1995 Saab 900 SE Turbo Convertible

Wow+wow!

I've just become the owner of a 1995 Saab 900 SE Turbo Convertible.
Needless to say(?), I feel very proud. (Even though a turbo charged engine of 185 bhp might not be "all that" for those of you who live in the U.S)

I was hoping that some of you had any experience with this car, and that you'd be willing to share some of these experiences with me.

So, how about that?

Looks like a general thumbs-up so far, but give it time and someone who knows something will come along.

Well, I bought it from my local Saab dealer, and they're going out of their way to fix everything that's not in mint condition. A partial repaint is just one of the things they'll do for me. At no extra charge of course.

Original parts are no problem. Hey, that was no problem with my 1987 Saab 900i either. I traded that one for a 1991 9000 CD just over a year ago, but I really wanted a convertible.

I DO love the turbo though!

Be very careful if you decide to 'mod' your Saab. It is so easy to create a shrieking money pit by improperly dicking with a boosted engine.

Personally, I think the Saab turbos are just fine stock. Enjoy!

I was thinking of chipping it, but that could get me in trouble with both the government and the insurance company.

It's still a fun ride without tampering with the engine!

I have driven one, but it was not a convertible, it was a turbo though. It was a fun car, lot's of torque steer, took me a while to figure out the shifter had to be in reverse to get the key out.

It's a nice car, a friend of mine got the '99 and it's great to drive. Saabs are nice cars, and you'll get a couple hundred thousand miles from them if you take good care of them. Don't worry about performance mods, they're good enough for fun driving, and if you wanted to race, it wouldn't be in a Saab.

break a window and you're in for one helluva ride

I do believe saab used to put all their wiring through the doors.

Yeah, you're right about the key.
The first time I tried one of these was when I was earning my living as an officer in northern Norway (70 degrees north!) in '95.
Mind you, this was around easter and biting cold without the top. I just had to deliver the car to the dealer with the key in the ignition, cause I couldn't get it out.
Now, this is my fourth Saab, and I've gotten used to it. Going from the 900i to the 9000CD was hard on my short time memory. I dropped the key between the seats too many times to count.

I liked the car very much back then, and I like it even more now that I've got one.

As for the wiring in the doors, that's correct too!
Apart from the loadspeakers, there's the button for opening the trunk, and then you've got heated mirrors and I'm sure there's even more stuff in there...

I don't have a desire to race, but Saab's got a rather respectable history in racing. You can read about it at http://www.saab.com.
