Hey The Darkness kick ass leave them out of this! That being said I'm with Bob here...I think their a good band..they make fun cool songs but certainly not KICK ASS to me. And as for the White Stripes..doesn't take a genius to see that Jack has a hint of blues interest..so does the band...the Strokes however..do not...So I don't really think they sound the same but I can see where he's going..they both follow a simple formula that works for them. Lots of people are blown out of proportion..as long as they're not TOO blown out of proportion like say Eminem for example I usually just ignore the hype and take them for what they are.

Asta!!

Yeah, I never did like the Strokes.
However, I do have an entertaining story involving the Strokes to share:

At the Big Day Out festival in Auckland (NZ) this year, the Strokes were unfortunate enough to be the band playing right before Metallica. So naturally the crowd was mostly full of rough, leather-clad, skinheaded chaps who couldnt give a sideways toss about the strokes or their music.
Halfway thru the set, in between songs one avid metallica fan yells out "You suck! Fuck off and bring on metallica!" and the singer from the band (quite stoned i think) just looks at him and says "well... well fuck you, you... meathead faggot."
And I swear everyone in the stadium laughed at this poor guy. You got owned in front of everyone by the dude from the strokes. How do you feel.

On a side note, the Mars Volta were at the same festival, and blew my mind right out the back of my head and on to the poor bastard behind me. Awesome.

It's b/s. Everybody hates them on the grounds of the hype. I found their "Modern Age" demo in the $1 dollar bin about a month or two before the album hit and I was hooked from that. WAAAAHHHH! I want my bands to be underrated and obscrure, the kind that you have to work in an indie record store to have even heard about because they released one goddamn EP in the summer of 1982 on 8 track and you and your best friend have the only two copies, as well as the only remaining operational 8-track player in your beat up, brown early 90's Cadillac that you have so wittily covered in stickers from local dives where the bands that the next generation of scenester pieces of shit will play for 50 dollars a gig so that they record an EP on CD that some asshole 20 years from now that looks, acts, and dresses just like you can work in an indie record store, hear about the band from the drummer's kid when he comes in to pick up Korn's Greatest Hits: Volume 18, spend 3 days looking for it until he finds it under his couch, and then gloats for years about how he rediscovered the shit. WAAAAAAHHHHHHH! I like music that is so technically complicated that I can barely listen to it without getting a fucking migraine. Nevermind if it doesn't sound good at all. It's complicated and dark and gives me an excuse to wear black clothes and black makeup and hate my parents and make fun of Hot Topic even though your clothes are still made by the SAME FUCKING POLYNESIAN CHILDREN. Never mind that I'm full of shit, because I'm too dark and brooding to hang out with people who realize that conforming to certain social norms is healthy and may actually make you not just a more approachable and successful person, but also a person that is less likely to die of drug overdose, AIDS, infected piercing, infected tatoo, infected ruptured spleen that you didn't know you had because you're too busy getting drunk every night and trashing about in a circle to get your pent up sexual frustration and self loathing out in the most deevolved and violent manner possible. WAAAAAHHHHHH! They're on the radio. I don't listen to the radio. I only listen to the music that I steal online from the unsigned and unknown artists, THE ONE"S THAT CAN AFFORD IT THE LEAST. Not that it matters. They're usually unknown or unsigned for a reason and that reason is that they suck. WAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHH! They only have one genre. I want my music to fuse as many genres as possible in a futile attempt to create something new through forced breeding of musical genres due to a hopeless postmodernist outlook at everything creative, resulting in the auditory equivalent of being brutally sodomized by a broken broom handle while hot wax and rusty nails are shoved into every orifice. Everything has already been done before, even what I'm saying right now. JESUS! How about this: try combining the musical stylings of a bucket of bleach and ammonia inside of an oversized plastic trash bag with the complex soundscape of you inside of that trash bag? Yeah! It'll be awesome. Your little posse of thrift store clad neo-Bohemians will be so proud. WAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAHHHHHHHHH!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!! I only listen to rap/hiphop/rnb/gangsta and in doing so achieve the modern day equivalent of black face by taking another culture and raping it in ways that even the most perverted Japanese porn director cringe and tear holes in his own skin. Yo YO Yo Nahmsayin. I refuse to respect my own culture cuz i be a mad azz gangsta mutha fuka dat be slappin dem hoes, makin dat chedda, and pimpin dat mike like it's my bitch, despite the fact that I drive my dad's Ford Pinto, am 25 and still living in my parent's basement, am dating a high schooler, and the last time I tried to even talk to a black person, my appearance and demeanor were so offensive that they spat on me. WAAAAAAAAAAAAAHHHHHHHHHHHHHH!!!!!!!!!! I only listen to techno. Machines don't mess up like humans do. Machines don't start wars. Machines don't need strings. Machines don't need to breath. Machines are the way of the future. One day, People will be Cyborgs. Won't that be cool? Just like in anime! Hey, techno fruit: You want a cyborg? Go fuck a blender. WAAAAAAAAAAAAAHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHH!!!!!!!!!!!!!! I only listen to Christian/Atheist/Agnostic/Hindu/Jewish/Islamic/New Church of Silver Mount Zion in the name of the Great Jesus Vacuum Cleaner. Why? I'll tell you at great length with little substance, regurgitated mantras, and other people's ideas. I get off on religious fervor and unleash my repressed desires in a blinding jesus based rage on the non believers. Death to those who deny the Sacred Wood Beast! i saw the strokes live before their first record came out.
that is where i decided that they did not really interest me.

i am not sure that i really understand the impetus behind the neo-mod thing in any event.

That's a pretty bold thing to say considering that i'm 100% positive that you haven't listened to every "The" band out there.

A good portion of the most classic, influencial bands of all time had "The" in their name.

Don't worry. I wasn't flattering any particular person with that rant. Don't think I'd waste my time referring to some character someone likes to live out their life through online instead of moving out of their parents basement. Get a job, get a policy, and get off my fucking case.

And yes, I really am this mean in real life.

That stupid in real life. I do not live in my parents' basement, and I have a job as well as going to school. I was simply explaining the reason that people ACTUALLY don't like The Strokes. Because they suck. I'd also like to mention that disagreeing with someone is not being on their "fucking case". Anyway, I shall take the advice offered in your signature, and refrain from discussing anything further with you, as it warns of an impending downhill slide in the intellectual level of the conversation.

Strokes kiss major ass. just non stop high tempo music with all the thrills and rawness you need. Thought would agree although the do look the part and embody coolness after seening them live would have been nice if their set was longer. Maybe after the next album it would be. Rock on.

i wouldn't call the strokes indie

they don't kick ass really. i'd say it's more like a faint slap. not that i dislike them, they are just not overwhelmingly exciting.

"the" concretes are a good "the" band
as for ass kicking, i'd say autolux, dungen, or m83 are closer

If both of their CD's didn't sound exactly the same, maybe. I have the first disc, and it really takes listening to it about a dozen times to start differentiating the songs, and then the second CD is more of the same. They have a unique sound, but they need to broaden their songwriting a bit.

if you take offense, it means you've been offended. pretty basic statement, i know, but it carries a lot with it. so if i offended your musical tastes or beliefs or anything like that, then chances are i wouldn't be the first person to call you out. but here's the real kicker: i didn't call you out. if you want to get your panties in a bunch, fine. i'd just like to see a direct reference to any one user, just one. until you can find that, take it as a rant and don't turn it into some kind of tag team flaming fraught with false inquiries into my emotional state, cheap shot witticisms about my sig, and anything else that you can put on there to give the illusion that my post was a direct attack on all that you stand for. unless you wear a metal mask or have some kind of portal to an alternate dimension, i don't want you for my nemesis and i don't want you to try to portray me as yours. you are, of course, free to do so, but pretending to have a nemesis who doesn't bother remembering your name would be an excessively lame move on your behalf. with that, i will say what i have said before in the aforementioned rant: wah.

Not so much that people have called me out on it, just that it's a tired provokative way of speaking that I get really sick of hearing people say, or type, whether it's directed at me or someone else in the room/forum. Also could be that someone peed in my cornflakes that morning and I decided to go pick a fight. I wouldn't flatter myself thinking someone considered me to be their nemesis after one teeny little flamy post if I were in your position.
