Paint?

I searched, and though I'll bet I just didn't look hard enough, I didn't find anything on this. Are there any decent places to get a simple lick of paint put on your car? I don't feel like shelling out a couple thousand bucks, but I'd still like a professional job. I've heard good and bad things about places like Maaco, so I hesitate to go somewhere like that. Are there any good national or midwest (particularly Wisconsin) chains to go to? I just want to paint my 1987 volvo 740 gle from grey to a glossy black. Like I said, I'm not looking to pay a couple thousand bucks. Maybe I've just got my head in the clouds. Help?

Warning: Non-sugar coated truth ahead.

Figure on spending at least a grand, unless you do it with Krylon in your driveway.

Well, at least you're honest. No point in spending more than the car is worth for a lick of paint. Thanks.

He's right. There is no such thing as a cheap, decent paint job. Unless you're fucking the person doing the painting, and that's if you're a good lay.

Painting is hard. Hard labor, hard cash.

Yup. There is a lot of prep work involved, including rust removal, and the like. The painting itself isn't extremely difficult, in my opinion, it's the prep that takes the most patience, to get it right.

If you really wanted it painted find a friend that can paint and do all the pain in the ass work and then you can do it for cheap...but it's time consuming.

If you want it cheep, macco. If you want it to look good, a private body shop, hopefully someone you know or a friend knows. Always look at some of their previous clients.

You could always ask around and see what the shops would charge just to spray it. Like if you do all the prep work, and get it ready, what they would charge to just spray it. Otherwise, the cars not worth the money for a not-so-crappy paint job.
