Jock itch, also called tinea cruris, is a fungal infection. The area is moist and warm- conditions that fungi love. First get a good antifungal creme like lotrimin and apply three times a day. Next, to avoid recurrance, try to keep the area as dry as possible. You may want to try some absorbant powder or cornstarch. Always dry thoroughly after showering, then apply the powder. Incidentally, take a good look at your feet. Some people with chronic athletes foot(tinea pedis) spread the fungus to the groin area when they pull on their shorts.
