i dont think i have 1 favorite type of music. it ranges with the way i feel that day.
1. *OK CLASSIC ROCK. (zeppelin, pinkfloyd, doors, etc...)
2. electronic (techno, trance, drum&bace, dance, etc...)
3. and the usual pop top 40 style that i listen to when it plays on the radio.
*4. classical too. i think i just forgot to list it.

*edit: i fixed it for the older members who didnt like oldies. haha. i'm still in my 20s. so the 60s and 70s is very old for me.

My favorite type of music is the music I create.

Other than that it varies depending on my mood. I used to be into the whole goth/industrial scene (back in the early 90's). During that time I still enjoyed listening to everything.

In my collection you'll find classical, jazz, early punk, "real" country, singer song-writer, industrial, goth, techno, world pop, bluegrass, top 40 pop, rock, acid rock, classic rock, glam rock, emo, metal, prog and other stuff ... the list goes on and on.

My point is ... I don't really have a favorite style of music. The music needs to be good; which is very subjective. To me good music doesn't try too hard to be anything other than what it is.

Some people say good music is un-pretentious. However, glam, prog and other hyper-stylized music is overly pretentious in and of itself.

Heavy Metal (especially thrash metal) and some classic rock.

I can listen to some other types of music, but nothing else has the effect that heavy metal has with me.

Classic Rock (Aerosmith, Zeppelin, Floyd, Springsteen, etc)
Blues (Stevie Ray Vaughn, John Lee Hooker, Little Feat, Muddy Waters etc)
Jazz (billie holiday, Charlie parker, herbie hancock, etta james, john coltrane etc)
Heavy Metal (Pantera, black sabbath, black label society etc)
Early Punk Rock (The Ramones, the sex pistols, etc)
Classical (Gershwin, Mozart, Beethoven, etc)
Alternative (Alice in Chains, Nirvana etc)

Pretty much anything except for current rap, and 95 percent of all country.

experimental (it's a goofy catchall genre--improvisation, electro-acoustic, glitch, microsound, tape music, some synth work--like elaine radigue (who is so great, you have no idea...))
jazz, especially the variants that ken burns dislikes.
contemporary classical
some regular classical (no german orchestral music of the mid-late 19th century tho)
lots of african pop music and more "traditional" stuff
gnawa
persian classical music
early field recordings (for the surface noise)
dub
reggae, some dancehall
hip hop
noise
phonography
lots of other stuff i can't remember the official genre name for.

i do not understand the term "alternative"
black metal if i am in the mood and it is really really loud is ok
i kinda like slayer. it is a guilty pleasure.
most metal doesnt interest me.
i like older pop, but prefer things i havent already heard millions of times.
i can tolerate bluegrass in very small and controlled doses.
i cannot tolerate most country music at all.
i am ambivalent about opera, but not closed to it
not that interested in contemporary pop, but i like being surprised.
no boy bands.
i have tried and tried to like death in june, but it just isn't happening.
contemporary r&b makes me dream of driving a tack into my forehead.

House. All kinds of house. But my favourite is of the deep, soulful, vocal variety. Aya, Blue Six, Tortured Soul etc.

I've also grown to enjoy some light rock. I've always been a Coldplay fan and have since moved on to similar sounds. Pandora has played a huge role in exposing me to different musical styles and genres that I never thought I'd like, but do.

I like classical music in general, but the Baroque is my favourite period - Marais, Corelli, JS Bach, Vivaldi, Telemann and the one-hit-wonder Pachelbel!
I like it neat and crispy. Razor-sharp string quartets. Mmm.
Also, Wagner. Tristan und Isolde is like being blown to bits, but slowly and pleasantly.

And then there's a dash of metal, some country for when I'm feeling blue, the odd boyband, a bit of hip-hop and some random stuff. But mostly when I hum a tune it's classical or folk, and my shower singing is either traditional Swedish coral pieces, folk or the odd opera (I do a mean In diesen heil'gen Hallen).

And by 'mean' I mean mean to Mozart.

Jazz which I listen to, write, study and perform is my music of choice. My collection grows larger by the week... i need to get more shelving.

I am a big fan of the Blues by default. I like several Classical composers like Debussey, Bartok, Berlious, Brahmns, JS Bach and a few others.

I'm a sucker for 80's pop and RnB

I have a good collection of Cream, Pink Floyd, ACDC, Metalica and the greatest rock band ever, Led Zepplin

Well, this depends on the day and my mood...

First I usually listen to metal of various degress.
Second is punk, love it!
Next is alternative.
I listen to a lot of 80's also.
And, what we called progressive, back in the 80's.

I change the songs on my mp3 player almost every day, depending on what my mood is.

Interesting.
Perhaps, I think, it would've been fun to guess.
I mean let's take maleficent, for example. The Heavy Metal and the Alternative threw me a bit, but overall...I think that I had her pegged. Gilda...I would've thrown Jazz in on top of the Folk, but other than that...absolutely. Lady Sage...yeah, I would've picked '80s for her. Spectre...well, that kind of went without saying.

As for me...Jazz, mostly. A lot of Big Band. Artie Shaw, Benny Goodman, Andrews Sisters, etc. Question is....would anyone have guessed that?

I do like Jazz, but otherwise I am living the lesbian stereotype with my musical tastes.

Jazz would probably be third. My XM presets consist of the only Folk station, the acoustic station, showtunes, classic jazz, blues, classic country, and classical pop hits. I love my XM radio. It's easily one of the best things about living in the 21st century.

I wouldn't be able to tell you a single song in the current pop top 40 if my life depended on it. I have nothing against it, but it just isn't me.

Absolutely Metal is at the top, all types of it.
I find it a natural extension from my early love of Classical and Ancient music.
I grew up with Classic Rock and there's always a soft spot for the pop music from the 70s-90s in small doses.

Not at all. In fact, as I said, you did kind of throw me a little with the Alternative. I didn't expect that. What I will say is that you do have great taste in music. It's eclectic, and I like eclectic.

I mean..."showtunes" are kind of a stereotype for the "flaming" gay male...right? On the other hand, I don't know what a gay female is "supposed" to listen to. Other than, of course, the handy list that you provided. Who knew lesbians were into Hank Williams.

I dunno, it's just that you strike me as someone that's...definately avant garde, if not outright bohemian. The folk music, therefore, comes as no great surprise. I would've expected Jazz to be a little higher on your "playlist", though.
Oh well, shows what I know.

Mainly...
Classical (Rachmaninoff, Ravel, ect.)
Some Rock (Led Zepplin, ect.)
Brazillian Jazz
Whatever genre Coldplay fits in to
Some techno/trance
Anything by John Williams (except for track 17 in Episode 1); I'd say modern classical, but I really don't like alot of modern classical. That new-age stuff for instance. *shudders*

Well, not the whole list, but the lesbian stereotype is definitely folk and jazz. Even within the folk genre, there are certain artists who fit the stereotype, and they tend to be among my favorites.

I'm very bendy when it comes to music. I like and listen to all types of music. from rock to classical to house to r&b to jazz to everything. i do believe though that there is a time and place for different kinds of music. like on a sunday morning after church when i'm busy cooking, i like listening to westlife or the carpenters or the stylistics. in the mornings, i'll listen to whatever is playing in the taxi i'm riding in. and that sometimes goes to a whole other level. on the weekends, it's house all the way in healers car and the club we go to. but if someone held a gun to my head and forced me to choose, i'd definately choose music from way back in the day like frank "old blue eyes" sinatra and the ratpack, the stylistics, the carpenters...all coming from different times but i'f i had to choose, i'd say that's my ultimate fav.
