Sometimes I'll get pissed when I'm losing a game, but the guy in this video really takes gaming too seriously (looks like Halo, or something like that) - makes me laugh.

Hmm, he did say "triple kill" at one point. This is purely assuming that it was he who got the triple kill, as opposed to some other player. With all the "FUCK FUCK FUCK OMGWTFFUCKINGQ" afterwards, it is entirely possible that another player got it.

This is exactly what DotA would sound/look like if a large portion of the community had mics/cameras.

ahh that was funny. i play alot of fps pc games and theres always people like that. but on the plus side at least people this disturbed are inside and away from the public. just think what would happen if he was driving and someone cut him off. that guys road rage waiting to happen. i never did understand why people got so excited over a game. someone should tell these people that the best players are normaly the most relaxed. If that guy dosnt learn to relax hes going to have a heart attack or a brain hemerage or something before hes 20. that or maybe someone will start loading him down with ridilin

Actually, people might not want to acknowledge the connection between gaming and violence, but on the basis of that video, I reckon you could make an argument that gaming can turn you into an anti-social screaming retard. Then again, watching sports can do the same.

I got to say, I'm quite a bit like that. I get ultra-hyper-competitive, and nothing really pisses me off more than losing. In my gaming career, I've gone through around 3 atari controllers, 7 genesis controllers (and that's with me repairing some [thank you Mr. Wizard]), 2 Genesis systems, one turbographix 16, 1 NES, 4 PS1 controllers, 2 PS1 systems, and a dreamcast controller. I'm sure that my Xbox would've met the same fate before I sold it, but I was afraid I might pull a muscle if I tried to throw that controller. I've calmed down some, but I will still leave my friend's house if I lose a game too bad (usually trailing a cloud of swear words, insults, and "the game cheated" comments). As a matter of fact, about the only time I use swear words whatsoever is in competitive situations (video games, board games, card games, sports, gambling, whatever). And when driving, but I treat driving as a competitive activity.

Yeah, I'm like a toned down version of that guy. I'll flip off the screen, I'll drop F-Bombs, I'll toss the controller... However, I don't do that as freely as this guy, and NEVER when I'm online on X-Box. If a game kicks my ass, I'm simply letting my anger out without pissing off anyone, if another player kicks my ass, it's because he/she is better than me and I accept that. I don't think my decibel level is like this guy's, though. He needs some morphine drip, STAT.

Heh, I've seen something frighteningly close to that. A friend of mine was off his meds while playing C&C and he acted in a very similar manner. He was playing single player thankfully. Had I not known he was off his meds I would have been seriously concerned.

Oh I get videogames. They're not just a guy thing. I've had every system since the Sega Genesis. I even like first person shooters, though not the deathmatch stuff. I've spent several hundred hours on Diablo 2.

What I don't understand is continuing to play when you've reached that point of frustration where you're constantly cursing at the game. Save the game, go do something else, and come back later, geez. When it isn't fun anymore, why do it?

Competitiveness. I play online FPS games, and everyone has those days where they couldn't hit the broad side of a barn with a barn-seeking missile fired from a stationary rocket launcher that was previously set up pointing directly at the centre of said barn. On those days, I may be in an irritable mood due to male PMS or whatever the cause, and yet I can't stop playing even though I'm not enjoying it (however, I don't go apeshit on my computer like that). Just gotta get the satisfaction of seriously whooping some ass before I can leave the game alone.

I wish there was better moderation (not unlike the moderatuion here on tfp) online, in order to weed out the antisocial violent people who play games like that. I know a dozen people like that who should simply not be able to play games. If you can't stop and cool down, then you should go read a book. The more they play the game, the more they get worked up, the more likely they are to take the hatred out of the den and into work or school. Besides, the best players online are completly calm. I've seen people like "Random" (considered by many to be among the best Star Craft players in history, inventor of the Reaver drop) play Star Craft on battlenet, and he is 100% calm when he plays, winning or losing.

D'Oh! I hadn't realized until I read this that he was playing online. All I saw was a kid playing a console. I know you can hood up to a network with those now, but didn't associate that with what I saw here.

Can the other players hear what he's saying somehow? If so, then that's even more messed up than I originally thought. It's jerks like that that are the reason I don't play multiplayer online games.

Is it because it's a videogame maybe? I mean, I've seen guys go nuts at a Scrabble tournament once or twice, but there seems to be something about videogames that invite this type of behavior more than say, chess or Risk.

Heh. Starcraft was one of the online games I tried playing multiplayer and hated, hated, hated it. I'd join a game and it would seem like all the other players would gang up on me and there'd be about a thousand low level troops attacking my base in a matter of minutes. That's off topic, though, as the main problem there is that I suck.

For PVP games, I think I'll stick with real life, and use video games for the solo stuff. They're a lot more fun that way because I can actually win sometimes.

Yea, if you look closely on the vid, he's got an earpiece type thing in, bit like a hands-free kit. It's not that easy to see, though. I know you can also get the headset things.

I'm not so sure if I agree with that completely.

I'd worry more about an adolecent whose agressive tendencies have no avenue for expression - Sociopathy is frequently a function of systematic repression of "destructive emotions" in adolecents. While it's unplesant to watch this spoiled kid ... I believe it'd be best to sublimate those impules into physical sport or other physical discipline. Realistically, I don't think this kid's going to easily warm up to the idea of starting ballet lessons or gymnastics - but I believe this guy is a prime candidate for a good martial arts school.

In my experience the "hyperactive", even violent, teens that become absorbed in martial arts (as opposed to the ones who attend 5 classes then quit) learn physical discipline and how to manage their personal impulses.

It shouldn't surprise you to know there are many kids like this around. Take comfort in knowing that 99% of them will outgrow it. Ones who never learn to deal with it are the ones who manifest schitzotypal tendencies.

But if he were my kid I'd take away the console for sure and send him out to do sports.

And I'd fight the temptation to smack him for being a spoiled brat ... or not.

In all probability, if you actually put him in a confrontational situation, he'd back down in a heartbeat. It's only because he has anonymity and distance on his side that he's behaving like such a meatstick. What age would you guys peg him at? He didn't seem that young to me... certainly old enough to know better.
