Self-taught guitar
I was wondering if there was anyone who could recommend a good book or other material that would be good to learn the guitar..... I am very busy and am willing to make some time for guitar but not enough time for a teacher. I took lessons on the acoustic and they helped but I would really want to get into something else (learning wise). So.... recommendations?

I learned through guitar tabs. Word of advice with those though, they're not particularly accurate so download a few different versions and combine them into what sounds right to you.

try www.wholenote.com
They've got online guitar lessons and a huge library of tabs. You can learn pretty much any style through them, and it's free. Pretty cool site. |

there are millions of 'paint by numbers' guitar for adults out there. Try these publishing companys
Hal Leonard Mel Bay They should have dozens of books. The best teachers are professionals. But if you have any friends who play I'm sure they can show you stuff.

me, too. i started downloading tab off of olga.net about 7 yrs ago. just look up artists whose songs you know well & work your way through the chord progressions. for me it was old who & stones songs that are hard wired in my brain. makes it alot easier to learn them, because you KNOW where all the changes are. as you progress, you'll find tabs that show you how to do the hammer-ons, pull-offs, & riffs that give songs more color. use the chord dictionaries for weird shit like G#m7-5, blah blah as spectre noted, there is a huge variation in quality of tabs out there, though. some are posted by people who apparently are playing on banjo or dulcimer or something, or are just plain wrong. others are so deep as to be indecipherable (see tool, yngwie (?)). if i hear a song on the radio i want to learn, i just do a google search for that band's tab. the search will give up about 10 sites to pick from, with a lot of redundancy, but i can usually find something close to what the song sound like. rock on!
