Modest Mouse

A friend of mine got me listening to Modest Mouse. Has anyone ever heard of them? Kind of soft rock. They're great.

My bro in law listens to them on the regular. I used to have a bunch a tracks by them he uploaded on my computer but the thing crashed a while back and we had to delete everything. It is good stuff though. Nice n mellow. Good instrumentalism as well.

Modest Mouse is great. I was really into their newest full length album, the moon and antarctica. just has a great compositional style to it. very reminiscent of radiohead. they truly love what they do. their shows are wonderful. got out of them lately but this thread makes me want to check out their new (newest rather :P) ep ... think its called everywhere and his nasty parlour tricks. heard its good stuff.

My friend just got their newest CD, and she really likes it. I'm thinking about getting a copy.

I'm in love with the first song, 3rd Planet.

They're one of my favorite bands. I missed them when they came to town, for which I will never forgive myself.

Anyone who's interested in the band, some introductory songs I'd suggest downloading are Dramamine, Cowboy Dan, 3rd Planet, Doing the Cockroach, Other People's Lives, and Polar Opposites.

I hear them on a pirate radio station here in town. God I miss that station. I learned so much about Indie rock from them.

You should give Modest Mouse a try.

They're one of my favorite bands, I have all of their studio albums. The Moon and Antarctica is one of my top 10 albums of all time. I'm seeing them this February, and I can't wait. I hear Isaac Brock screams into his guitar pickups as part of the set, that has to be awesome.

Oh, and Dramamine, off of This is a Long Drive for Someone with Nothing to Think About, is one of my favorite songs.

Just recently got into them. My bud gave me Lonesome Crowded West and THe Moon and Antarctica. LCW is one of the finest albums I heard in 2003.

I took the bate, dowloaded some songs: 3rd Planet, Lives, What People are Made Off, Life Like Weeds, etc.

I must admit the lyrical concepts are very good, but the delivery and composition are a bit sloppy. I guess that's their style, not my thing though.

Cheers.

Funny you'd mention those in particular, as Life Like Weeds and 3rd Planet are some of the least sloppy tracks in their collection.

Yes, they do tend to be sloppy at times but that is part of their whole style. They're definetly not for everyone. They're definetly not radio-friendly or probably even average-music-listener friendly. Though if you had to pick one song that would probably be most well-recieved by the general public I'd have to say either Dramamine or A Different City would do it.

I'm really worried now...

It says on their site "Good news for people who love bad news March 30"... if they're breaking up i'm going to be fucking crushed, they've got WAY too much untapped potential for that...

Luckily i have tickets to see them in february so even if that IS the case all will not be lost... it'll still suck ass though.

Madly in love with Modest Mouse AND Ugly Casanova. Anyone hear the story of why Ugly Casanova was formed? It's pretty nifty, although sort of difficult to believe.

It's weird to see Modest Mouse on Tv and crap, I've seen them 8 times, the first time back in either 96 or 97 w/ Built To Spill. For those looking to buy, I suggest the Interstate 8 EP. Tundra Desert, All Night Diner, Interstate 8, Sleepwalking. All excellent tunes. While they're good live, whoever said that they're dicks is quite right. They can just be assholes on stage.

I love Modest Mouse, it's a real shame that MTV and everyone is treating them as "up and coming" since people finally recognize one of their songs as a hit.

That happens to so many bands it isn't funny anymore.

And to the thread: I love the song that I'm constantly hearing so I plan on going to buy the album.

I'd like that if I were a long-time fan of them. Hell, I liked it when it apparently happened to Finger Eleven with "One Thing", and I HATE that song. More exposure = GUD.

Modest Mouse are a long time favorite of mine too. Their lyrics are amazing.

An interesting piece of information about them, their lead singer has a lisp and the phrase Modest Mouse was something he was asked to say in speech therapy class. Try saing Modest Mouse with a lisp. Modehtst Mouthse. hehe That's apparantly how they got their name.

Traveling swallowing drammamine.
Feeling spaced, breathing out listering.

I gained total respect for Isaac when he got the shit beat out of him and it caused him to speak with a lisp. He did not give up lead singing when many people said it couldn't be done(or shouldn't). Now he is reaping the rewards of not giving up and continuing to making great music.

I've heard stuff off of The Moon And Antarctica and own Good News For People Who Love Bad News. That CD is a goddamn masterpiece. The way it travels through moods to transport through the album. The View has fantastic bass, Bury Me With It is my favourite track along with Bukowski one of my favourite lyrical songs at the moment. The song The Devil's Workday takes a bit of getting used to but in the end it is deliciously evil.

Moral of the story by this album...twice.

I have a couple of CD's from Modest Mouse that I got when I was trying to go more "mainstream" (In case you are wondering, I'm not listening to cool indie punk or anything, I'm listening to horrible, horrible music, so horrible that noone else listens to it.) I like the first half of most of their songs, and then they start screaming or thrashing on their guitars and I just don't handle that well. They still sit in my playlist, but I only ever make it through the first half of most of their songs, I just can't handle the changeup.

I really like the first half though
