I used to play it quite a bit. For the first couple weeks it was something new and fun, but the more complicated songs were really difficult to do on the gamepads. They'd usually slide around the floor alot, plus they are just soooo fast, it's not easy for a 6' 5'' guy to move that quickly hehe. After a month or so I burned out, then got interested again after seeing some video's of tournaments.

There is a guy on my hall who constantly plays this game in his dorm room. It gets quite annoying after awhile, the beat of him jumping up and down all night long starts to get to you after the 5th hour or so. Also now he has bought this pad made for ddr with your hands and its even louder. I dont know something bothers me about ddr freaks... dont know what it is though.

lurkette is a major DDR junkie, and I admit to a minor jones myself. We've got Ultramix 2 and a pair of mid-range pads for the XBox.
I agree with previous posters, though--there needs to be more ramp-up in difficulty. Going from Light to Standard is a major jump on most songs. |

Heh, i was really into ddr for about a year.. about 3 years or so ago. It seems like the fad has kind of worn off- by now i think anyone with mild exposure to pop culture has seen or heard of ddr. Not nearly as cool as it was a few years ago, but definitely still fun once in a while. In general though, I'd have to say there are a few negative stereotypes associated with ddr, especially when you see a really fat white kid that probably watches lots of anime and knows more japanese than he should playing ddr.
Recently i have gotten into the game called o2jam, originally korean, but most of the people that play it are malaysian or otherwise se asian. It's more like beatmania, but it still carries the same basic theory of ddr, press buttons when they get to the bottom of the screen (or top). |
