We Built This City - Worst Song Ever??
http://story.news.yahoo.com/news?tmp...orstrecordever
It may not be the best song, but I always liked it, and there are so many countless worst songs out there. This is why I hate the Top 50, Top 100, whatever lists. |
I always thought it was catchy, to say the least. Their previous form as Jefferson Airplane... I think they are one of the best bands ever.
Lists do suck. I think the Archie's "Sugar Sugar" (you are my candy, girl) is the worst song ever. I wonder if that made the list. |

Madonna's "Die Another Day" gets my vote... I know it's a little new to be considered the worst of all time, but at least "Sugar Sugar" and "We Built This City" TRY to have melodies

"The Night Chicago Died" -- Paper Lace
"Tie a Yellow Ribbon 'Round the Old Oak Tree" -- Tony Orlando and Dawn "The Night the Lights Went Out in Georgia" -- Vicki Lawrence. "Gypsies, Tramps, and Thiefs" -- Chef "Dancing in the Moonlight" -- King Harvest People, the '70s were the Golden Age of bad pop music. Anything, absolutely anything by the Carpenters makes me want to hurl. Bachman Turnover Overdrive, Ohio Players -- the Hall of Shame stretches on and on. |
Where is ....every rap song ever?
*edit* I forgot, thats not actually music, so i guess it doesn't apply. |

These Music lists are always wrong, and Blender accomplishes the physically impossible by simultaneously sucking and blowing. Frank Zappa, however, put it better than I ever could:

Why should I lend any credence whatsoever to a list that someone else compiled, based soley upon criteria that I may or may not use? I don't need a "list", compiled by a self proclaimed expert telling me what is good and what is bad. I have two ears and one brain, and am therefore eminately qualified to make these types of decisions for myself, based upon what I like...no one else. I, for one, happen to like The Sounds Of Silence, but that's me.

Couldn't have said it better myself. |
How could they put Ob-La-Di in there! It has to be the craziest Beatles song they
ever put out, and probably one of the only two I listen to regularly... Wonder if Achy-Breaky Heart made it ..... :p |

I can't pay any attention to lists like these though. I love The Sounds of Silence, yet I didn't see Marcy Playground's Sex and Candy or anything by Puddle of Mudd, so they obviously don't know what they are talking about :p |
"Hot in the City" by Billy Idol should be placed as a co-winner next to "We Built This City", as the ultimate in corporate rock. Especially the part in the center where the music drops out, and Billy screams the name of a city. Which changes, based on which radio station is playing the song. That, by definition, is selling out.
|
We Built This City has always ranked up there for me as one of, if not the, worst songs ever. Nothin's Gonna Stop Us Now by Starship is pure crap too.
|
The people that put this list together obviously have no brains. Sounds of Silence is one of my FAVORITE songs.
|
Sounds of Silence is a moronic pick...
...there's not much wrong with Shiny Happy People either. |
Stupid list. Wesley Willis had over fifty "songs" before he finally died, and every one of them should be on that list before any of the songs that are there now.

I was listening to some Wesley Willis songs, and I almost had a nervous breakdown. Seriously, I started to feel mentally disturbed. Also, what about nearly every Christmas song? |
I personally say that I have to like that song. Now I feel stupid for liking it. It has a good beat, and I can listen to it without wanting to turn it off. It might not be the best songs list, but I dont think it should be on the worst songs list. And not the worst ever song. They also said the end by the doors is one of the worst. That is a damn good song to listen to when you are depressed or high. Stupid lists, they speak for the panel of people who wrote it. Those bastards.
|
I would have to put this song on the "worst song by an artist" list, but I don't know about worst song ever. When you grow up with Jefferson Airplane and early Starship and they come out with crap like that, you really hate it! Not much unlike being a huge Styx fan and when they came out with shit like Mr. Roboto and Babe, it made me want to hurl!

I think that song is worthy of the top of the list. Of course every song made by Chicago could be on that list.
|
Yeah, I never put much stock in Best of or Worst of lists, either. i can think of far worse songs than that one, and I actually don't really agree with most of that list.
|
To be fair, I can understand why they put it at the top, that song was simply made to sell records. Didn't they even have a part where a radio station could put it's own call letters on it to localize it?
|
Well, they're obviously just trying to stir up controversy and get their magazine's name out there. They could've at least tried to be a little more subtle about it.
|
i bet it backfires on 'em then. I mean, if Car & Driver came out and said the Yugo was the best car EVER, it would create a lot of controversy, and it would also lose them at least half of their subscriber base ;)

Plus, do people realize that this is the Maxim music magazine? The people on the radio that were talking about it didn't. |
Probably the reason why "We Built this City" is the WORST because it documents the worst of what used to be a great rock band.
Bad bands can EASILY create bad songs. ...but when good bands go bad, it is much more horrific. |

Exactly. Jefferson Airplane made some great music. They were a shell of their former selves in the 80's and really tanked when they became simply "starship" |
the song Pass The Dutchie gets my vote!
|
my vote goes to You Light Up My Life by Debbie Boone
