Just Bought a Gamecube......
along with Metal Gear Solid:The Twin Snakes, and a memory card. It was a huuuuuuge impulse buy, and I haven't opened it yet. I'm not quite sure if I should open it up and keep it, or leave it in the box and return it.
It was a decent price, only $100 for the console. $40 for the game. $20 for the memory card. Any opinions, comments are appreciated |

Get 3 more controllers, 3 friends and Super Smash Bros. Melee. After about 20 minutes, you won't leave the house.

Congratulations! You own the most fun console you can buy.
I'll second the SSB:M suggestion. Try Eternal Darkness or Mario Golf. Plus, the new Mario Paper game comes out later this year, and yeah, Resident Evil 4 is a GameCube exclusive. I don't think it will be out until 2005, though. Anyway, open it up, set it up, and keep it! You won't be disappointed. |

Viewtiful Joe is pretty good too for an action game.

If you loved the old MarioKarts, MarioKart: Double Dash is a blast.
Also, the gamecube's worth getting just for the Zelda Special Edition disc... the one that has the two NES Zeldas and the two N64 Zeldas all on one disc! Heaven. You can usually find it out on Ebay, as it's not sold on it's own in stores (afaik). |

I got resident evil zero, played it for about 10 minutes, the controls/camera is very screwed up, the camera keeps changing position so you have to like go all the way around the joy stick to go forward, it was so annoying i gave up, as did my friend who plays ALOT of games...

Smash Bros Melee, Metroid Prime, Viewtiful Joe, F-Zero, Prince of Persia (if you don't already have it for another system), Soul Calibur II (ditto), Ikaruga, Wind Waker, Mario Kart Double Dash, Tales of Symphonia.
This winter we have Metroid Prime 2, Paper Mario 2, Resident Evil 4, Baten Kaitos, Viewtiful Joe 2, Prince of Persia 2, and, of course, the DS. |

And don't forget Donkey Konga and the Konga Country (or whatever it's called). I'm thinking these could well be two more games that make owning the Cube worthwhile in and of themselves.

I bought my GC for Super Mario Sunshine and Zelda and I recommend both games. Metroid Prime was a major disappointment, you can't look up! The control/camera on Resident Evil was atrocious, don't bother. The new RE supposedly fixes these problems, we'll see. The graduated index-finger buttons give me major carpal tunnel pains after about an hour of play. Anyone else get that?

If you like having friends over to play video games then Super Monkey Ball 2 is really fun. Also, if you have a GBA then Pac-Man Vs. is really fun. It lets you play old school pacman on the GBA while the other 3 players are ghosts and try to eat you.
Ikaruga is one of those games that if you liked the old 1942 games then you would like it. As for fans of F-zero series, F-zero GX is the absolute best of the bunch. Gamecube is a nice buy all in all. I am usually slow on buying the consoles, but I really enjoy the uniquness (sp?..or even a word?) of the games on gamecube, even if there existed a lack of more mature titles.

I second getting Animal Crossing, even if just for the fishing alone!
Anyway, you'll be happy with it. There are some really good games out there for it. Currently I'm playing Tales of Symphonia and am loving it. Great RPG if you're into that sort of thing.

Ha ha, hold down the right trigger.
Metroid Prime is still in my top 5 best videogames ever list. It's quite possibly the best. I LOVE that game and stand by my opinion that it's the best game on Gamecube and probably the best game in the past 5 years. -Lasereth

twin snakes is a great game if it's anything like the original mgs. I heard there are more cutscenes and less play time. If thats the only reason you bought it (twin snakes) retuen the GC, buy a used PSone for like 50 bucks MGS1 for about 20 bucks new and fuhgettaboutit

Funny, I bought a Gamecube that day, too. I bought a "pre-owned" (meaning bought by a parent without asking the kid, returned after the 2 week return window, marked down 30%, perfect condition) Cube, with Metroid Prime, Zelda: WW, and Mario Party 4, and 2 more controllers, for about... $150? So far I am EXTREMELY pleased with the system and the games.
I had nearly forgotten why I always liked Nintendo systems the best. Then I remembered it's because Nintendo games rock. They're all about gameplay. X-Box games are all about effects (even though they're not that good), PS2 is all style, and Gamecube games, well, they're just plain FUN. Of course, that's an enormous, ridiculous generalization... but you don't need to listen to me, anyway. This next week I'm playing on getting Mario Golf, Mario Kart: DD, Soul Calibur II, and another controller. Then on Tuesday I'm getting my wisdom teeth out, which means I'm going to sit on my ass all drugged up for 5 days playing Gamecube. Excellent. So, if you haven't already, use the Gamecube. If you return it, I'll kick you in the face 9 times. Or something like that. |

My roommates and I got a gamecube for just this summer, then once we disband the person who paid the most is taking it.
We bought SSB:M, F-Zero GX, Soul Calibur II, and Mario Kart Double Dash. I reccommend you do the same.

If you don't have wind waker with your gamecube, then you shouldn't own a gamecube.
I have all of the big three consoles, and each have their pros and cons, and if you just want to have some good gaming and fun then I guess you've made the right choice.

My reccomendations:
Single Player: Super Monkey Ball 1 Metroid Prime Mario Sunshine Zelda: TWW Eternal Darkness (and DO NOT look at any guides or read more than a review's score before playing this. This game can get spoiled pretty easily, and it will ruin the entire effect) Multiplayer: Super Monkey Ball 1 & 2 Smash Brothers I think that's plenty to get you started. Look into the genres you like though. |

i'll second nearly all the recommendations made so far. i've played xbox and ps2 quite a bit, but there is something special about Nintendo-made games that just cannot be imitated.
Metroid Prime - now $20... a steal for that price Mario Sunshine - I like this game more than a lot of people did, but it deserves my personal recommendation. Smash Bros. Melee - best multiplayer game ever once you get into it. it took me a while, but it's been a blast since. Super Monkey Ball 2 - Decent single player mode, tons of replay value for multiplayer. Pikmin - Many original gameplay elements... cheap price right now, but you might want to wait for the sequel coming out soon. Eternal Darkness - Underrated game. keep it

IKARUGA and that weird wario wares conversion for the gamecube "Atsuware! made in wario", uber fun single player gameboy style turned into four player pure reflex arcade gaming frenzy.
