Most loved/hated cities.
I got to thinking about this after having spent considerable time in the two cities I hate the most over the past three weeks. So I started wondering how others felt about various cities. What cities do you love to be in and which cities do you want to stay away from?
Here's my list: Most loved cities 1. Phoenix, AZ 2. Las Vegas, NV 3. Denver, CO Most hated cities 1. Boulder, CO 2. Albuquerque, NM 3. Flagstaff, AZ / Sante Fe, NM (tie) |
Most Loved:
1. Boston, Ma 2. Dallas, Tx 3. Orlando, Fl, Vancouver B.C. tie Most hated: 1.San Antonio, Tx 2. Los Angeles, Ca 3. Washington D.C. |
Most Loved:
1. Boulder, CO 2. Denver, CO 3. Fort Collins, CO Most Hated: 1. Boulder, CO 2. Loveland, CO (only because Loveland police are dishonest cockbites who pull the wrong people over and then give them tickets for speeds higher than the speed the person was going with court fees that are higher than the cost of the ticket...it's a long story) 3. Small towns in TX...I'd say all of TX, but you asked for cities, not states. |
hey mirevolver, eat it, boulder rulz =P kidding!
Most loved 1.Boulder, Co 2.Loveland,CO 3.Anywhere but here Most hated 1.Rocksprings, WY 2.Border towns in Utah 3.anythign without moutains... |
Most Loved (West Coast)
1. Seattle 2. Oakland (scruffier than SF, but 'way more interesting if you don't mind a little urban street action) 3. Santa Cruz Most UnLoved 1. Bakersfield, CA 2. Modesto, CA (makes Sacramento look good) 3. Redding. There. Is. NOTHING. To. Do. In. Redding. NOTHING! Most UnLoved International: Bangkok. Whatta pit. Rest of Thailand's fine, though. |
Loved:
1. Rome 2. San Diego 3. Tulsa, Oklahoma (i'm biased, but i really do love the place) Unloved: 1. Houston 2. Las Vegas 3. Los Angeles |
since i'm from canada, this might be a little biased and all
but here we go: loved: 1. Montreal (it's just such a beautiful city and such nice places) 2. Toronto (so much fun over there, heh, I live about 30 mins away) 3. Playa Del Carmen, Mexico (all inclusive resorts rock!) hated: 1. Victoria, B.C. (weather sucks and there's nothing to do out there) 2. ...damn I can't really think of any others....guess I haven't been many places I'd recommend montreal to anyone in the eastern/northern part of the states...it's a beautiful city with awesome skiing and many other fun things, and the drinking age is only 18! |
Love:
San Francisco Washington D.C. Chicago Don't Love Paducah KY - hate this town Orlando Amarillo |
Love:
Seattle San Francisco Charleston, SC Hate: LA Atlanta Miami |
Love:
Paopao, Society Islands New York, USA Seattle, USA Hate: Orlando, USA Tijuana, Mexico Los Angeles, USA |
LOVE:
San Jose, CA Monterey, CA Santa Cruz, CA DESPISE: Des Moines, IA Ames, IA Ankeny, IA (pretty much the entire state of IA) |
Love:
Traverse City, MI Jacksonville, FL Morehead City, NC Hate: Dayton, OH Huntsville, AL Detroit, MI |
Love- Atlanta, Georgia
Toronto (ummmm....) Hate- Atlantic City, New Jersey Trenton, New Jersey (for reasons that need not be detailed here) |
Love:
NYC Hate: Washington DC Baltimore, MD Cumberland, MD I lived near DC & Baltimore. Both are massively overrated and full of ghettos and liberals. I'll pass. I grew up in Cumberland. It sucks. It's full of retarded obese people who think fluoridated water is evil and causes about every disease known to man despite the fact that the rest of the civilized world uses it without incident. |
best...
Tokyo Sydney London worst... Los Angeles Fresno Brisbane ( and Canberra if there for more than a day) |
Favorite:
NYC, NY New Haven, CT Fairfield, CT (I live here, so do a lot of friends) Least Favorite Knoxville, TN (visited, stayed in UT dorms, cops called us in twice in one night, once because of guys driving aroudn with a shotgun mugging people, once because of a bunch of gang members with automatic weapons being pulled over right near the dorm we were in) Fairfield, CT (It's a love/hate thing, boring as hell, old white person town, roads suck) Cant' really think of a third. |
Favorite:
NYC San Diego Toronto Least Favorite: Atlantic City, NJ Boston, MA Montreal I'd put Newark, NJ there, but it's less a city than a hole filled with rubble and some cars. |
Favorite:
Moscow Sydney Amsterdam Least favorite: Canberra (bad for living, otherwise a great place in which to be raised or to die) Prague (poisoned by tourists) It's hard to think of any places I've actually been to that I don't have some good feelings for. Even had to think hard to put down Prague. As far as places I've only heard about, Fresno seems to pop up as a hellhole a lot more than one would expect for a city its size, and Tolyatti in Russia, where the second biggest activity after manufacturing cars is killing journalists who write to much about the first activity, doesn't really sing out much to me as a place I'd like to see. On another point looking at the other posts, it seems like few people have been out of North America. Is this right, or is it just because foreign cities don't show up on the extremes of hated/loved? Or don't Americans like to travel? |
Most Loved:
Switzerland Paris Belgrade Most Hated: Newark NJ Boston, MA London (some parts) |
Love
New York City Columbus, OH Park City, UT Hate Detroit, MI Toledo, OH Provo, UT |
Love (no order):
Singapore City Christchurch, NZ Wanaka, NZ Hate: Jogjakarta(sp), Indonesia - pollution... |
Love:
Baltimore (city advantages without city mentality) Vancouver, Canada (absolutely beautiful) San Francisco (may change - just so diff than what i'm used to) Hate: Washington D.C. Tampa, FL (all of FL for that matter, only thing going for it is the weather) Alexandria, VA (well, northern VA in general - where the hell do those people learn to drive??) |
My favourites...
Vancouver BC (I love mountains, hiking in summer and snowboarding in winter :)) San Francisco Seattle (With a Starbucks at every corner why not!?) Dislike... Toronto (People are too pushy for me there) Portland, OR |
Like:
San Diego Charleston Anywhere on Mount Desert Island *other* than Bar Harbor Hate: Charlotte, NC Charleston (damn tourists!) Any place full of suburban sprawl |

thank god for woodhead for mentioning one of the greatest cities on earth:
Best: 1. Amsterdam! (even if, like many people, you aren't a druggie or a pervert) 2. Rome (tourists don't have the best time, but living there is great... take a walk around the side streets near the Pantheon... get lost for hours 3. The Village in NYC (because its like amsterdam) And for any africa buffs: Lusaka is a great city, much better than Nairobi, but you have to enjoy living in Africa for what it is Worst: 1. most of NH 2. Boston, MA (obviously I'm not a big New England fan) 3. Addis Ababa (Ethiopia is just royally a bad place to live) |

Loved Cities:
Melbourne, Australia ('cause it's the farthest I've gotten, and it's got great beaches) Barcelona, Spain (Architecture...sitting outside drinking sangria looking at a house that looks like it was built out of bone ) San Diego, California (more beach! Warm, sunny, nice people) Brussels, Belguim (the chocolate, the beer, and the little peeing boy statue) New York City ('cause it really is that good) Buenos Aires, Argentina (even the hookers on the street do that two cheek kissing thing) Philadelphia, Pennsylvania (yea, the cheesesteak. But the people were all cool, and there's Yingling) Baltimore, Maryland (whichever genius re-did the whole Camden Yard thing, with the stadium & ballpark on the water is a GENUIS) Hated (ok, not hated, but least loved) Cities: Paris, France (not too bad, but really too overrated, southern belgium is better, and they speak french too.) Boston, Massachusetts (A city with THAT many cars and no decent roads, parking, or an understanding of the turn signal? C'mon!) New York City (cause it really is that bad) Tiajuanna, Mexico (Nothing more pathetic than some street hawker telling me how his 12 year old sister is stripping inside) Kennilworth, New Jersey (if you've ever been, you get the "petrochemical" joke from Miss Congeniality) Columbus, Ohio (I was there when OSU was out of school, but damn flat and boring.) |
Love--
New Orleans, LA Eugene, OR Savannah, GA Hated-- Memphis, TN Chicago, IL sigh-- There are so many places I want to travel to.It's ok though I'm still young.. |
