Amorphis - Far From The Sun
This is Amorphis' newest album, and I'm honestly pretty disappointed with it. Maybe I was just hoping too much for them to release another album as unique as Tales from the Thousand Lakes or Elegy, but it seems like they're playing it *really* safe and following the same formula they used in Am Universum and Tuonela... But I liked Tuonela and Am Universum way more than the new album. None of the tracks seemed to stand out from one another, not one single song. It was a solid album but probably my least favorite Amorphis album thus far.
On a better note though, their re-release of Karelian Isthmus/Privilege of Evil is really good. |

Haven't heard too much except Am Universum....but I was under the impression that their earlier releases were fairly uninteresting because they stuck to a pretty traditional death metal idea, whilst A U and Tuonela were their more interesting releases?
Oh well, I'll probably check it out soon and cast my own opinions...and check out earlier stuff!

Ohhhh no... their earlier albums were excellent, even their very first one (Karelian Isthmus) which was almost a straight death metal album. Their second album (Tales From the Thousand Lakes) is still death metal, but you can start to hear their transformation into a more melodic, progressive band.
I guess it all depends on the kind of music you like. If you like death metal, you'll like Karelian Isthmus and Tales From The Thousand Lakes, and if you like their more melodic progressive sound, you'll like Elegy and everything after (even though elegy has a LOT of death metal influence in it, it was definitely their transitional album into the style of music they do now). |
