Living Colour - The Band
Along with the other CD's I picked up today (Static-X, Sevendust, Ludacris, Primus, Boards of Canada, DJ IRene) I grabbed the NEW Living Colour album "Collideoscope". I've only listened to it once so far, but I like it.
Did anyone else happen to pick this up. Or are there any fans of the band around? They were one of my favorite bands throughout junior high and high school and I've been waiting for this new one since I heard they had re-united. A number of my freinds kind of liked them before, but could really care less now. Just wondering If I'm the only one that still cares about them musically? |

Vernon Reid, the guitarist, is an amazing player. If you get a chance to read or watch any interviews with him, do so. He's also a very articulate and smart guy. If they are together and he is still with them expect something cool, probably not popular but cool.

I saw Living Colour open for the Rolling Stones (Steel Wheels) a looong time ago. In my opinion, they tore the Stones a new one. From what I understand, they broke up for a long time, and only recently got back together.

I'd have to agree that Vernon Reid is a fantastic guitar style. I've got his solo album and there is some crazy shit on it.
But, yes, all of the original members are back together for the frist time since 1995 when they put out their last studio album. (Though bassist Wimbish and Corey Glover worked together on a D&B side project called Headfake). |

Living Colour is one of my all time favorite bands. It's so awesome to know that there are people out there who dig them too!!
They are all bad motherfuckers in their own right. I've see both Corey Glover and Vernon Reid perform as soloists and I got to see Living Colour in St. Louis back in the early 90's. They were all bad ass shows...especially the full band. Wil Calhoun was playing so hard that he broke a fucking snare STAND...not a head...he broke the damn STAND. Aparently, that wasn't a rare occurance, since a roadie had another one waiting & he didn't drop a beat. I haven't gotten the new album yet though. Is Muzz Skillings playing bass, or is it Doug Wimbish? |

Shit! I forgot about Muzz Skillings. He's the original bass player wasn;t he?! Did he leave after Vivid or was it later. I thought Wimbish played on the Time's Up album. Um, or maybe not.
Okay, I guess it's not the orignal lineup, still, the new album sounds like vintage Living Colour. |

"cult of personality" rocks, and i really like the vernon reid's playing, but i wasn't able to get into "vivid" as a whole. i bought it 7-8 years ago and thought it had too strong an 80's vibe (for lack of a better description) in terms of production and songwriting for me to take seriously. what's their later stuff like? i know most consider "vivid" to be their peak, but is that simply because it was where thier commercial success was?

Use to love Living Colour in college. They tore shit up.
Tom Morello of Audioslave listed "Vivid" as one of his favorite albums in Spin Magazine. He said Living Colour paved the way for alot of other black, hard rock musicians in the 90's. I believe that. And, all respect to Vernon and his amazing guitar playing, but Wil Calhoun kicks so much ass it's nearly illegal. As a drummer, I give him many props. I'll have to check out the new album.
