Knee pain... abnormal growth? anyone else have this
About 2 weeks ago I sorta walked into my computer, the bone right below my kneecap was hit and my knee just hurt but it seemed fine. Keep in mind I have no idea if this hit contributes to the injury I will state later.
Now, i play basketball about 3 days in a row, and each day that spot where it was hit gets sore then starts to hurt. I rested it a few a days and it felt the same. Now when I play, I can play like 2 games max then it hurts to walk. I am wondering if anyone else has this problem and how long it takes to heal. The bone seems to be a bump 3 times larger than the bump on my other knee. The bone/bump feels solid and is not on my knee, but under it, like 2-3 inches below my knee. It is tender to the touch and hurts to bend. Jumping/running/ and sideways mobility is also limited due to pain. Resting does not seem to lessen the pain much. If anyone can help or give some info as to what the injury is, it will be greatly appreciated. |

There are a lot of possibilities, but I'd guess that you either have a deep bruise of the muscle or the bone depending how hard you hit and exactly where. There are lots of nerves running around the top of the shin and could also have irritated one of those, although that wouldn't explain the swelling. IIE, my friend - ice, ibuprofin and elevation. That should take care take care of any swelling and get the blood flowing in that area.
If it's not better after a week or so of that kind of treatment, I'd see a doctor, but it's probably a bruise. |

Ice is really only good for the swelling, use it after playing if it continues to swell, other than that heat on and off for 20 min periods will help up bloodflow to the area and help it heal. Ibuprofen or Aleeve should help, and elevation will help with any swelling that occurs too.
As for resting it, I think you'll need more than a few days, esp if you banged it hard enough to cause significant swelling. Give it at least a week. If you're not at least seeing improvement in 2 weeks or so I'd go to the Doc then, and it never hurts to go now just to get it looked at.

I agree. Also, it sounds like you may has speeded up an already developing case of "jumper's knee." If so, it wil take a whie to heel. YOu may need a strap for that , similar to what people wear around ther forearm to deal with arm tendon pain. There's a real name for this - I just can't think of it at the moment.

yea, thanks for the replys. I talked to some friends and most people seem to think its a serious bone bruise. And I already have jumpers knee on that same knee....haha Yea I think i'll start icing and heating it more though to try and speed up improvement. Just hate being so slow on the court when I know I can do better haha.
