Politeness Breeds Happiness
This morning I was driving to work when a slow moving piece of construction equipment blocked my path. I was the first car to stop--the guy in front of me squeezed past. It literally took it about 3 minutes to cross the street. There were two burley construction workers blocking traffic while this was going on. Once I was able to move forward, there was a block-long line of traffic behind me. Not one car honked.
When the worker finally waved me past, he tipped his hard hat too me. The second guy bowed slightly and mouthed "Thank you." In my mirror I saw them continue to thank the cars behind me as they passed. A small pleasant encounter that is more often than not a non-event or a negative event was turned into a very pleasant part of my day by just some patience on the part of a line of people, and an acknowledgement of that patience by those needing it. Anyone else have a similar story to share? |

Little courtesys can certainly brighten your day. I got a flat - and law of sod, the car was piled up with stuff. As I was digging through it, a motorway maintainence truck stopped, and the gentlemen got out, insisted on changing it for me, and guided me back into traffic using their flashing lights to help me pull out and into my lane.
I always give people a big smile and a thankyou if they let me out, hold a lift or whatever. |
