WoW

Oh man, I was in the stress test.
I am forcing myself to wait till Uni is over before touching WoW- it is going to consume me damnit. I want a gnomish rogue gad darn it. |
I've been waiting for this moment for a long time. :) See you guys on the PVP servers in Azeroth.
-Lasereth |
Great news! That should keep me busy for a while ;P

I think I'll probably play on the PvP server as PiousSmith or ChurchJones, or if they'd let me put in more than 15 characters, I'd definitely be ChurchBenedict. All of these characters are gonna be human paladins, btw . Or a gun-toting warrior called Blitzkrieg McCannon. |
I am going to give a military funeral to my mage. It's going to suck having my level 46 mage (had him since February :() deleted. Starting all over....

theres different servers? I figured that all of them were the same... horde vs alliance forcing pvp on all servers. I dont see why they wouldnt do this. it would be weird grouping with people from different factions. sorry i dont read much on WoW so info would be much appreciated =)
|
Diablo 2 still rules.
|
if anyone happens to run into Gnarmag (orc warrior) you'll know its me.
I was in the stress, and absoloutly loved it. I'm getting all my tribe involved too, so we have a little guild right from the get-go. (tribe = circle of friends. just to make sure there's no confusion) If anyone from the TFP wants to ride with us, just let me know. For The Horde! |
They took away my dwarf mage :(

See him off well. |

Needless to say, I'll be playing on the PVP servers. I personally find it incredibly amusing to be sitting in an Inn in Darkshire and be backstabbed by a level 55 rogue and die in one hit. :) Makes the game more fun and challenging. -Lasereth |
Open Beta, weee. Another chance to figure out what kind of character I will play as my main on release. Played a Magician for the most part in Stress Test and really liked it. I will be playing something different for open beta, maybe a Rogue or Druid. Who knows!!! This game is going to be great, and it's a definite buy!
|
Hmmmm.... Warlock.... yummy...
|
Are there any official, or Unofficial RP Servers. I'm looking to join one of those.
|
If you read the posts above, you'd know there are gonna be official PvP servers...
|

Not a, Player verses Player server. |
Doh, my bad...
|
Finally waited so long for the open beta.... I hope its gonna start next week. Damn can't wait to play :D had so much fun on the stress test. I'm going to be on the PVP server too.
|
Can't wait, will be joining some old guild mates from DAoC on some pvp server.
|
I'm kind of interested in WoW. But can't say I'm majorly interested. Will definitely try it though at a gaming center when it comes outl.

It's tough to go through those low levels again when you remember you strong you used to be... |

exactly.... the only thing that comforts me is that I will BLAZE through the quests now (basically the best way to level in WoW) because I know exactly where and how to do every one up to level 50..... |
They said they have no plans on releasing an official Role-Play server, but they did say if players start demanding it they may consider it. RP would be fun in this game. If you play this game slowly and enjoy it without turbo'ing through the first few levels, you will have a lot of fun. Blowing through the content is fun too, but I find it more enjoyable to do things a little slower. When I played in the Stress Test I was a quest Nazi. I did all the quests for the Undead region, and all the quests stemming from X-roads, Ratchet, etc all the Barrens places. It was a lot of fun because all my friends were in Barrens, I'd do those quests with them, then when they logged off I would go back to the UD area and do those quests!!! Weeee.

god I cant wait for this game.

Has anyone played a Druid? The more I read about the classes, the more I think I'm gravitating that way...
|
i played a NE druid in the stress test and out of the classes i played, i played this one the most. It can heal, kill, support just about anything, i spent most of my time hunting alone and found the druid to be extremely versatile.
|
Sweet Keeb, thanks, now I just gotta decide between the traditional look of the Night Elf, or the "worship the cow god" look of the tauren.
|
Hmmm, I seem to remember something about Hero Classes? But I can't find any info on it... Anyone care to point me in the right direction?

we seriously need to start a TFP clan when the game hits the shelves, then you can show us all where to go Redjake! |
quest
yeah quests were totally the way to go also its best to not miss any cause they could unlock other quests in future cities.
|
TFP guild sounds like an amazing idea, actually. we'd need 2, one for horde and one for alliance. The TFPA and the TFPH! I'm signing up for the open beta, anyone interested in this post here or PM me with names, races, and classes. Long live the TFP!
|
I plan to sign up for open beta. Will definately be buying this on release.
|
me and Lasereth and Blitzkrieg are starting a guild when it goes retail. we haven't decided on a name, but it will definitely be an Alliance guild. very casual guild, not many restrictions (you have to call me sir!!!!!111)
we have some good ideas, and having a person who's played since february as the guildmaster couldn't hurt right :) |
From reading the boards it sounds like about 90% of people are going alliance, bleh...
|
I'm hesitant to actually fork money over and buy it.. the only thing I did this summer was work, WoW, and occasionally drink me a light beer or 10.. Now I need to focus..
|
I have yet to play it, so I don't know what race/class I'll be going. I plan on signing up for the open beta and later buying the game.
What about the Night Elves or Undead? Are they included in the Alliance/Horde? And yes, I'd very much like to join a TFP clan. |
Quote:
|
I'll be making a Night Elf Priest and Night Elf Warrior on the Alliance when it goes retail. I'll probably make a Troll or Undead character as well on the Horde.
Tentative guild name: "Heroes of the Universe." :) -Lasereth |

Someone needs to start a thread or create a "Stickey" about getting the guilds together, I think it would be an awesome Idea! Can we get a mod to spear head this???
|
i havent played it

As of now, the only bad part about WoW concerning server play and guild creation is the purely stupid server rule that Blizzard has put into effect. Once the game goes retail, players will only be able to play on servers that are in their time zone. If you want to play with friends in a guild and your friends are in Cali instead of NC, you're fucked. I think this idea is fucking ridiculous. There is hope, however...the WoW forums are blazing with pissed off testers. I believe Blizzard will change this rule before retail else they'll literally lose thousands of customers. Not allowing friends in different time zones to play on the same server is bullshit.
-Lasereth |
While that rule does suck, I have to comment about paladins. So far I've been playing as one, and I'm up to about 25. My guy looks pretty fuckin' cool for a 25 PAL IMO. Paladins are basically holy knights. It doesn't become really apparent what their purpose is until you start fighting undead shit that hits between 20-50 per hit. My Paladin has about 800HP at all times, and around 700MP, and man, when I start fighting undead, it becose truly obvious why you get Undead spells at certain levels. Primarily, Pallys are supposed to fight the Undead. We have spells that are specifically designed to fight the Undead. We can detect, fear, and assault dead things with our Holy Might. And Paladins by default get Mail armor, which is super-duper strong. Which is good, because paladins, by their nature, are second-class meat tanks who can heal and do some good melee damage. My guy has over 1500 AC for a damn reason. He also does an average of 75-100 per hit and over 150 almost every time on "Holy Strike" and crits that around 300+. That's a ton of damage for a 25!
http://appstate.edu/~bm48531/wow3.jpg Man, that's a BFS (big fuckin' sword) if I ever saw one! So far, the game has been really fun. And addicting. But way more fun than addicting. |
Classes best to worst in soloing:
1. Shammy -4241495198463. Everyone else... |

My hero in CoH was a healer and eventually I found it to be more of a job than fun. I felt like I had so many lives in my hands...too much responsibility for me! |
Open Beta please.
|
Quote:
Yeah, is there any new word on when this is supposed to start? Also, will we be able to keep our accounts when it goes retail if we have an open beta account and just switch over to a paid account, or will we have to start over fresh after retail? |
Quote:
-Lasereth |
If Blizzard lets beta testers keep their accounts into retial I may have to seriously think about whether I want to play it or not. Every game thats done that has had serious problems. Beta testing is about finding bugs, and gives a tester enough advantage over the non-tester with knowledge of the game.
Look at Lineage 2, testers there hid bugs and used them to dupe adena, then were allowed to carry it over into retail. The game is rife with people selling in game cash for real money, bleh. |
I'm looking forward to trying the open beta, but when will it be out? It seems Blizzard's concept of "soon" is much different than mine.
|
I would bet all the money I have in the bank they will wipe the characters from Closed Beta to retail. I know they will.

Alright guys, I made a compilation page of all my decent World of Warcraft screenshots. On a different note, I obtained level 50 with my mage yesterday. Awesome.
Here's the link to the screen shots page. 50 pics in there, 56k users beware. NOTE: I reduced the quality by a little so it would make the file sizes smaller, don't think the game is grainy or anything! http://www.appstate.edu/~jt52439/WOWPAGE.html |

Coulda sworn it was continental..anyone in the US / Canada could play with anyone in the US / Canada but the servers were set in time zones so that one could play on the east coast if one wanted too or on the west coast. They aren't responsible for connection issues etc etc..or something! :p hehe just got the conformation that the info is correct, they are just continental based servers..ie usa can't play with aussies or koreans. |

What's the learning curve for a game like WOW? The only rpg I've every played (and been really good at) was Diablo; I haven't even played any of the Final Fantasy games. I'm just now playing WC3 for the first time but WOW looks a lot different.
Considering I've never played any MMORPG before, should I expect a pretty steep learning curve? Screenshots look like nothing I've ever seen before. One of the main reasons I ask is cause it seems like all the screenshots I see for this game (and for similar games like EQ) aren't what I'd expect. They usually consist of a character alone on some vast plane with maybe one monster next to him. This is much different than the shots I'm used to from games like Diablo. Maybe there's just much more to the game than interaction with other beings..? Are these games played for the action or are they mainly just for the submersion into a new world? Thanks for any insight! -T |

You can learn how to play the game in about 30 minutes. Very easy to play! You run in to someone (if you are out in the middle of the world, not in a city) about every 1 or so minute. I'm sure it will seriously escalate once Open Beta and Retail start, but most of the people playing you will see in towns. It's a lot of fun. If you want to get a group together to beat some quests, you can advertise on the chat channel, and meat up in one of the towns and go to work  In my opinion, the games are played for a variety of reasons. The reason I play a lot is because I simply want to have an awesome character and be overly rich. I love finding methods and ways to get rich quick and buy outragously priced items :) I also like having powerful characters. The strive to have an incredibly high-leveled character is definitely great. The best part of it all is this: Let's say you want to play with your friend (and they have an account). You meet up in a town, and he's there. You see him! You can fight next to him, walk along side him, and chat with him. The sheer pleasure of being able to play with your friends with incredible graphics and character customization is awesome. Watching your friend's reaction to your mage doing 1200 damage to a monster is great; the reaction you have when your friend goes flying-battleaxe into a group of trolls without a care in the world is equally as great. MMORPGs are awesome! |
I wish it didn't have a monthly cost cause I'm not sure if I'd like it. I guess I could just cough up for a month or two and see what I think if it's not too expensive.
|
I would like to check it out, but it would be hard for me to just throw away all the time I have put into Final Fantasy XI. Perhaps I won't even check it out, just so I don't know what I am missing.
|
I would bet the first month will be free.... thats usually how it works for these games.
And how long till this damn open beta. They put up the "coming soon" message 2 weeks ago. |
Quote:
Thanks for any info. -T |
bump, for my question above ;)
|
Open Beta will probably start around November 8th....Everquest 2 ships November 8th.
|
Open Beta is just that, open. Anyone one who wants can sign up. They will hold sign-ups before they bring up the servers (at least I think so.) They may just offer the download and then you create an account and start playing. Who knows really. The basic idea is, anyone who wants can play. They do this to further test the server stability, and to try and find some more "wide-spread" bugs that maybe people in CB haven't encountered yet. In reality, it's to get you hooked and make you buy the game. :)
|
Quote:
A few people have told me to expect it between the 8th and 11th. Take it with a grain of salt. |
If they wait till the 8th, they have to expect to lose a lot of customers. They really need to have something out before Sony does. I'd expect open beta between the 1st and 5th.
|
Lasereth, are you guys gonna be on the pvp or carebear server?
|
PVP
-Lasereth |
Horde or Alliance? I might come with you guys... my guildies are pussying out in favor of a crappy other game.
I'm thinking Night-Elf druid, Undead Shadow Priest, or Tauren Shaman at the moment. |
Go Horde! PvP! Woo :D
|
Trying to get to the world of warcraft page but it keeps timing out. Anyone else able to connect? I wanna get in!!!
|
It's down for updates, hehe, btw, it just changed from "Cannot connect..." to "Unauthorized to view..."
|
Site is back up, nothing about open beta yet though..
|
I seriously thought the downtime was in preparation for a nice Open Beta post. Oh well. :(
Sean, we're making an Alliance guild definitely and probably a Horde guild as well. My current choices with 100% certainty are a Night Elf Priest (maybe Shadow) and a Night Elf Warrior. -Lasereth |
Gah..I'm so torn on what race/class to be..Night elf hunter looks to be fun..but so does an Undead warlock. Good thing I'll have some time to check them both out! I would think that a hunter would make a good PvP scout/hit and run type player...that sounds fun. :)
|
Hmmm, for alliance, I'd probly go with druid, unless the guild was heal heavy, and then I'd go rogue. My rogue in SB was one of the most feared on the server. Might be fun to do that again.
