We Built This City - Worst Song Ever??

http://story.news.yahoo.com/news?tmp...orstrecordever

It may not be the best song, but I always liked it, and there are so many countless worst songs out there. This is why I hate the Top 50, Top 100, whatever lists.

I always thought it was catchy, to say the least. Their previous form as Jefferson Airplane... I think they are one of the best bands ever.

Lists do suck. I think the Archie's "Sugar Sugar" (you are my candy, girl) is the worst song ever. I wonder if that made the list.

Madonna's "Die Another Day" gets my vote... I know it's a little new to be considered the worst of all time, but at least "Sugar Sugar" and "We Built This City" TRY to have melodies

Who cares? Anything dealing with Nelly and Puff Daddy is automatically a tie for #1.

These Music lists are always wrong, and Blender accomplishes the physically impossible by simultaneously sucking and blowing. Frank Zappa, however, put it better than I ever could:
Quote:
All the good music has already been written by people with wigs and stuff.

Most people wouldn't know music if it came up and bit them on the ass.

Most rock journalism is people who can't write interviewing people who can't talk for people who can't read.

One of my favorite philosophical tenets is that people will agree with you only if they already agree with you. You do not change people's minds.

Some scientists claim that hydrogen, because it is so plentiful, is the basic building block of the universe. I dispute that. I say there is more stupidity than hydrogen, and that is the basic building block of the universe.
Basically, they lose all credibility when they throw out Macarena and Who Let the Dogs Out. (Though We Built This City and Shiny Happy People and Stand are all high order stinkers).

Why should I lend any credence whatsoever to a list that someone else compiled, based soley upon criteria that I may or may not use? I don't need a "list", compiled by a self proclaimed expert telling me what is good and what is bad. I have two ears and one brain, and am therefore eminately qualified to make these types of decisions for myself, based upon what I like...no one else. I, for one, happen to like The Sounds Of Silence, but that's me.

How could they put Ob-La-Di in there! It has to be the craziest Beatles song they
ever put out, and probably one of the only two I listen to regularly...

Wonder if Achy-Breaky Heart made it .....

They listed the top five on the news this morning and Achy-Breaky Heart was number 2.

I can't pay any attention to lists like these though. I love The Sounds of Silence, yet I didn't see Marcy Playground's Sex and Candy or anything by Puddle of Mudd, so they obviously don't know what they are talking about

"Hot in the City" by Billy Idol should be placed as a co-winner next to "We Built This City", as the ultimate in corporate rock. Especially the part in the center where the music drops out, and Billy screams the name of a city. Which changes, based on which radio station is playing the song. That, by definition, is selling out.

Stupid list. Wesley Willis had over fifty "songs" before he finally died, and every one of them should be on that list before any of the songs that are there now.

Ha ha, Wesley Willis... singer of such classics as "Northwest Airlines" "Rock and Roll McDonalds" "My Mother Smokes Crack Rocks" and "Suck My Dog's Dick."

I was listening to some Wesley Willis songs, and I almost had a nervous breakdown. Seriously, I started to feel mentally disturbed.

Also, what about nearly every Christmas song?

I personally say that I have to like that song. Now I feel stupid for liking it. It has a good beat, and I can listen to it without wanting to turn it off. It might not be the best songs list, but I dont think it should be on the worst songs list. And not the worst ever song. They also said the end by the doors is one of the worst. That is a damn good song to listen to when you are depressed or high. Stupid lists, they speak for the panel of people who wrote it. Those bastards.

I would have to put this song on the "worst song by an artist" list, but I don't know about worst song ever. When you grow up with Jefferson Airplane and early Starship and they come out with crap like that, you really hate it! Not much unlike being a huge Styx fan and when they came out with shit like Mr. Roboto and Babe, it made me want to hurl!

Well I'm not surprised. The man was a schizophrenic that they pulled out of a mental assylum and into a recording studio. He wouldn't shake your hand, but he would headbutt you in greeting, which explains why he had a dent on his forehead.

To be fair, I can understand why they put it at the top, that song was simply made to sell records. Didn't they even have a part where a radio station could put it's own call letters on it to localize it?

Well, they're obviously just trying to stir up controversy and get their magazine's name out there. They could've at least tried to be a little more subtle about it.

Wait, I know what you mean, but does that imply "We built this City" is as good as the yugo is bad?

Plus, do people realize that this is the Maxim music magazine? The people on the radio that were talking about it didn't.

Probably the reason why "We Built this City" is the WORST because it documents the worst of what used to be a great rock band.

Bad bands can EASILY create bad songs. ...but when good bands go bad, it is much more horrific.

Exactly. Jefferson Airplane made some great music. They were a shell of their former selves in the 80's and really tanked when they became simply "starship"

Wasn't he the retarted guy who used the preprogramed Casio keyboard for all his songs? At least, that is how he was described to me. I never heard his stuff, though I think I want to at least once. Should be right up there with Pat Boone doing "Enter Sandman" for comidy value....

Heh. I have that entire album (No More Mr. Nice Guy... In a Metal Mood). The band is amazing, the horn section kicks ass. And somehow, it remains so wrong. 'Panama' is particularly worth hearing.

Yeah, as sick as it is, I really do love that CD. I myself really go for his cover "Holy Diver". I think it might be the fact that Dio is doing back up vocals for him that really makes it all that much more funny. But that CD is just sooooooo wrong. So far the only thing I've found close to it is Joe Peshie(no idea how to spell his name) doing "gangster" rap. Now that is priceless.
