How to dye croc-like shoes?

My in-laws gave me a pair of Nothinz shoes (like crocs - lightweight plasticky shoes) for Christmas, and they're pale lemon yellow. I've tried exchanging them, but very few places carry size 5 and those that do don't stock lemon yellow and therefore won't accept these in trade. Any ideas for what might work to dye them a different color? They say their "closed cell molecular structure" won't absorb dirt, sweat, odor, etc., so I wonder if it'll absorb dye? I'd love for them to be black or purple or even apple green....anything but pastel yellow. Ideas? Shoe polish? Varnish? Sharpie?

You won't really be able to dye them- it sounds from your description that the shoes were created through a molding process and the yellow you see is the colour of the plastic itself. Your best bet would be to basically "paint" overtop of your shoes- but you will need to find a paint that will both bond to plastic and be flexible enough to withstand the wear and tear of walking.

Although i don't know the solution to your problem, i hope this helps ya on your way to finding one.

Sorry to tell you - this is not going to happen. Nope. Never in a million years. Skier is correct.

If you try to paint them, the paint will come off - some immediately, some over time.

Dye/stain them, and most, if not all of the color will come off. What remains will look like poop.

The only thing you can do is hide them under fabric or stuff them into oversized Dutch wooden shoes.

You've got yellow shoes, my friend. If you don't want anybody to notice while you are wearing them, then I suggest you go topless. Just a thought. I'm an idea-man.

If flexable upholstery paint won't stick I think I would file 13 them. (unless you do need some house shoes)
