Pirate Radio Station
There is a pirate station close by that bleeds on a station I really enjoy. The FCC is more for monitoring legitimate stations than police rogue pirate stations. I would like to know how to make a directional antenna so I can locate this pirate station and give them the attention they need.

found that... doesnt really sound like what your looking for... might just drive around town and see where the pirate station covers the other one most completely... and mark it on a map... then drive around town more... find another point that has the same reception as the first... and repeat over and over... then the point in the middle of the other points should be close to the broadcast area... assuming everythings flat and there arnt geographic features that would interfere with reception...

Call the FCC, give them the freq of the pirate station and its approximate location. They'll do the rest. Also call the radio station that is being interfered with - they'll be PISSED that they're losing listeners to the pirate station and will lean on the FCC to take care of it.

cJoe, please be nice. I used to have I used to listen to pirate radio and I learned so much from that station.
The pirates that I knew, would never want to cause harm to other signals. Listen to the station for contact info. Let them know, and I'm sure they will be glad to fix things. If you cann't contact them, try postering the area. A pirate radio signal isn't very big. The place will not have a huge tower. It will have an obvious antena though. Me no gusta la FCC. Be nice to the pirates. Good luck, amigo. |

Pirate radio stations are taking money from the real radio stations. The people around c.Joe's house can't get the legitimate station either, which means they're losing market share, which means they're losing advertising dollars. AND they're paying for the FCC license.
There's no excuse for pirate radio. If you have a message you want to get out there, go to school, learn the business, and get a show. Hell you can even do a show down at your community access cable station if you want, and you'll probably reach more people than you will with the piece of crap transmitter you managed to pull out of the junkyard. Or get a net radio show - there are lots of "stations" looking for talent, and some of them will take just about anyone. Point is, you can get your message out without interfering with legitimate stations. Try it, you might like it. |

The Radio station that is being interferred with knows about the issue. They say the FCC will not intervene since the legit station is 50 miles north of here and the signal is only suppose to broadcast to the county line, even though I receive it further south of where the signal is interfered with.
I agree that I have heard a pirate radio station that was actually good. Not the same playlist all the time, but this pirate station has to go!
