On a quick glance, I thought it looked like the mustang... I was wrong.

Neither have I, never liked Dodge and never will

Looks pretty nice, I can't wait to get one, my '95 Z28 is starting to show her years. It does look a lot like the new mustang, but that older style camaro and mustang had a lot of similarities.

One thing that does need to be changed is the back, it doesnt look like it has an aggresive stance like the 5th and 4th Gens do.

Ramega 10-07-2004 06:23 PM

That Charger is unfortunate. Looks too much like the Magnum/300.

I like the retro thing. The new GTO is a travesty of body design. It looks like an Integra humped a Grand Am. Muscle cars are supposed to look muscular; leave the spaceship look to the imports.

Jimellow 10-07-2004 07:02 PM

The drawings posted look really nice. Low and powerful, and I like the way the front looks a lot.

Regardless of whether the pics are legit or not, what do you think the retail of the base model of this new Camaro will be approximately?

Lockjaw 10-07-2004 07:43 PM

The V6 model?

Probably 21k or so. Camaros have always been just a LITTLE bit more expensive than their Mustang counterparts and the 05 V6 Mustang starts at just under 20k.

And Pain Train why the Mopar dislike? They've almost always had some of the baddest street machines around.

I agree that it looks like the magnum/300. It doesnt really appeal to me... but Im sure I am not a part of their target demographic anyways. (see my post on buying my first new car) :p

And yes, we all know the GTO is a flop. Seriously, what were they thinking with that?

I don't think the GTO was that bad..but I'm still hearing rumors that the Monte Carlo is going back to its old ways...GTO power train(350 or LS-1 with RWD) with a whole new body design.

Dull, shmull. We need more manufacturers to start bringing back new versions of their real cars. Nowadays a car IS just a car----they're all plastic boxes that aren't any fun. And the supply of old cars is going to run out eventually....so if people keep wanting to buy them, somebody is going to make new cars that resemble them. And IMHO, that's a good thing.

Scorps 10-10-2004 10:01 AM

If it sells why would they change

skyfire 10-10-2004 03:31 PM

Id very much like to see the return of a Monte RWD with that kind of powetrain. Im also very much lookin forward to the GTO's power bump theyre wanting to give it, 400hp+.

Imhotept 10-10-2004 03:56 PM

Camaro is no longer being made as of the end of 2004 production.

It sells because we no longer have an alternative to boring cookie cutter sedans and soulless commuters unless you want to buy a 40-50k Euro machine.

Daimler Chrsyler did some wonderful things with the 300 and the Magnum it made it so that you could get a cool looking car at a reasonable price.
Not everybody wants to drive a boring car but at the same time they don't want to drive something that's impractical. For the last 20 years it's like good looking, interesting and practical were mutually exclusive terms. I honestly get jealous when I look at the styling of the cars from the 50s and 60s and some from the early 70s. A 57 Chevy was a common commuter car back in the day but if you drove by in one of those today you'd turn heads because they actually look good nearly 50 years later...they are classics. Fast forward to 2050...do you think anybody will be clamoring to look at the old 2004 Camary or 2005 Accord? No because they are boring and heartless.

Hopefully in the next few years the car companies will start producing cars that fall back in line with those classic looking cars of the past and start making things that fit more the North American cultural and vehicular heritage.
Personally I'm tired of all the Japanese and Euro styling rip of domestics. A look that in my opinion doesn't look all that nice in it's original execuction much less an American bastardization of it.

ghdog 10-10-2004 06:32 PM

The new Charger is too much like the Magnum, and has got too much of this new Dodge design theme incorporated into it's design. Although a retro-ish Charger would follow in line with the new retro Cobra, Mustang, and possibly Camaro, this is just downright fugly. And that green is much too bright. I'm pretty sure the original Charger green was much more muted.

flooper 10-20-2004 06:27 PM

WOW....just like the original Camaro/Firebird.....lagging behind the newly redesigned 2005 Mustang. Who is sleeping at GM while Ford dominates this segment of the market??????

Lockjaw 10-20-2004 06:54 PM

As long as it comes back that's all that matters.

Bratwurst 10-23-2004 05:56 AM

why did the charger have four doors?

Seans4.2 10-23-2004 07:15 AM

They arent lagging behind at all. They still have the vette and of course the camaro will come back. I think it was just a marketing strategy. They tell everyone they are going to stop making camaros for good so everyone goes out and buys the last year of the camaro. A few years later its back again.

Lockjaw 10-23-2004 08:46 AM

For whatever the reason yes they are lagging behind. People buying Vettes aren't going to cross shop with a Mustang. And people that want to drive 2+2 V8 RWD pony car have the Mustang....and that's it. 5 years is a long long time in the car world to not have any product in a given niche if you are serious about that niche in the least.

superman4 10-23-2004 09:10 AM

That Camaro is da bomb!

superman4 11-21-2004 07:15 PM

I hope they follow through with this one

dmt767s 11-23-2004 10:48 AM

I'm a member on the site where that Camaro drawing originated. It was based on information from a very reliable source. Information has since dried up, and that Camaro which was almost a sure thing a few months ago is now up in the air.

TransAm-LT1 11-24-2004 11:54 PM

Im a fan of the idea when a car is retired let it be. We saw what they did to the GTO, no way to honor the judge with a rebadged Austrialian car, not that it's a bad car by any means, just that I dont think it deserves GTO name plate. You can tell by my user name im a big fan of the F-Bodys' I own a T/A and a Z/28, (lol and an STI) it made me sad to see the cars go away but I would hate to see them come back a some rebadged car.

I didn't like to see the GTO come back like that but the 05' looks badass, but I'm for the power not all for the looks.

And buy the look of both the drawings I have seen the car doesn't look like another rebadge, but remember Pontiac screwed the GTO up Chevorlet doesn't make those kinda mistakes!

twilightfoix 11-30-2004 09:30 AM

Ok, ugly ass charger, time to start writing to Dodge, gentlemen get out your pens and open your e-mail accounts, we're going to Dodge.

Ultimate_Gohan 11-30-2004 10:44 AM

Is the Camaro going to have a v8? I heard it was going to have either a super charged v6 or a tiny v8 with over-head cam like the mustang. And what about the Trans Am? I wouldn't mind seeing an updated Knight Rider.

fastom 11-30-2004 05:26 PM

I think GM would make the car look much more bland by the time it comes out. It'll probably be priced way up there too. Just look at the SSR and GTO.

You'd think the 4 door thing just assures they won't sell many Chargers to old musclecar enthusiasts if that was their target market.... but aren't those the buyers that want their SRT10's as a 4 door?

Your so right all the classics turn heads, thats why I drive a 82 in like 5 years it (might) turn heads :D

the only car GM has put out that looks a little old is the SSR and I think the front end looks nice but the back needs work!

queedo 12-03-2004 08:44 PM

man that car is cool looking!

krwlz 12-04-2004 03:30 PM

When and if (I peronally am confident that it will come around) that camaro comes out, I have only one fear. I'm sure chevy will power the thing like crazy, at leas the SS version, but I am hoping and praying... That they dont come back with those ugly ass tail lights!!

I personally have hated the Camaro/Firebird from the year '70 till the last generation. And I didnt really like the last gen either.

alarment13 12-04-2004 03:35 PM

i really like that concept camero, makes me wonder what a new firebird would look like (ive always liked firebirds more, I drive a 92 right now)
