Most loved/hated cities.
 

I got to thinking about this after having spent considerable time in the two cities I hate the most over the past three weeks. So I started wondering how others felt about various cities. What cities do you love to be in and which cities do you want to stay away from?

I'd recommend montreal to anyone in the eastern/northern part of the states...it's a beautiful city with awesome skiing and many other fun things, and the drinking age is only 18!

It's full of retarded obese people who think fluoridated water is evil and causes about every disease known to man despite the fact that the rest of the civilized world uses it without incident.

It's hard to think of any places I've actually been to that I don't have some good feelings for. Even had to think hard to put down Prague. As far as places I've only heard about, Fresno seems to pop up as a hellhole a lot more than one would expect for a city its size, and Tolyatti in Russia, where the second biggest activity after manufacturing cars is killing journalists who write to much about the first activity, doesn't really sing out much to me as a place I'd like to see.

On another point looking at the other posts, it seems like few people have been out of North America. Is this right, or is it just because foreign cities don't show up on the extremes of hated/loved? Or don't Americans like to travel?

1. Amsterdam! (even if, like many people, you aren't a druggie or a pervert)

2. Rome (tourists don't have the best time, but living there is great... take a walk around the side streets near the Pantheon... get lost for hours

3. The Village in NYC (because its like amsterdam)

And for any africa buffs: Lusaka is a great city, much better than Nairobi, but you have to enjoy living in Africa for what it is

3. Addis Ababa (Ethiopia is just royally a bad place to live)

Yes. I love it becuase I can walk, bike, and bus everywhere, and only drive if I want to. I hate it because of all the hippie bums on Pearl Street asking for money and not leaving you the f#%k alone when you tell them you have no money. If they want money, they can get a f#%king job. I love it because of all the different cultures and acceptance of everyone no matter where you're from, and for the most part, what you believe (in the God sense, not in politics). I hate it because it's run by people soo liberal that they think it's okay to protest the college of engineering working with engineering firms to give students internships because the firms have national defense contracts with the United States government. I love it for some of the people I've met there. I hate it for some of the idiots I've met there. I love it because it's right next to the mountains, and Denver is just a short drive down highway 36. I hate it becuase the city blames the college students for all the rioting when most of the people that are actually rioting don't attend the university. So yes, Boulder, CO is #1 on both my most loved and most hated cities list, at the same time.

San Diego, California - just got back from a vacation there and we are in love. The weather was wonderful and the area, so clean. There was so much to do there too.
Tuscon, Arizona - very different, nice.
Warick, Roade Island - nice beach and we toured the mansions there which was cool.
Salem, Massachusetts - very fun area


HATED
Boston, Massachusetts - and that Massachusetts Turn Pike. As somebody here already mentioned, they don't believe in turn signals!
Toronto, Canada - Sorry, too busy, too many people, and not very clean in my opinion
Philadelphia, PA - very dirty, at least in the area I was in.

Like:
Cincinnati (well, okay, I grew up 30 minutes away, so I may be a little biased)
New Orleans (live music in every bar on Bourbon Street...I absolutely love that)
San Antonio (The Riverwalk and lots of men in uniform...rock on.)

Savannah (maybe it was just because I was poor when I visited...but everything seemed to be too damn expensive)
Warner-Robins (Georgia--actually, it wasn't that bad, but with the Air Force base, traffic was hell)

Why didnt you love Okayama?

I don't love Okayama because I moved here from Nagano, and I really miss all the mountains, rivers and nature there (cherry blossoms as far as the eye can see in the spring!). I guess it's really not Okayama's fault, I just happen to live here. I really love other cities in Japan though! Hope I didn't offend you! Do you live in Okayama?

Helsinki, Finland.. loved it there, spent about a week sight seeing. Had a great time there. Got the see the King of Sweden who was visiting at the time.

1. Pusan, South Korea - I lived there for three years and loved it. I really want to go back some day.
2. New Orleans, LA - Once you have fresh fish you'll never be able to eat frozen again. Great city.
3. El Paso, TX - I got intouch with a friend who still lives there. Apparently it has really been built up in the last few years. Pitty but I still have good memories of what it use to be like.

I can't believe everyone hates LA...you guys are crazy. It's not the best city in the world for tourists I admit, but come on, this is extreme. I could name 30 cities in California alone that are worse. I liked LA from the first time I ever came here, even more than San Francisco the first time, though if you gave me the option of where to live/visit now it would be SF. Partly because I realized how great SF is and partly because I've already been here and done that, not because I like LA less.
