True Crime: Streets of L.A.
First off, I must say that this game is not just a Vice City clone like many people like to say. It should get awards just for having Christopher Walken in it!
![]() ***SPOILER ALERT!!!************* Anyways, I'm in the S&M Dungeon, and I can get all the way up to the second set of buckets. Thing is, I can't stop crashing into them! They're just waaaay too tightly fit together! Anyone have any tips for getting by these things? I figured I might as well seek help before I frustrate myself to death. ******SPOILER ALERT!!!********** |

I actually liked the game, apart from the really lame storyline towards the end. The city was created extremely well, if you've been there (Los Angeles), you'll probably recognize some landmarks there. The shooting part of the game is a lot better than GTA's, as is the driving and shooting (at the same time) parts. The cars themselves actually feel and handle very differently depending on which car you're driving. I liked the aspect of playing a cop (you can even frisk citizens walking down the street and collect drugs or weapons), but you also have these good cop/bad cop meters that raise or lower depending on your performance. If your bad cop meter gets high enough, the cops will actually start to chase you.
While you're driving around L.A., you'll start to get radio transmissions asking you to assist in stopping various crimes around the city (robberies, rapes, assaults, gang warfares, kidnappings, etc.) which are really cool for a while, then they start to get a little old. You don't have to help in these crimes, but it can be fun just tracking down someone and killing them (thus earning bad cop points) or arresting them. Its a cool game, but it has its flaws, for the $20 it is now, its probably worth a try, if you're still skeptical go and rent it. I didn't really have a problem with the S&M dungeon part of the game, I actually got through that part pretty easily. Have you checked http://www.gamefaqs.com/ for a walkthrough of that particular level?

The biggest problems I had with True Crime was the horrible pop-up level, the somewhat dodgy controls, and the incompatible combat. You'd drive down the middle of the street, stop suddenly, then a second or so later a post appears. Then you'd hop out, try to aim at someone but shoot them in the process, THEN you can't attack people on the ground unless the mission is a combat one. Odd.
Other than that, I like it =)

I grew tired of this game in about a day, there just isn't enough there and what is there isn't perfected, the controls suck, gameplay is sub par, and the story is boring. I wouldn't reccommend the game, GTA3 or GTA VC are much better.

All I have to do now is get all the dog bones for snoop and finish the rest of the bonus training sessions I didn't get through while beating the game. I beat every level, including the alternate ones, and had fun all the way through. One aspect where it REALLY needs work is the levels where you have to tail a suspect. Sure, driving too slow and letting the car get away is on obvious failure of the mission, but when the suspect is in your field of vision and it says "I lost him!", that's pretty lame. They need to give you more distance to work with. |

I still think the game was lacking in too many areas and that is my opinion.
