I'd have to cast my vote for MotoGP motorcycle racing or almost any of the AMA races. If you all have never watched a MotoGP race I would highly recommend it. It's the most exciting racing I've ever seen. Think of F1 speeds, near F1 cornering speeds, and only leather to protect you, and you're still racing 6 inches from the next guy and 0 inches from the ground in the corners. The horsepower to weight ratio on those bikes is incredible. It's like racing a 1500 hp Porshe, but riding on top of it The Isle of Man is just crazy, I'd say it's too dangerous, but amazing to watch.

Damn straight silent_jay, two more died yesterday. I can here the senior race from my window right now... as Joey Dunlop once said, "like racing on a shoe lace".

I believe rallying, F1, and motorcycle racing are tougher than NASCAR.

nascars are shit
go fast, turn left, wow, its so fucking boring

if you want real touring car racing, aussie V8 supercars, they are the real shit, upwards of 300 kph (thats 190mile/hour) with racing on some tough circuits, including the gold coast indy circuit and the track I rate as one of the most challenging in the world, bathurst. unless you have seen this track in the flesh, you cant comment, it is so steep, fast and unforgiving. these guys race that track for 1000 kilometres, (thats 625 miles), which is an absolutely gruelling task. nascars go fast, and turn left. they are shit, there is no skill involved, its borinig, and they still manage to crash into each other.

the pinnacle would be a tie between world rally and formula 1. rally cause it is on changing circuits, blind corners, crazy shit etc. formula one because of the extreme speed and forces generated by it.

a modern formula one car can generate braking loads of up to 5g. thats 5 times the force of gravity for all you numbnuts who think g is a name for someone. f1 cars can get up to 360 kilometres per hour. thats well over 200 miles an hour. they can accelerate from 0-100mph and brake to 0 in less than 7 seconds. at full braking, they can generate enough force to suck tears out of the drivers eyes and onto the visors of their helmets. they race over 300 km and rarely go for more than a few seconds without having to brake or steer. hell of a lot more skill, fittness and endurance than some hick nascar driver, who can go fast, and turn left.

i hate oval racing, get on a real racetrack.

moto gp is pretty extreme, but the races are very short, not enough to really be called endurance races

I used to be prejudiced about NASCAR, but as I have done more research into motorsports in general I've changed my way of thinking a bit. Many NASCAR drivers come from other forms of open-wheel, formula type racing. They have the same skills as rally, f1, and other drivers. What really opened my eyes was a few years ago when I read in an auto mag (can't remember which one), that a few high profile NASCAR drivers had gone to a world rally championship (not WRC) and done really well. If you just scoff and say "pth, those guys just turn left, anyone can do that", you should really pay attention, because those guys are doing a lot of the same things as other professional race car drivers do (car control, racing line, close quarters jockying for position).

true, they are good drivers, but the sport is shit, and there are much more challenging and physically demanding ways to race

I absolutely hate nascar. Its boring to watch and boring to hear about. NASCAR drivers may be good at other things, but NASCAR is definately NOT the toughest racing sport. I'd think riding a dirtbike on the Baja 1000, or Rally would take it. I like how they excuse the 24 Hours of Le Mans, saying its in a 'different category'...

How does one become a "good driver" for nascar. I mean... all they do is drive in circles and every so often they pass someone... I have respect for the guys that get those cars in and out of the pits in insanely short amounts of time. But I mean cmon?

Wow, he gave up smoking to improve his chances of winning... 99.9% of REAL athletes, if they did smoke, wouldn't stand a rats ass of a chance in the sport they competed in.

Rally racing is by far the most impressive. And F1 comes right after that.
