Replacement exercises for Squats

Hi everyone, I need some help. Last night was my leg workout and for some reason, my lower back decided to take the night off. I was unable to do squats or stiff-legged deadlift.

Other than Leg Extensions and Leg Curls, are there any other exercises I can to do replicate squats? I was really pissed off I couldn't do squats last night. Any ideas would be helpful. Thanks.

Edit: I work out at home, so I don't have access to machines.

leg presses are the only things i can think of that will target your quads besides the extentions off the top of my head.

Actually, leg extensions and leg curls do not replicate squats at all. Look at lunges, both forwards and backwards lunges, and dumbell squats to take the pressure off your back. Also, review your form with your squats. You may have gotten sloppy. And if your hamstrings and calves are too tight, it can stop you from doing squats correctly. For a real challenge, if you have access to a Bosu ball, try doing dumbell squats on that with the platform side up and test your balance.

Dumbell squats! How could I forget! I'm very strict with my form, so I'm confident it wasn't that. I'm thinking it was a new pair of shoes I was wearing. The support must have been different. Yesterday, the day after my leg workout, no pain in the back. I'll try stretching more too. I do stretch but I bet I'm half-assing it. I wish I had access to a leg press machine. Thanks again for the suggestions.

Stride jumps. Think lunges with attitude. It's a little stressful on the knees (ala running) but basically you start out in a lunge position and jump into the air alternating front and back legs. you return to the stride position catching yourself before you push your knee onto the floor.

Oh man, those stride jumps would just wreak havoc on my knees.

They also make going down a flight of stairs a bitch. Do three sets of 25 (or whatever you can) as a four count exercise and you learn real quick how much they work your legs.
