I'll be making a Night Elf Priest and Night Elf Warrior on the Alliance when it goes retail. I'll probably make a Troll or Undead character as well on the Horde.

Tentative guild name: "Heroes of the Universe." :)

What?! What happened to Third Echelon? I was supposed to have a human rogue name Sam Phisher too! He was gonna be an expert in engineering, and have the green goggles and all! Come on man, you're killing me! All black leather/cloth gear! Using both dagger and gun! You know it would be awesome.

Crack 10-15-2004 04:40 PM

Someone needs to start a thread or create a "Stickey" about getting the guilds together, I think it would be an awesome Idea! Can we get a mod to spear head this???

naruto510 10-15-2004 04:45 PM

i havent played it

The PVP servers are Alliance versus Horde. On the PVP servers, Alliance and Horde can openly attack each other. They can't on the non-PVP servers. Don't worry about idiot Alliance vs Alliance conflicts; there are currently no plans for a server that allows this.

I have a level 29 Night Elf Priest. Priests are very powerful in WoW with Holy and Shadow types of magic. Here's my priest with his BFH (big fuckin hammer):

I think he looks pretty damn cool!

Paladins are powerful as well. They aren't as powerful as warriors, but they can heal, so it all evens out. Bltzkrieg can tell ya about Paladins!

Lasereth 10-20-2004 01:19 PM

As of now, the only bad part about WoW concerning server play and guild creation is the purely stupid server rule that Blizzard has put into effect. Once the game goes retail, players will only be able to play on servers that are in their time zone. If you want to play with friends in a guild and your friends are in Cali instead of NC, you're fucked. I think this idea is fucking ridiculous. There is hope, however...the WoW forums are blazing with pissed off testers. I believe Blizzard will change this rule before retail else they'll literally lose thousands of customers. Not allowing friends in different time zones to play on the same server is bullshit.

-Lasereth

bltzkriegmcanon 10-20-2004 03:33 PM

While that rule does suck, I have to comment about paladins. So far I've been playing as one, and I'm up to about 25. My guy looks pretty fuckin' cool for a 25 PAL IMO. Paladins are basically holy knights. It doesn't become really apparent what their purpose is until you start fighting undead shit that hits between 20-50 per hit. My Paladin has about 800HP at all times, and around 700MP, and man, when I start fighting undead, it becose truly obvious why you get Undead spells at certain levels. Primarily, Pallys are supposed to fight the Undead. We have spells that are specifically designed to fight the Undead. We can detect, fear, and assault dead things with our Holy Might. And Paladins by default get Mail armor, which is super-duper strong. Which is good, because paladins, by their nature, are second-class meat tanks who can heal and do some good melee damage. My guy has over 1500 AC for a damn reason. He also does an average of 75-100 per hit and over 150 almost every time on "Holy Strike" and crits that around 300+. That's a ton of damage for a 25!

http://appstate.edu/~bm48531/wow3.jpg
Man, that's a BFS (big fuckin' sword) if I ever saw one!

So far, the game has been really fun. And addicting. But way more fun than addicting.

I guess I seriously misunderstood. I thought the PVP servers were going to be Lin2 style. I'll be on a PVP server then, I really love the concept. Sweet screenies from you and bltzkriegmcanon. I really want another Warlock but his pally comments are making me reconsider.

My hero in CoH was a healer and eventually I found it to be more of a job than fun. I felt like I had so many lives in my hands...too much responsibility for me!

I have all of these questions as well. Just like Blizzard always does, they haven't answered any of them. I'll post here when the open beta starts.

-Lasereth

Irishsean 10-21-2004 08:20 AM

If Blizzard lets beta testers keep their accounts into retial I may have to seriously think about whether I want to play it or not. Every game thats done that has had serious problems. Beta testing is about finding bugs, and gives a tester enough advantage over the non-tester with knowledge of the game.

Look at Lineage 2, testers there hid bugs and used them to dupe adena, then were allowed to carry it over into retail. The game is rife with people selling in game cash for real money, bleh.

dbc 10-21-2004 08:21 AM

I'm looking forward to trying the open beta, but when will it be out? It seems Blizzard's concept of "soon" is much different than mine.

Redjake 10-21-2004 11:32 AM

I would bet all the money I have in the bank they will wipe the characters from Closed Beta to retail. I know they will.

Of course they will -- but that's not the question. We want to know if they'll wipe the Open Beta characters before retail. Letting people keep their OB characters would be fucking crazy!

Alright guys, I made a compilation page of all my decent World of Warcraft screenshots. On a different note, I obtained level 50 with my mage yesterday. Awesome.

Here's the link to the screen shots page. 50 pics in there, 56k users beware.

NOTE: I reduced the quality by a little so it would make the file sizes smaller, don't think the game is grainy or anything!

Coulda sworn it was continental..anyone in the US / Canada could play with anyone in the US / Canada but the servers were set in time zones so that one could play on the east coast if one wanted too or on the west coast. They aren't responsible for connection issues etc etc..or something! :p

hehe just got the conformation that the info is correct, they are just continental based servers..ie usa can't play with aussies or koreans.

Looks like they've updated! I knew Blizzard would come through. At least we can play with everyone in our country now.

That picture is hugely exaggerated. Yes, there are multiple problems with each class, but none that won't be fixed or changed before retail. Blizzard listens to class suggestions and usually fix anything the beta testers don't like. Be any class you want...they're all decently polished right now. When it boils down to it, every single beta tester in WoW complains about their class for any reason they can think of. "PRIESTS ARE SO BORING BECAUSE YOU HAVE TO HEAL!!! WARRIORS ARE SO LAME, ALL THEY DO IS ATTACK AND FIGHT!! DRUIDS SUCK, ALL THEY CAN DO IS TRANSFORM, CAST SPELLS, HEAL, AND FIGHT!! WARLOCKS SUCK!!" Most of the reasons are stupid.

What's the learning curve for a game like WOW? The only rpg I've every played (and been really good at) was Diablo; I haven't even played any of the Final Fantasy games. I'm just now playing WC3 for the first time but WOW looks a lot different.

Considering I've never played any MMORPG before, should I expect a pretty steep learning curve? Screenshots look like nothing I've ever seen before.

One of the main reasons I ask is cause it seems like all the screenshots I see for this game (and for similar games like EQ) aren't what I'd expect. They usually consist of a character alone on some vast plane with maybe one monster next to him. This is much different than the shots I'm used to from games like Diablo. Maybe there's just much more to the game than interaction with other beings..? Are these games played for the action or are they mainly just for the submersion into a new world?

Thanks for any insight!

You can learn how to play the game in about 30 minutes. Very easy to play!

You run in to someone (if you are out in the middle of the world, not in a city) about every 1 or so minute. I'm sure it will seriously escalate once Open Beta and Retail start, but most of the people playing you will see in towns. It's a lot of fun. If you want to get a group together to beat some quests, you can advertise on the chat channel, and meat up in one of the towns and go to work

In my opinion, the games are played for a variety of reasons. The reason I play a lot is because I simply want to have an awesome character and be overly rich. I love finding methods and ways to get rich quick and buy outragously priced items :) I also like having powerful characters. The strive to have an incredibly high-leveled character is definitely great.

The best part of it all is this: Let's say you want to play with your friend (and they have an account). You meet up in a town, and he's there. You see him! You can fight next to him, walk along side him, and chat with him. The sheer pleasure of being able to play with your friends with incredible graphics and character customization is awesome. Watching your friend's reaction to your mage doing 1200 damage to a monster is great; the reaction you have when your friend goes flying-battleaxe into a group of trolls without a care in the world is equally as great.

MMORPGs are awesome!

-Ever- 10-24-2004 11:27 AM

I wish it didn't have a monthly cost cause I'm not sure if I'd like it. I guess I could just cough up for a month or two and see what I think if it's not too expensive.

killeena 10-25-2004 09:06 AM

I would like to check it out, but it would be hard for me to just throw away all the time I have put into Final Fantasy XI. Perhaps I won't even check it out, just so I don't know what I am missing.

Booboo 10-25-2004 09:20 AM

I would bet the first month will be free.... thats usually how it works for these games.

And how long till this damn open beta. They put up the "coming soon" message 2 weeks ago.

What exactly is an open beta? I'm guessing it's just a final release beyond the "private" beta, but what are the requirements for the sign-up going to be? If you are able to sign up (IE it's not closed yet) are you basically assured to get in or are there usually further requirements?

Thanks for any info.

Open Beta will probably start around November 8th....Everquest 2 ships November 8th.

enderfax 10-27-2004 11:23 PM

Open Beta is just that, open. Anyone one who wants can sign up. They will hold sign-ups before they bring up the servers (at least I think so.) They may just offer the download and then you create an account and start playing. Who knows really. The basic idea is, anyone who wants can play. They do this to further test the server stability, and to try and find some more "wide-spread" bugs that maybe people in CB haven't encountered yet. In reality, it's to get you hooked and make you buy the game. :)

A few people have told me to expect it between the 8th and 11th.

Take it with a grain of salt.

Irishsean 10-28-2004 11:57 PM

If they wait till the 8th, they have to expect to lose a lot of customers. They really need to have something out before Sony does. I'd expect open beta between the 1st and 5th.
