty riffs. The twist, of course, is that it has a peculiar set of lyrics, something between suicide by drowning, dreaming about being a mermaid, and a lust for professional oceanographers. It's not their weirdest, nor their rockinest, nor their most obscure, but it is some of all and catchy without being too catchy.

(I'll most definitely recommend other songs later.)

Good one spectre, the only other song I care from them is the cover of Cat Scratch Fever. Really don't know what to suggest unless some of you like Punk rock, then check out Dropkick Murphy's "Walk Away" or any other song by them for that matter.

Side three of Rush's second live album, Exit...Stage Left (the double album, I don't have it on cd yet) has three songs: Broon's Bane, The Trees, and Xanadu all run together so it sounds like one really long, cool song. I don't smoke weed anymore, nor do I advocate its use, however, if you're gonna get high anyway...fuckin' A.

I used to hate live albums until I did the "sound guy" job for a local cover band. Since then I tend to judge musicians by how they sound live. Anybody can sound great in a studio with overdubs and many, many tries to get it right.

The problem with spiderbait - is they don't just do one thing (if that is a problem). Personally, I think "buy me a pony" is their coolest song (but it is a couple of albums old.

The Romanza from Vaughan Williams 5th symphony (The London Symphony Orchestra directed by Bryden Thomson)

Flowing beatiful music with various themes that comes and goes..and then towards the end a handful of notes played by a horn. Dont know why, but the weird solitude of these notes chokes me up every time

This piece made me appreciate horns and trumpets a whole lot more.

"Regulate" by Nate Dogg and Warren G.
This is by far my favorite rap song ever. Sure, it's gangsta rap, but the beat to it, along with the way they rap to it is just amazing. Not to mention it reminds me of the "good ol' days" when gangsta rap was in.

Spider Web by Joan Osborne. But this song is great, it's medium paced and soulful. She's singing about Ray Charles, so it's kind of a tribute to The Man, and she just belts it out in a way that Ray would be proud.

One of the prettiest songs I've ever heard. Ironically enough it gets commonly mistaken for a love song when in truth it's more like a love song about death and his love of it. You'd never know it by just hearing it though because the mood of the whole song is so soft and sweet. It's absolutely beautiful to hear. The whole freakin album is full of great songs. This one imparticualar is slow, soft, lots of orchestral arrangements, I think 2 or 3 part vocal harmonies all throughout out the background during the chorus. The sounds of it are just very soothing and blend together to make a very pleasing sound.

In Keeping Secrets of Silent Earth:3 by Coheed and Cambria

This song in particular, although I love their albums too. Their albums work together to tell a story, although parts of it have yet to be figured out by anyone. Give them a listen.

So many emotions, intense lyrics and amazing vocals set this song apart from all others. It is an experience, a rather long song too. Enjoy ))

Hmmm.....

My recommendation is "Waterfall" - Jimi Hendrix

This is an extremely rare (at least I think it is) song.

Amazing wall of sound from a three-piece band. As usual, Jimi's guitar work is innovative and well-styled. When you close your eyes, the music vibrates through you and becomes highly visual (without the aid of drugs by the way).

A thoughtful arrangement utilizing the electrifying skills of Noel Redding and Mitch Mitchell ( I think, but not sure - sounds like it though)

Jimi's lyrics are mature and poetic - Comparisons can be drawn to the poets from the romantic era.

Find this song anyway you can. Download if you have to. It doesn't matter what genre of music you like, everyone should be able to enjoy this song.

I gotta say 'Cicatriz' by the Mars Volta. Amazing song, truly something everyone needs to hear. It's almost just one big crazy jam, with awesome bass lines, catchy chorus, and huge fantastic solos. Awesome.

stinkfist Upright	I gotta say 'Cicatriz' by the Mars Volta. Amazing song, truly something everyone needs to hear. It's almost just one big crazy jam, with awesome bass lines, catchy chorus, and huge fantastic solos. Awesome.
