Had my NSX painted. Pics during/after

I don't post much here these days, but I hope some of y'all will enjoy this.

My poor old NSX has been looking kind of raggedy lately. Little stone chips all over the front end, some cracked clear-coat on the rear bumper, numerous little scratches on the spoiler and roof panel, remnants of long-ago bug spats on the rear view mirrors. It was time for paint. On July 20, I dropped my car off for fresh paint and on August 20 I brought it home. It looks terrific and I'm delighted to have it back! Here are some pics .

I went to visit it and take pictures every Saturday. Here is the first Saturday.

Second Saturday.

Third Saturday.

Forth Saturday.

And the last day.

This is my happy face, I'm getting my car back!

That night I took it for a little cruise out the the beach. Got to see a great sunset and managed to beat the rain coming home.

Sunset in the rear-view. Right where it ought to be.

Then of course on Friday it rained like hell while I was at work. Lost its rain cherry in less than a day. That's okay, it cleaned right up when I got home.

All of the Before/During/After pictures can be found here.

Repainting the NSX

Later!

damn... nice

did the paint have enough time to cure before the rain?

also if you don't mind me asking... how much does a proper paint job like this cost?

what were they doing with a welder in the front?

wanna let me borrow that car for a few days? Ill let you borrow my bike...

The rain didn't hurt it. The main thing is to get it wiped down, not let the water spots dry then bake in on the finish.

The cost out the door (which included a new windshield, 1 inner fender liner, and a bunch of fasteners and seals) was just under $8K. Even so, the guy who did the work said he'd never do it again for that price. It took about 1 1/2 weeks longer than he expected.

That's a battery charger. I'll have to get back with you on trading vehicles.

must be one of those bigger chargers capable of just about starting the car... but those are usually on rollers <shrug>

looks a lot like a 110v MIG welder

It took a whole month?

Did you had them paint it the same color it was before?

^^ Yup, one month on the dot. Same color as before. Changing colors would have been a whole other level of pain.

Sweet car and paintjob...don't see too many of those around (here) anymore. I once heard the NSX described as a "a Ferrari, but engineered by people who went to college." How many miles on the car?

Definitely true before Ferrari stepped up their game in the 90s. Some people credit Honda for forcing the Italian exotic makers to produce modern cars.

116K now. It had 56K when I bought it in 04/2005.

That thing is getting to be "senior" yet it still looks like a brand new model. Amazing body design for its time, and still today. I love it.
