I'm using this nivea roll on stuff, antiperspirant I believe. the blue bottle. Whenever I'm wearing normal loose clothes, or not wearing anything at all, it works wonderfully, and it smells ok. But whenever I wear clothes which are a bit tighter around the armpit area i get two problems.

First is the sweat spots under my arms. These aren't that huge a problem, but it would be nice if I could avoid them

Second, this is the bad one, it smells really god awful. When the sweat mixes with the deodorant in the armpits of the tight shirt, it just creates this god awful stink. Seriously, regular sweat smells better than this. I wash my armpits with soap every day, and I've even tried shaving them completely, but this did not take care of the problem. Is it my clothes? The deodorant?

Anyone had similar experiences? Tips?

If you're sweating at all whilst using this stuff, it's not a very good antiperspirant. Antiperspirant is meant to stop or reduce the amount of sweat you produce where you apply it. Secondly, if it is an antiperspirant, that does not necessarily mean it's a good deodorant too. Furthermore, wearing a tighter shirt (one that is possibly made of artificial fibers) will not allow your body to breathe, therefore increasing the amount of odor produced by your body (it gets trapped in the fabric). Beyond that, what are you washing this tight shirt with? The fact is that odors get trapped in fabric easily, and the wet heat of an armpit could possibly trigger previous odors already there.

My recommendation? Find a new product and wear clothing that fits, but isn't tight. Wearing natural fibers instead of artificial fibers also helps. As for a new product--make sure it is both deodorant AND antiperspirant. Some people recommend even going so far as to use two products separately (namely Kyan Douglas from Queer Eye) to get the maximum effect. This would possibly allow you to acquire a stronger antiperspirant than you would get with just a deodorant.

Use a 'dry' deoderant.

- Wash your underarms well.

- Make sure to dry off your armpits well after bath/shower.

- Try using mineral salts, they help kill the bacteria.

- I've been using Arrid Uncented anti-perspirant/deodorant spray. It works rather well. I use it in conjuncting with mineral salts.

- Trim/shave your underarm hair. They retain allot of bacteria.

- The only way you can protect your shirts from stains is to wash them as soon as possible.

I use the all natural rock deoderant- I think it's the mineral salt kind. I love it- it lasts forever! Oh, and if you have yellow stains on the armpits of your shirts- use white vinegar. Those stains are because of the stuff in the deodorant mixes with your sweat to form the crusties- doesn't happen with mineral salt deodorant!

I gave up deodorant/anti-perspirant when I shifted to cotton or all-natural shirts, as onesnowyowl suggests. There's just not the smell one develops with polyester or acrilyic cloth. Cotton or other natural fibers also wicks away moderate moisture better.

I switched to cotton and stopped buying deodorant. I only smell "manly" when I've really put in a hard day's physical labor. Cotton socks work well for foot odor and moisture, too.

if you have real exssesive sweat try a product like drysol
its costly and can be irritating but it does work well.

I stopped using deoderant/anti-perspirant in the early '90's, mainly cause I was living at sea in the tropics a lot, and my body adjusted to it. Now I don't smell at all, cause my body has adjusted to it. Apparently the same is true for washing your hair, but you have to stand it being greasy for about 8 months before the oil levels adjust.

Right Guard gel, fresh scent. Clear gel so no clothing stains. Anti-perspirant so no pit stains. Scented, I get asked by women what Im wearing all the time.

I know this thread is supposed to be about deodorants, but I have a question about antiperspirants. I sweat A LOT. Let me give an example. Today all I was wearing was a thin button down shirt, a fall jacket and my back pack outside in -4C weather (not including wind chill, but there wasn't much of that). All I did was sit in a bus and walk up some stairs to get into a mall. Anyway, as soon as I got inside, I realized, much to my horror, was that I had a sweat spot under my armpit (the right one is always more severe than the left)! Now here's the thing. My sweat spots don't smell at all, so I guess I got some good hygiene going maybe. But the problem is the sweatspots themselves. I was even using an antiperspirant (yes, it probably means it sucks) and I still got the sweat spot. Almost forgot to mention that I was using an old spice high endurance antiperspirant.

So long story short, can anyone recommend an anti perspirant? A really STRONG one.

Or something natural? Mineral salts or something that deal with sweat instead of smell?

You might have a condition called hyperhydrosis or hyperhidrosis. It's basically caused by the part of your brain that is supposed to shut off sweat glands at a certain temperature. These sweat glands don't get shut off, and you get excess sweating. Typically it occurs in the underarms, hands, and feet.

Try the other deodorants or antiperspirants, and if those don't work, you may look into seeing a doctor. There's a minor outpatient surgery to fix it, or you can have botox injections.

I use Vichy Vichy Dermo Tolerance Roll-On Anti-Perspiration Deodorant. I have had difficulty finding a really good one that's unscented and keeps me dry and this really does the trick. Nothing with scent as it mixes with bacteria there and causes even worse smells, and NEVER use any supermarket crappy deodorants.

Certain-dry is a very strong deadorant and uses a much higher concentration of aluminum chloride, the active ingrediant in most deodarants. The prescription stuff is DrySol, which is aluminum chrolide dissolved in alcohol (which vaporizes quickly to allow for fast drying).

One thng that a lot of people don't think about, and it really makes a difference, is to shave your armpit hair. No big deal, really, I've done it for years, and it does make a difference in bacteria production.

Deodorant wise, I have had good success with OBAO Oceanico antiperspirant.

But does this help in reduction of sweat? I don't have a problem with the odour. In fact, there really isn't an odour. But the sweatspots themselves are the problem.

Doesn't get any more basic than this, but Ban (roll-on or stick) works. Easy to find. If they sell deodrant they should stock ban.

I personally just use Degree for guys deoderant. Ever before the anti-perspirant carcinigen thing came out, I just could NOT see how stopping your body from sweating was a good thing.
