Holy crap. That might not be healthy. But, if you really want to, eat right and exercise. If you starve yourself, you'll get fatter, or die. Avoid foods high in calories. Burn off exercising more calories than you eat. You'll lose weight.

Eat healthy, limit your calories to a small amount. Do alot of cardio. I think you can do it if you really focus on these two things. When I say eat healthy, I mean no junkfood. If you were a regular person trying to lose weight then junkfood is fine in moderation. But since you have a deadline then try and limit it to a virtually nothing.

basically, paranoia, you need to find an estimation of your basal metabolism. do a google search for basal metabolism calculator, shouldn't be hard. try to eat somewhere around 500 calories less each day than the amount it estimates you burn. that'll be 3500 calories a week, or 1 lb., that you'll lose. add in exercise, and you could lose 2-3 lbs each week. and you'll reach your goal. edit: http://www.room42.com/nutrition/basal.shtml don't forget to keep track of how much you eat!

i'm no nutritionist, and this probably isn't healthy... so just take this as me telling you not to do this although it'll work.
if you're needing to lose ten pounds for the number alone (like a wrestler trying to make weight) it is so easy... i can do it in 2 days. here are some pointers that will guarantee you to do it in a month if the number of pounds (not neccesarily a dramatic appearance change) is what you want. first of all... do the common sense stuff: eat less (preferably radically low on carbs for a couple weeks) and exercise more. that will take care of 5 lbs in a month easy. when it comes time to weigh-in, just don't eat for a day and a half before and take it very easy on the water. between a good diet, exercise, then cutting excess food and water weight in the last 48 hours... you could lose 15-20 lbs in that time frame (assuming you weigh close to 200 or so lbs now). time in the sauna and sleeping with extra clothes on in a dry room helps you lose pounds, literally, over night. keep in mind, athletes sometimes do permanent damage to themselves with these tactics. i've lost 3 lbs in a hot shower to make weight before... 10lbs is nothing. but, as it has been said before... this isn't healthy. if you do it once to make a weight, don't go right back to your old habits. continue to eat well and exercise daily until you're at your ideal weight.

I am sure that willravel meant that it is not healthy to lose 10 lbs. in the first month of a new diet/excercise program. I have found for myself that the best way is to set a goal of losing weight over a long period of time. On a steady workout and dieting program it took me over 8 months to begin seeing definate fat loss. You have to realize it won't happen overnight. Try setting a goal of simply maintaining your excercise schedule and diet without exception. I would reccomend not looking at the scale; weight has very little meaning due to the fact that muscle weighs more than fat. Because of this, you could lose 30 lbs. of fat and gain 20 lbs. of muscle (which is alot) and only notice a difference of 10 lbs. However the results would be quite noticable. Another good way to notice the fruits of your labor would be to not look in the mirror for a while, and by how your clothing fits.
You do not have to follow this, but the following is my schedule for fat loss, and I must say that it has worked very well for me. Excercise Regiment: 1-3 hours of cardio.(This includes things such as swimming, running, practicing any sports you may be interested in, and for me martial arts) I do this on Sunday, Tuesday, Thursday, Saturday. On the days in between, I do a weight set which I found in a Men's Health Magazine. This weight set takes no more than an hour. Diet: I have a 6 small meal a day diet which specifically compliments my excercise regiment. I eat at 8:30 am, 11:00 am, 2:00 pm, 4:30 pm, at 5:30 I work out, 6:30 pm, and 8:30 pm. I hope this information helps you in your weight loss. |

paranoia - do you mind telling tfp why you need to lose 10lbs? is it just a general goal, or for some specific purpose?

ten pounds of fat in 1 month=impossible
you can only lose 2 pounds of fat per week, max, the rest you lose is water and muscle mass. Even at 2 pounds a week, that's pretty unhealthy. If you're just dropping pounds to clear weight for something, that's a little different. You could drop a couple pounds worth of water weight pretty easily, but that's unhealthy as well. Go hit the cardio, cut out sodium as much as you possibly can so you don't retain water, cut out sugar which will only add to fat, and take some advice from platypus, but realize that it is dangerous to drop this much weight in a month. If you make it, you will have burnt up some of your muscle mass, and will probably be well dehydrated. |
