Jock itch, also called tinea cruris, is a fungal infection. The area is moist and warm- conditions that fungi love. First get a good antifungal creme like lotrimin and apply three times a day. Next, to avoid recurrance, try to keep the area as dry as possible. You may want to try some absorbant powder or cornstarch. Always dry thoroughly after showering, then apply the powder. Incidentally, take a good look at your feet. Some people with chronic athletes foot(tinea pedis) spread the fungus to the groin area when they pull on their shorts.

It's classic the gonadman had an answer for your question. Funny stuff.
Lamisil is the stuff my doc prescribed. It is available over the counter. Also, she suggested everything gonadman mentioned but also that I it would help if I switched to boxers. Took about two days for the Lamisil to make a difference and about a week for a signs to dissappear. I used it as directed by my doctor for two weeks total. Also, I had had athlete's foot before that. If it happened again I'd just do the same. If it didn't go away in about a week I'd definetaly get it checked out though. |

I had a heinous case a year back. Powders didn't work for me - i didn't get around to trying creams. What did end it was pouring vinegar over the affected area and everything around it 3 times a day. Burned like mad, as it basically melted off the skin anywhere the fungus had even started to compromise it. Stayed nudist for that time to keep the area dry. A week later, I was itch free and healing.

Vineagar! good lord, why don't you just light your pubes on fire while you're at it! I would suggest Cruex which is speciffically designed for your problem and comes in a spray can. Also as previously mentioned the Gold Bond is actually effective for prevention.

Another suggestion that has worked for hubby to control the foot fungus is taking a daily pill of Acidophilous. He hates yogurt but if you'd rather not mess with a pill eat plenty of yogurt. This doesn't works so well to completely get rid of it but helps prevent it spreading and/or coming back once you've treated it. The Acidophilous is a beneficial bacteria and helps by "eating" up all the "food" that fungus thrives on. Also go easy on the sugar. Fungus tends to thrive on Sugar. That's why diabetics have trouble more often. It's because they have extra sugars in their body more.
