Found a HUGE typo!!! Need advice on buying a $150.00 item marked as $0.00
Hey there...I can't tell you the place I am getting this item at cause ppl will get it before I do...I found a WAO Cranium robot that retails at $150...at least the price ranges around that...I found a website that has marked it as $0.00...I was wondering...is a typo on an internet store the same as a typo in a real-world store???
In a real world store if you see an item advertised at a lower price than intended then legally you can buy it at that lower price or else you could acuse them of false advertising or something like that...but what about internet stores??? Should I get a bunch of these??? (Thinking about eBay) Should I just buy 1 or 2 or maybe 4 (I have 4 in the cart so far...How many do you think they'll be willing to cough up at the free price??? This is not a scam website...these ppl have phone # and address and they've been around since 1942 I am getting $9.65 worth of stuff from them...what do you think I should do??? Legally could I get a whole bunch and make them gimme them for free or are they protected somehow from their own mistakes??? THANX C'YA ?:-D |

If you wanted to scam them, I would try to buy one with some other shit and try to pass it off. Then maybe you'd have an easier time getting your money back if they decided that they're not going to let you have it for free. But my final suggestion would be to point it out and not rip them off at all. Last edited by butthead; 07-10-2003 at 04:11 PM.. |

I seem to remember a similar case a few months back, where an online retailer was forced to cough up a bunch of cheap computers.
However, I am also aware that if a real store makes such a typo, they are only obliged to sell you one item at the incorrect price. So...are you willing to take it to court to get one robot?

Isn't there usually a disclaimer saying that information might not be totally accurate [and they can change it at any time without prior notice] and that it doesn't give you any rights?

you might want to keep in mind the fact that there is no such thing as a free lunch, or...what goes around, comes around...

Unlikely you can force the issue, as most people are savy to this and put disclaimers.
I also remember the computer case and as I recall they didn't have to sell the systems cheap because the deal is made at the time of shipping, not when you place your order.

not likely you'll get it for free. i thought the same a while ago when a pc store fucked up its pricing on a product ($0.00).
needless to say, they refused to ship at that price, and got off on a disclaimer they had on their site. |

had an experience like this when amazon had a bug in their system.
You could buy a board game, get another for free. With that one you got for free, you could ... get another one free ... and so on and then you could remove the origional game. My friend received so many games that the dean of housing (at the college) had to talk to him because it took 4 golf carts to truck the stuff into the post office. He then returned them, minus receipt to toys r us (who sold them through amazon to him) and bought a playstation, some games, and a farkload of other stuff. So yes, they have to honor it, but amazon fixed their bug within 4 hours of them placing their order.... |

You won't get it for free.
Basically, unless they put the price up incorrectly with the purposeful intent to mislead customers, they should be protected against this. A price of $0 is pretty obviously a genuine error and not done with the intent to trick people. |

I think you should devote as much time to being an honest and respectable person as you do to taking advantage of other peoples mistakes. You may find that you get more out of life than before! As Uncle Phil said - "What goes around comes around"! Just my opinion though!
