Favorite song parts
 

This is like a favorite song thread, but for PARTS of songs that you like. Some songs have parts where you have to stop whatever you are doing to turn the volume up and enjoy how awesome that part is.

For example, I love "Layla." The entire song is great. But, the part of that song I absolutely love is before the piano starts, and the guitars are all over the place and their are a few vocal tracks riding on eachother. The climax, you could say, if the piano part is the, uh, afterlude (or whatever the phrasing is).

Or in "Welcome to the Jungle", when Axl screams "You're gonna dyieeeeeee!"

Hero of the Day by Metallica (SM version). The guitar solo with the violin accompaniment is amazing, making it probably my fravorite song ever.

I'll throw another one out... at the end of the Portishead song "Half Day Closing" when Beth Gibbons' wail gets distorted to the point where it sounds like a siren.

Yea, I think this is a good thread. I also point out the best parts in like every song. I'll do the song I'm listening to as well. In date rape by sublime the best part is "but the guards paid no attention to his cries" wait maybe its "he was butt raped by a large inmate"

In soil by system of a down it's the solo, the part thats like

ba na na na ba na na na ba na na na ba na na

In The Hunger, by The Distillers, when it's all quiet and then the drums and guitar kick in all hardcore and she begins to scream.

Stew, "The Instrument of Pain", the instance of the chorus that begins with just the female vocalist singing. It's great.

The opening drum solo for "Hot for Teacher" must always be turned up to 11.

Belle & Sebastian's "Beautiful": "If you knew what's going on in her life, what's going on in her life..." That fragment right there. It's, um, beautiful.

"Paranoid Android" - Radiohead. The "Rain down" section.

The guitar intro in The Beatles "I've just seen a face" gives me goosebumps to this day.

I like Mitch Mitchell's drumming on Fire with Jimi Hendrix. The drum intro is very good, as is the drumming for the rest of the song.

Also, does anyone else think that the guitar riff in Layla sounds a lot like Until it Sleeps - Metallica?

Tool - Pushit (the live version from Salival). Probably the best climax ever, especially since the song is 14 minutes long. Just thinking about it gets me all tingly.

I absolutely love the base lead in and the first two lines:

It just sounds sooooooo cool and I'm not sure why.

And FoolThemAll, I TOTALLY agree with that part of Drunkship of Lanters. Kickass.

Lostprophet - Burn, Burn @ 1:50 into the song until it ends gotta have that up loud when the music and all comes back into play ;)

Nothingface - I Wish I Was A Communist @ 1:08 when all is pretty quiet and then the drums start to pick up..just goes hard from there, just awesome imo!

I like the rhythm/lead part of Heartbreaker by Led Zeppelin after the guitar solo without the rest of the band

Intro to Chop Suey by System of a Down, the end to Politik by Coldplay.

Nirvana Unplugged- Where Did You Sleep Last Night?
At the 3:01 mark, it changes and gets more intense, until the climax at the end. One of Nirvana's last performances, you can really feel the emotion.

Also, Tool-Forty Six and Two. at 5:04, right after the kickass guitar solo until the end of the song.

I listen to both of these at full blast all the time.

The chorus of "The Masterplan" by Oasis makes me all warm and fuzzy, as do the harmonica sections they use when playing it live. Ah, beautiful.

Colt 45 is a great song! ...eat that pussy like shrimp fried rice!

Fantomas - Delirium Cordia:

10:50 (when the scraping of bone starts)

15:33 - when the high pitched moaning starts, but suddenly fades into this eerie piano at 16:00. It reminds me of blood flowing down some rocks.. like a gentle stream in the middle of the night.

Faith No More - Midlife Crisis : "Go on and wring my neck.." till the chorus and "What an inheritance..." till the chorus. Very raw, and along with the music, sounds delightfully demented. Love it!

Tomahawk - Harelip:

or Behind Blue eyes (Limp Bizkit Version) before the says "L-I-M-P discover. " I like the guitar solo by slash at the end of Novermber Rain. "sunday Bloody sunday" the guitar in there is good.

In AFI's Death of Seasons, at 1:10ish, when it turns all technoy, and it has the lyrics to match... That song caught me the first time I heard it, and I was amazed at how good it sounded, being one who hates techno with a passion..

Oh, and KWSN, I believe I have you to thank for my new obsession with Blood Brothers.. in Ambulance vs. Ambulance, there's the parts when he's going "never see your wife and children..." and "never see your office again...", and I love the singing in the background in Burn Piano Island Burn..

Here are a few of my favorites:

Nelly, P. Diddy, Murphy Lee (quite a cast, I know) - Shake Ya Tailfeather

The beginning starts with the "Atlanta Braves chant," and is followed by police sirens.. Then, there is total silence for one second, and a "Ding!" sound. I love it.

Nickelback - Someday

This is a great song.. I really like it a lot. I really like the chorus in this song. It's really emotional and it kind of makes me wish I was in the situation the singer is singing about (as wrong as that may sound).

The song really strikes me, and I am currently single, but it makes me kind of desire to be in the situation this song is about, just so I would be able to relate to, and enjoy it more. Anyway, I am straying from the task at hand here. :)

Everlast - What It's Like

I really dig Everlast's music. This song opens with a description of a homeless man outside a liquor store, begging for some change. He asks a man for some money, to which he is told to get a job, etc.

I used to have a mindset a lot like the man telling the homeless guy off, and this song kind of gave me a reality check. It really put things into perspective, and I credit this song with helping me to have less of a negative view of the homeless in general. It's easy to tell them to go get a job like the rest of us, but much harder to actually listen to their story long enough to sympathize with them.

Guster - Medicine

Another favorite of mine. Honestly, I couldn't tell you all the lyrics, I just dig the song. I like the solo portion at the beginning a lot. I think I enjoy this song more by not knowing all the lyrics, just because I think one of the reasons I enjoy it so much is because I don't understand what every single word is.

Saliva - Click Click Boom

Love the chorus, love the loudness. It's a nice rock out song. I really like how the guitar riffs tie into the lyrics and mimic them at times. It's a bumpin' song.

Scapegoat Wax - Aisle 10

I work in a super market. I can relate to this song; it's kind of freaky. :) This song reminds me of that short story/poem A&P where the guy quits his job to get with the chicks in the parking lot, and gets denied. It's not the same really, but similiar.

I work back in produce, and we are always checking out the ladies. It's probably one of the few things I enjoy about the job. If I had a theme song for a current stage of my life, this could be it!

I like the part where the singer says he is finally going to get the courage to talk to this hot customer, and imagines what it will be like if they were to hook up. The scream of despair at the end is also a highlight.

Tupac - Changes

Awesome song. Whenever he raps about the cops shooting blacks, it reminds me of the times this has happened in the news lately, and how in many cases it seems excessive force was used.

Santana - Why Don't You and I

A great feel good song; and one many guys can relate to. The lyrics regarding him trying to talk to a female and the words coming out wrong is something most guys are likely familiar with.

Outkast - Happy Valentine's Day

"When arrows don't penetrate; Cupid grabs the pistol." 'Nuff said. Love it. :)

3 Doors Down - Here Without You

Another song that makes me kind of wish I was in the situation the singer is in. It's hard to describe. Granted, he is singing about missing a girl he really loved a lot, but in order to have that experience he must have really loved before, and thus misses her a lot now. It's weird how people desire things they don't, or can't have. I guess that is what's going on with me and this song here. The songs lyrics aren't that diverse, but I think it works in this case. I like the quiet opening, with the solo voice. The entire song is pretty much a solo, but the opening is really effective.

Bassic - Zurich

This song has one lyric, and it's repeated throughout: "Zurich." It's driven by the beats and synthesizers, and near the middle it slows down to a single instrument, and then picks up again at a rapid pace.

Trapt - These Walls

The guitar work at the end of this song is all excited and "high," but right before ending, it all slows down and drops the listener down lightly. Very nice.

AudioVent - The Energy

The intro to this soung is great. The song is about energy, and it starts like it's slowly building up energy, until 30 seconds in it stands up and kicks your ass. I'm a fan.

in when levee breaks by zeppelin, page plays an accompanied change, cant think of a better way to describe it, but the tone and effect of the guitar is so awesome

Opeth - The leper affinity

The part where Mikael is singing:

is pure orgasm :D

In "So Much Pain" by Ja Rule(whom I hate), I fucking LOVE Tupac's verse, and my favorite part is right before he starts rapping, he says "They'll never take me alive" and it repeats about three times before he finally busts out his rap, which is one of the greatest rap verses in the history of hip hop, despite it being on a track who's feature artist is Ja Fucking Rule.

The only Matchbox Twenty song I like, Bright Lights, when the piano and drums "ba baba ba baba ba" and Rob Thomas screams "GOD'S SAKES TURN AROUND" and the solo that follows.

Taking Back Sunday in the song "Head Club" when the lead singer desprately moans out "i'm sick of writing everysong... I'm sick of writing every song about you..."

In John Mayer's Room For Squares, the song "St. Patricks Day" when it turns all christmas(y)

In Too Far Gone by The All American Rejects where the bridge is a distorted guitar with a synth. Very cool

In the song "Reptilia" from The Stroke's newest album Room on fire, the solo is great and the lyrics "didn't I tell you this world is not for you" and the lyrics there after. Great song
