Enter the Matrix

I found an unclaimed amazon.com gift certificate that I had forgotten about, and with it I purchased: the War3 Expansion "The Frozen Throne", a cd, book, and Enter the Matrix. Has anyone played EtM or seen it in action? I have seen mixed reviews and it seems that some people absolutely love it and some think it is the worst game to come out in years.

I will have it in a week or so, and I will post my own review at that point.

The game had a very good story line to it, the game play was....rough around the edges and it would just bring my system to very low fps for no apparent reason. The Bullet time was fun to play around with, but again the game is very rough. In one particular mission...your driven around and you have to shoot the bad guys....well my driver, got stuck behind a damn wall, and didnt know how to get out, forcing me to start the level over...to which he got stuck somewhere else...annoying aspects like that. Overall though, very deep storyline that ties into the movie well.

Doh, that sucks. I'll keep my eyes peeled for a patch then to try to avoid some of that frustration.

Would it be considered bitching if I said that EtM is a lame console port (not the game itself - the way it's ported), the graphics on the PC suck a lot (awful clipping), you have to apply at least two patches to prevent it from crashing?

I'd say it's below average, however the story and the mansion level are the high points.

Funky Koval, Mr. Deflok was having some problems with the graphics too. He did something that he posted in this thread that helped

http://www.tfproject.org/tfp/showthr...&threadid=6593

and the only low part I had on this game was the driving levels, they can be hard and horrendous. That said, this isn't a driving game so i tried to take it with a grain of salt.

from what I have heard... I think I'll try it when the price goes way down... all I need is the story anyway, which I mostly already have. With college starting soon here I will have little time.

75% of gaming stores in northern America have stopped selling it because of the return rate on the game which was 75% also. The game is copping a lot of flack deservedly.

I'll admit that it did have it's moments here and there but it makes you wonder, with $30,000,000 USD and 3 years in the hands of Shiny/Atari they best they could come up with was this? Sad.

but most of that money went to royalties. go to the smoking gun and they have the exact documents about the licensing. that is why games from movies are never all that great as they have to pay so much to get the rights to use the characters and such.

There is no way that they are going to be able to make back all the money they wasted on the game. I think that it was more used as an advertising campaign for the movie. also the whole patching thing intrests me as i want to know if there were/are any problems still with the console versions? did any one actually play for the console. Did they just not care about the PC version and left it unfinished because they knew that they would be able to put out patches, or did they all suck and the PC version is the only one that they were able to fix?

I have the game but it looks like crap on my system because of my radeon 7500, graphics card is quite important as my amd 2500 oced to 2.2 couldn't make up for it.

Dark Forces, Jedi Knight, Jedi Knight 2, and Star Trek: Elite Force are all pretty good movie-related games. I can't think of any others, though. :P

The Spiderman console game from ... last summer (?) was rated pretty favorably, too, I think.

I've been hearing some rumblings (think I read an early review of the final game, too) about the soon-to-be-released Hulk game. It's not sounding too good either...

Damn... A 75% return rate? For Shiny's sake I hope those were trade-in returns. Otherwise Shiny really went into the red on making and releasing this game....

I played the Hulk demo and abdolutely love it, the reviews have been quite good to, nothing below 8/10 from what I've seen. But apparently the Bruce Banner missions are tedious in comparison to the Hulk's high octane action missions.

I played it through on the PS2... It isn't as bad as everyone says it is... It definitely has its fun moments... BUT remember.. your playing the missions that had to have happened in order for the movie to go like it did... so sometimes it can feel like your ... bored... but the action mixed with the fighting was pretty awesome... I played for hours figuring out the coolest ways to dispatch people...

Enter the Matrix had little storyline, and lots of crappy gameplay. Even a lot of the visuals were incomplete.

how can this be true? when most stores don't even allow returns of opened software?

but you're right tho, the game sucks big time.

EBGames has a 7 day right of return policy, if you don't like it/doesn't work/wrong version or whatever you can return it within 7 days for you money back or exchange it for another item from the store.

p.s. I work there

I just got it in the mail today (tks amazon.com) and played through it completely in 5-6 hours. Even with the patch, it is quite buggy, but there are times when it is a lot of fun and pretty awesome to play (mansion, mostly). I don't think it was worth $50, but I would probably pay $20 just for the extra not-in-the-movies clips alone.

No, just Ghost. Is there a different storyline for Naobi?

If so, then I am no longer disappointed with how short the game is.

Yep, Niobe has a slightly different storyline, you'll see some repeats and some things are different, i.e. Some parts of Niobe's game takes place at the same time Ghost is doing his thing in different part of the level. Personally she more fun to play as then Ghost. The Ghost shooting levels weren't that much fun in my book. The twins was pure hell....

Also, get into the hacking feature(the choice below options I think) of the game. You can unlock a few more missions that way. Those extra levels can be a bit of a challenge, at least they were for me the first few times.

I've had this game on my computer for quite some time now, only have 4.5 gigs left of space (I serve on IRC, so space is precious) and have been wondering whether it would be worth decompressing it, installing it and attempting to play it on a mid-low end machine. any recommendations?

If you couldn't understand the movie, don't blame the movie.

Instead, check out The Thirteenth Floor and then watch Reloaded again. You should be able to understand a lot more of it the next time around.

Enter the Matrix is a kickass game.. Anyone who enjoyed the movie and are looking forward to the next movie should play this game right through.

Since the game's cinimatics were shot at the same time they were shooting the movie, there are a lot of good scenes that didnt make it into the movie (scenes from other character's perspectives, things that happened that you didnt see). It also has alot of background information, and alot of new stuff that wasn't explained. I won't ruin it with spoilers here though

You also get to see the new oracle (as the original actress died before they could finish shooting the third movie and they had to switch to a new woman)

Great stuff

I liked the game a lot, I rented it , and maybe got 30% through. It does get kind of repetitive at times, but then again.. so does any other game. The hacking part is a nice element, and i guess there is even multiplayer in the game if you hack it correctly. Pretty darn cool. If you liked the movie, then you will proally like this game, but it's at least worth a rental if you own a nextgen console.

Played through with Niaobi on the X-Box it was pretty fun but the sewer levels were sooo tedious. I enjoyed most of the fighting moves in it and was still surprised to see some of them at the very end. Driving sucked in it though. But thats what Gran Turismo is for i guess...

You guys are all talking about how its a shitty console port, but the actual original console version was really good I thought, if you've got an XBox or PS2, then its well worth at least renting.

I have it for the X-box, and although some parts are tedious and others just plain terrible (like driving or the logos), the rest of the game and the storyline more than make up for it.

Granted, I was hoping it would be a lot better, but I really can't complain about the fighting sequences. Another thing that amazed me is how much it looks and sounds like The Matrix. There are fantastic martial arts, and charactors actually block differently depending on how someone is striking at them. The story line is pretty amazing, and gives you a lot more info about the movie and the whole matrix world itself.

However, I think that their money would have been better spent if instead of making the charactors so realistic, they spent time making the environments a little more interactive.

If you are a Matrix fan, I'd recommend buying this game, if you just like good fighting games, rent it first.

Just my two cents...

I didn't say that he wasn't entitled to his opinion, I merely suggested that not understanding the movie may have been a factor in not liking it. There are a lot of people who saw Reloaded as confusing and not making any sense when compared to the first movie, and I think that seeing The Thirteenth Floor months beforehand gave me an advantage when seeing Reloaded.

Saying that something "sucks" also doesn't really give me much room to explore what someone considers the negative points of a game or movie. I suggest refraining from one word descriptions, and I try to stay away from them myself.
