help got puppies!!
So my family took in 2 stray dogs a year ago. During this past year I have persuaded them many times to get rid of the dogs but it is a Vietnamese tradition/belief that dogs are lucky and you should not get rid of your luck.
Well as luck would have it, during this past year, my parents got divorced and my sister moved to my grandma's with my mom. /sarcasm So the dogs bumped uglies and now I have 5 puppie born on 4/22/04. Guess who gets to take care of all 7 dogs? Lucky me again. The question is this... how long before I started feeding the puppies? And what should I feed them? I'm not sure if the puppies are hurting the mother dog while feeeding because I dont see her laying with her puppies like she would the first 2 weeks. I don't want any of my "luck" to die. So anyone with experience please help me. I'll be sure to pass my "luck" on to you. |

If I remember right, you should start weaning them when they're around four to six weeks old, but it can't be just straight solid food. Mix it with water and sort of...crunch the food up so it's almost an oatmeal consistency.
The AKC has several articles on weaning, and there are lots of vet sites. Speaking of vets, make an appointment! The puppies have to get lots of vaccines & such, some as early as three weeks. Have fun! (have you noticed new puppies smell a little like garlic? weird...)
