"Inverted" or "normal" mouse in a FPS
There is a thread on this right now, but a coworker and I are having an argument on which is better, an “inverted mouse” or the default setting. Now, I think that what the game manufactures call “inverted” is actually more normal.
Think about it, you look up, you pull your head back; down – forward. Make a whole lot of sense to me. Let me know which if us is crazy.

Always Inverted
Feels much more natural to me. I have no real reason why. Just always has.

You lot are freaky :P
I've always used the normal settings because that's just the way the cursor works on the desktop. I can't understand how pushing your hand forward can be associated with looking down. Perhaps for flight games where the actual physical action would be to push forward with you hand, but not fps :/ |

Unless its a flight sim, I dont see how you could possibly call Inverted normal. You push the mouse up, you expect your cursor to go up. I dont see much more to it then that, which is why I use normal.
Same goes for the WASD and arrow key things.. long as you have flexible fingers arrow keys provide you with a much greater defined grouping of keys.

Destrox: That was it seems you when you move the mouse "up" (read, away from you) you're pushing the back of the persons head forward so they look down. Makes a lot of sense especially if you're using a joystick.

I didn't know anyone actually inverted the mouse for FPS. Flight controls, etc. I can understand, but not the actual FPS! When I push the mouse forward I want the damn crosshairs to go UP. I can't imagine doing it the other way. I guess if ya play a lot of console FPS games that use inverted controls (most) then you could get used to playing PC FPS games like that, but using joysticks is way different from using a mouse.

For any console games, I always use inverted.
For computer games though, I do not like inverted. It's much more accurate to have normal style than inverted. Flight sims are the exception though.

I gotta use normal. Like Lasereth said, I expect my view to go up when I move my mouse forward.

Normal when it comes to FPS with a mouse, Invert when it comes to Joysticks, Xboxes, etc. Those are just the ways that come natural.

I can't stand inverted controls, they throw me off. It doesn't matter if I'm on a PC with a mouse or on a console with a controller. The only games I can play with inverted controls are flight sims because that is how the controls actually work.

I don't know why there's an argument about it... It's an option in game preferences because it IS a matter of preference. There's no absolute "better" about it.
Me, I prefer inverted. Don't really know why--I agree, it doesn't make much sense. It's just what feels best. |

I always use normal, but I did know a guy who used inverted, and he was one of the very best in the game that we both played... along with me.

And yeah it makes sense for joysticks, but you dont use joysticks if you want some form of accuracy in a FPS.

Normal settings on FPS. Then again, I used mice to control cursors long before I ever played an FPS... It just feels more natural.

Normal. Even having the inverted possible causes no end of problems. If you have two people playing a FPS in turns (One person playing inverted, and the other normal in this case), a power struggle ensues over the options menu, wasting a ton of time.

normal; I used inverted back in the original UT days, but I found a game that had normal only, so I elected to use normal for everything, and I have every since.

Normal. I had 3 coworkers in my last job and 2 of them used inverted though. One was a flight sim addict and the other just odd.
