Sis-In-Law in need of help
Hello all.
My sister-in-law is going through a very difficult time and is really in need of some help. She has no insurance because she is currently out of work. She's going through severe depression and was on medication at one time but without insurance that was one of the first things to go. She has teenage daughters who are going through the normal rebellious stage which hasn't made things any easier. Throw in the fact that she's just gone through a divorce ... well, to say I'm concerned is an understatement. I would like to get her help but I have no experience in dealing with a situation like this. She needs to get back on her medication and she needs to see a counselor but I just don't know how that works for somebody with extremely limited funds. I worry about her safety as well as for the girls. This has all the tell-tale signs of somebody in dire need of help who ends up on the news ... so I want to help. I would love to get some feedback or suggestions. |

Contact a local or national organization that deals with mental health issues. They might have programs for those in need, whether this is counselling or possibly drug coverage. I don't know. Look into it.
Other than that, she needs to do whatever she can to deal with her depression naturally. One of the key things is to get exercise, which is of immediate benefit. A number of studies have shown that vigorous exercise helps improve symptoms of depression of all degrees. At least 3 days/week of aerobic exercise (around 75% of max heart rate) for 30 minutes each is usually recommended. Other than that, I hope there is an organization that can help. ---------- Post added at 10:56 AM ---------- Previous post was at 10:48 AM ---------- Try these two links: SAMHSA - Mental Health Information Center NIMH - National Institute of Mental Health - How to Find Help

Check to see if there are any clinics in her area that operate on a sliding payscale. I was able to find one for my friend where, after reviewing her finances, they charged her about $5/month and asked her to attend group counseling sessions along with regular 1 on 1 mental health check-ups in order to get the depression medications she needed. These kinds of "family care clinics" do not exist everywhere, but it's worth looking into.
