Guys don't like going to Dr's
Ok i was going to post the majority of this in this thread, but i wasn't really talking about the problem.
In the summer of 2000-2001 i broke my foot whilst playing basktball. I did it during the frist half i believe, although played through the pain (mainly hopping around) and we ended up winning and i top scored, mainly "cherry picking" and open jumpshots which i didn't really jump for. Bragging over for now, but i knew my foot was fucked and that i hadn't done anything like this before to it, but i continued to walk on it a bit and be relativly active. About a week later, since it didn't improve i finally went to a dr and he found that the middle 2 bones had a giant crack in them and where almost broken through (probably because i was still active after intially cracking it). Anyway, basically i don't normally like to admit i am weak or ill so i refrain from going to the Dr to get anything checked out. I think a lot of guys are like this though. I m mainly talking about smaller issues here (broken bones, sprained ligaments, flu etc), that aren't life threatening or anything and will probably go away in time. So do any other guys share similar feelings about the dr issue? I think it must have a lot to do with the alpha male types, or maybe testosterone, but i don't like to think or admit that i am weak or ill in any capacity and am forever doing stuff that i really shouldn't ben when i am ill or injured. i don't really know what this topic is gonna achieve but hopefully anyone can discuss something of some relevance to it Also, any girls have anything to say? |

I haven't been to a doctor in over 6 years. Its not that I'm scared of going or don't want to admit I'm weak. The main reasons are finding the time and nothing of significance happening to me medically.
After the holidays I plan on scheduling a visit for a physical. I'm nearing 30 (27 in Jan.) and would like ot start making it a yearly thing. I had open heart surgery when I was a baby and need to take a more proactive approach to my health to help prevent any future unpleasantries.

I busted my kneecap while i was racing dirtbikes when i was 17. At the time i really didnt know that i had broke it. It took about a year to feel right. Now you can feel my kneecap and tell that it has been bracked in half horizontally. It never grew back quite right. All that being said, I still never have problems with it. And the doctor said it looks fine the way that it healed.

Although i find myself doing things i shouldn't. Namely and more recently if i have a cold or i sprained my ankle i will play sports and continue to excercise without much though of damaging myself further? albeit at a fraction of my usually capacity of doing things and in quite a bit of discomfort. mainly it's just that i hate being inactive? and am probably a little stupid |

Same here, the limb basically has to be handing by a thread of skin for me to go to the doctor. What's he gonna tell me? You have a sprained ankle/wrist/thumb. WOW! I could have figured that out.
Hell, it took my wife 15 years to convince me to see the Dr. about my depression. "Doctor? DOCTOR? I don't need no stinkin' doctor!" Even with the kids we don't rush them off. Split head? Well, okay, I don't sew so well and neither does the wife, so we'll take them for that. Colds and other such nagging illnesses are left to run their own course. No sense in over medicating them.

I never go to the doctor unless I'm actually frightened by something. Like I went because my left arm was going numb and tingly for about a week. Scared me. Also went when my girl showed symptoms of an STD. Scared me more.
Most of the time I'm a combination of three things. Too proud, too cheap, and too busy to go to a doctor. My old school father conditioned me to thing that "only babies cry" also... which doesn't help. |

I wont go to the doctor unless I feel like I am going to die. Not sure if its because my insurance sucks or because I am afraid of them. I do know that I absolutely hate going there and being surrounded by sick people and waiting an hour before you get to sit in the doctors room for another hour before he shows up. Ugh, just thinking about it now brings me the shivers.... my luck, i'm going to get sick now for posting this and have to go

Trust me on this, pride or any other bullshit isn't worth it. If something is wrong see the doctor. Not getting a doctor's opinion on what's wrong won't make the problem go away.

I'll admit...I have a tendency to take the "walk it off" route.
I'll leave things until they have been difficult for awhile. I have a high tolerance for pain. And I have a "do-it-yourself" attitude. This is just stuborness on my part. And I need to change my attitude. Does anyone have the name of a good doctor? |

Normally I don't bother with the doctor until something major happens. In the past 2 years I've had to go to the ER for a couple of dislocated shoulders, to get a hernia looked at, and to bring a friend to get stitches. Far too many visits for my liking, nothing sucks worse than a hospital waiting room.

YES i have noticed that with males. it annoys me.
because sometimes i am concerned for their health and well-being. not like i'm one to talk because i haven't been to the doctor in aaaaaages. and hate them. and probably wouldn't go either.

Another interesting thing is that guys like to show off their injuries. Especially to girls. It's either for sympathy or to show how strong they are, in order to tolerate such a bad injury. Theres then the reasoing that, therefore you should sleep with them cause they're so strong
it doesn't work though, well maybe not as drastic as that, but i guess that's proabbly the unconscious reasoning behind it. Also, some guys might get a kick out of grossing people out? eh? i don't know. |
