Ever have someone save your life?
Yeah, I was about 10 and swimming in Israel... it was Tel Aviv I think. I was swept out to sea after jumping waves and nearly drowned. This guy spotted my mom waving her arms and screaming, and came out on his surfboard to save me.

Once when I was 5 or 6 I almost drowned. My dad's best friend saved me.
A couple of years later I fell into a snow drift that buried me up to my armpits. I couldn't get out. My dad came and found me after about 45 minutes. That was scarier than almost drowning. My feet were numb and it was horribly painful to walk home--that's what I recall most. Oh and the woman who is now my wife saved me from a horrible relationship about 15 years ago; that made almost drowning and freezing to death look like a cakewalk. |

My dad saved me from drowning when I was about two years old. Of course, the almost drowning was his fault as well. We were in a canoe, and didn't have life jackets, and when I leaned over the edge, he stood up to stop me and tipped the canoe over.

I can only go by what I've been told. When I was a wee tot, on two separate occasions at my parents lakeside cottage my dad spotted me floating face down in the lake, motionless. He kindly fished me out each time. Thanks, Dad. I have never liked swimming in that lake, nor have I ever liked the sight of water weeds. Damn things give me the willies. I never even heard about these occurrences until I was up there as a parent with small children myself. Wonder if there is a connection between my distaste and those buried near-drownings?

Not sure if it counts. Once, way back when I was still in primary school, some kids in the class were passing around Fool's Gold. It was a pretty hefty sample, about the size of a brick. Anyways, one kid decided to throw it at me when I wasn't looking. I turned around and all I saw was a boulder coming at my head.
Luckily someone behind me reached around and caught it before it disfigured me for life. Thanks, Kerwin.

When I was 11 or 12 I almost drowned on a field trip after a taller "friend" gave me a piggy back ride out into water that was over my head and left me there. I started drowning and blacked out. Next thing, I knew some guy I've never seen before was carrying me back to shore.

My gyno performed surgery on my cervix, taking out high grade precancerous cells that could have caused me cervical cancer if they hadn't been found til later. He said had I'd been 40 yrs old, he would have taken out my uterus. He saved my life and my possible future children.

I have saved many lives myself...I've been a lifeguard for 4 years.
Probably rescued around 35 kids from the water. My contribution to humanity. I noticed many of you have almost drowned as children...in about 20 years those kids will probably be writing about me. |

I've got to give credit where credit is due. I never felt life-threatened while in Fallujah thanks to the Marines. Cell phones, whistles and various Colorado Search & Rescue crews have credit for saving a few friends of mine from hypothermia, and I hope I never have to use their services myself.

Yeah, not too original, but yeah two MDs saved my life when I thought I had an appendicitis. It was something else, but they took the appendix out anyway.
There are more principal life-savers in my life, but those are debatable. I would say that when I was the most depressed, someone would be there at just the right time to carry me through. I guess that's like saving a life. |

We were white water rafting, he and I were the frontmen in the raft. After a rapid, we were coming on fast to a rock, where the guide yelled, "[paddle]BACK, BACK!" I leaned out, paddled as fast as I could, and went overboard when the raft hit the rock. One leg was stuck on the boat which made it hard for me to come up for air. This friend jumped over, grabbed my vest and pulled me up. Quite an experience =].

My sister, in essence. I had cancer with no signs or symptoms. On a whim she forced me to go have an ultrasound done. Had I not gone, I was told it would have metastasized throughout my lymphatic system to a point of inoperability without any signs of detection. In all likelihood, I would have been dead by 30.
