Avril Lavigne
Does anyone else here hate Avril Lavigne? I think that stupid little shit is one of the worst things to happen to music in a long time. I found this funny"Anti-Avril" site if you want to check it out.

that was the funniest cut-clip I've ever seen. Al cut that clip into a hilarious segment. I haven't laughed at a Weird Al segment in about 40 years, but this had me laughing out loud. Does anyone know where the original interview (that Al cut together) came from?

Well I'd like to sell 14 million records too and while people are bitching about how much I would suck, just living a life most people couldn't even comprehend would be good enough in my books, if I gave a shit.
Sometimes I have to wonder why people hate her so much. Fame? Fortune? Youth? Talent? Is it the ability to do something that most people can't, won't, or are to afraid to try?

The last time someone made an Avril thread I defended her, and so I shall once again. Avril is not nearly as bad as the majority of people think she is. I'd rather listen to Avril over any rapper or something like that. You talk about no talent ass monkeys? Look at goons like 50 Cent or Ludacris, now there are some no talents idiots right there with nothing better to do with their time than flaunt their possessions, at least Avril actually sings. I could ramble on and on but I'll stop there, for now.
Until we meet again. . .

Her music could probably best be summed up by catchy little diddies --it's harmless stuff and it doesn't offend like some people's so-called music does.
Her stuff won't stand the test of time, it'll fade off into obscurity Plus you have to give the girl some credit for succeeding without bimbo-ing it up like Britney or Christina or the other Disnified chick who's name I can't remember.

I might agree that Avril is just a little better than 50 Cent. It'd be agreement out of apathy. But take rapper Aesop Rock, for instance. It's no contest. He's roughly 1,000,000,093 times better than Avril. Yeah, she can sing, but her lyrics are vapid and her music not interesting enough to compensate.

This music is mass marketed toward impressionable teenagers for the sole purpose of making a quick buck for the labels. People say, "If she sucks so bad, then why did she sell millions of albums?" Same reason Milli Vanilli, Vanilla Ice, NKOTB, NSync, BSB, etc did. The thing is, she seriously DOESN'T have talent. She does NOT have more talent than Ludacris or 50 Cent, trust me on that one. This hatred of modern music is not like those grandparents who think Led Zeppelin and KISS are a bunch of noise, either. People dislike most of today's music because they realize how TRULY talentless it is and how quickly it's churned out toward those who will buy it without question. This music wasn't made for the sole purpose of being creative. She was picked, had songs written for her, and was given an image. She will not be remembered in 10 years. Sure, bands like Soundgarden and Alice In Chains were signed up ONLY after Nirvana was discovered because labels thought they'd make them a quick buck, but the difference was... they were actually talented and wrote songs about real things as opposed to writing shit like "he was a sk8r boi, she said cu l8er boi" C'mon, my 7 year old brother could write that.. I notice a lot of people on this board who dislike rap and are quick to claim that rappers have no talent. Just because you don't like that genre of music doesn't mean the person in question isn't talented. At least rappers write their own stuff and throw out nice rhymes. You might not like what they rap about, but have you ever heard them freestyle? You can't tell me that isn't talent. 2 minutes of freestyle from the WORST rapper would contain more talent than Avril's entire career put together. She is the epitome of non-talent. If anyone should complain about no-talent goons, it should be HER, not rap/country stars. I could write PAGES containing valid arguments about why she has no talent. If I were to write about why I dislike country singers, I wouldn't really get beyond the "I don't like that type of music" argument. I don't like the music, but at least I recognize that they have talent. You could seriously look at the trend in popular music over the past 10 years and notice a straight DECLINE in quality. I don't see this changing anytime soon simply because the general public is too ignorant and closed minded to see the difference. So yeah, IMO, that's why people get angry about it.. at least, that's why *I* get angry about it.

I agree with most of what Stompy said above, very eloquent.
One thing to say in Avril's defense is that at least she doesn't prance around dressed like a whore. It's the Brittney Aguleras of this world that really piss me off, a total lack of talent AND a bad role model for young girls.

Personally, I think Avril is okay; I dig most of her singles (except for the one that's out now, that one's lyrics is just shitty, sorry), though I think the rest of her music is nothing worth bragging about. The only problem I have is that her music is often under the label of punk-rock, which is ludicrous to me. Again, Avril is okay in my book, but I don't see why on Earth she'd ever be even considered punk-material besides "Sk8er Boi".

It pains me to see that people get so defensive when they see differing opinions, and cannot justify a correct or logical response to it, other than "Stop hating!" There are very few acts with any talent anymore- the ones that have talent can only be heard through word of mouth. I hope something changes, because I cannot listen to any more "Sk8er Boi" lyrics anymore!

Not saying this is you are all but... I do tend to get very tired of the music snobs who will only listen to somebody who has a fan base of about 14 people. Once they get popular they start up the "sell out" chant. Avirl? Meh. Don't care one way or another. But yeah, the lyrics on her new single are pretty lame.

Why is "i hate ______" even a debatable thing? Why does it matter? How do you feel about people in general who go out of their way to talk shit about something that really doesn't matter. Some people like avril, some don't, to each their own. I think that it is just a tad bit self-absorbed for anyone to 1. think that they know what good music is for everybody else and 2. to offer, unsolicited, their opinion which by it's very nature tends to insult the taste of all who disagree. It's like if you just got a new pair of shoes and you're feeling all fat and sassy in them and some random stranger walks up and proceeds to tell you that you're shoes suck. Who the fuck are they to tell you what's right and wrong when it comes to harmless matters of personal taste? It's all just a little bit too elitest for my taste.

To answer your question as to why when someone dosen't like an artist who's popular is seen as being hateful, Rubyee, see the above post about her being a 'no talent ass monkey', sounds a bit hateful and spiteful if you ask me. I'm not saying that everybody is being hateful and spiteful, but some people do come off that way. And I am completely with Averett on the sellout stuff, I totally agree with you there.

As far as I know, I've never heard any of her music. So her existence as had no impact on my life. Other than reading about how much people either hate or love her/her music.
