Most Emotional Videogame Moments
Every now and then a developer/publisher will get together to create a truly emotional experience in a videogame. Now's the time to remember them! Any time you've resulted in a strong emotion while playing a videogame can go here. I'll start:
*SPOILERS*

Chrono Trigger - When Crono dies (before you knew he was coming back); the first time Lucca turns on the screen that shows how Lavos nuked the world.
Final Fantasy 7 - The big one. Aeris dying! Probably the most emotional scene in any videogame.
Metal Gear Solid - When Meryl is being shot by the unknown sniper and Snake not being able to do anything about it. The entire ending sequence of MGS as well, especially when Naomi talks about Foxdie.
Final Fantasy 8 - When the two Gardens face off against each other with the main characters being strewn all over the place throughout the battle.
Eternal Darkness: Sanity's Requiem - At the end when all of the characters from the game come back together, transforming within Alexandra to beat the end boss as one.
Grand Theft Auto: Vice City - The entire last quarter of the game when everyone is out to kill Tommy. It seems that every person that tries to fuck him over just makes him a bigger badass. The end of the game was really exhilarating.
Feel free to name as many as you want, but tell why you think it was emotionally compelling! -Lasereth

*********SPOILERS***********
DEFINITELY Aeris dying in FF7. Not so much n individual moment, but all of FFX was emotional from the point on that it's revealed that Tidus is a dream, and the ending, as he disappears and Yuna runs to hold him and instead runs through him is VERY emotional.

The Death of Aeris in Final Fantasy VII
The Promise to Rinoa by Squall in Final Fantasy VIII The Death of Crono in Chrono Trigger The End of Final Fantasy X Death of Grey Fox (Ninja) in Metal Gear Solid - Not sure why it is, lol. The Slaughter and Destruction of Nibelheim in Final Fantasy VII. It's kinda late so I can't really think of any more right now but if I do I'll be sure to edit them in

Also the end where Naomi narrates about finding something to live for... SPOILER In Mafia when Tommy is finished telling his story and is an old man... just the whole ending sequence... I don't think I've ever been floored by such emotion before (in a game) I was not expecting him to die. I don't what it was about Metroid Prime but the whole game felt very emotional, perhaps it was because of the scanning and finding out about a Lost Civilisation that fell despite trying so hard to retain itself in the face of technology. Once I destroyed Metroid Prime I had the greatest satisfaction a game could ever give me. Damn good idea for a thread Lasereth! EDIT: Damn it, I have to go play Twin Snakes again now! Sniper Wolf's speech/cutscene in MGS was excellent...deserved an Academy Award.
But I'd have to say that my most emotional moment was Aeris' death - not because of the fact that it happened, and it wasn't emotional when I saw it - but when a person I knew told me and ruined everything. That emotion, unsurprisingly, was frustration.

Every time in Super Mario World, when I would jump of Yoshi to gain an extra jump, or save me from falling to death.Yoshi just fell calmly down to oblivion. I alway felt very bad.

The entire last hour of MGS2 was a herky-jerk experience for me. The entire simulation thing was a major blow to me and probably anybody who played the game. It could only be compared to the kind of revelation that one experienced by watching The Matrix, it was some major shit.
Max Payne 1 and 2. I dunno, that entire game is a shitstorm, and you really end up feeling sorry for Max. That guy just can't catch a fuckin' break. For once, I'd like to see Max go on a vacation, eat a cheeseburger, and get laid. Is that too much to ask, that Mr. Gravelthroat get fucking laid without some psychotic inner circle mob fucker coming after him? Also, some lozenges wouldn't hurt him either.

its not so much that chrono dies as it is that you are SUPPOSED to lose the battle... seeing that loss for the first time really pissed me off.

*sigh* That's what I get for living under a rock for .... a long time ... shouldn't have read the parts about Chrono Trigger.
Anyways, someone else mentioned the ending of Mafia and I just wanted to agree. That game is so much better than GTA it's not even funny - what a wonderfully done story, and the game's practically cinematic. The ending was awesome.

I'd like to add some more, most brought on by others in this thread:
*SPOILERS* FFX: When Yuna and the gang tell Tidus that the summoners have to die after they've fought Sin due to the Aeon forces. Tidus just went apeshit. Very very emotional. The ending was really sad too. Good one to those that mentioned it! All of Sniper Wolf's scenes (especially her death scene) in MGS. Quote:
I couldn't have said it better myself about Metroid Prime. The more I think about it, the more I think that it's possibly the best game ever made. When I got done with Metroid Prime I didn't feel like playing videogames for a while because I knew I'd never get an experience that rivalled Prime. Learning about the history of Tallon IV and the Ancients while getting powerups and technology from their past to help avenge their deaths was simply amazing. By the end of the game you felt like you were really on Tallon IV trying to save the planet. Keep'em coming! -Lasereth

haha, yep. I didn't expect much, but DAMN. Worse than those Silent Hill endings Emotion-wise, the Silent Hill games have always kept me real up in the air. You are scared shitless, hoping to beat the game in a record time so you don't have to play it anymore. That's emotion SPOILERS Crono dying in Chrono Trigger The ending of Final Fantasy VII - that was some good shit Whenever the "One-Winged Angel" theme busts in during the final boss battle with Sephiroth in FFVII - can't be beat. Just a badass, apocalyptic feeling. Anything with Max Payne, as Blitz said. That guy needs a break. Bad. Mind-fuck: In Jak II, when you find out the kid in the future is actually you.... Medal of Honor (first one, for PSX) - all the levels in that game bring back emotions. Being honest to God frightened of Nazis (being undercover) can get to you. Very nostalgic. Great atmospheres that brought on emotions. MGS - The ending speech by Naomi and the choir theme. Incredible. Agreeing with Blitz again, the "mind-fuck" sequence at the end of MGS2. Fighting all those damn Rays. And fighting along side Snake! Very emotional. You got to fight along side your favorite videogame character. Finally beating the fucking Water Dungeon in Ocarina of Time. I think I walked around school with a smile on my face for a week after that. Gran Turismo (first one) brings back massive memories, especially since I played it to death during that summer. I was too young to get a job (by about one year), so PSX was my friend. I played Gran Turismo to DEATH. Any time I think of Gran Turismo, it brings back a flood of emotions of being poor, walking to Roses out of boredom, and the excitement of getting turbo kits on my Mazda RX-7. Final Fantasy VII as a whole is just one big emotion-fest. Any area in that game makes my brain go crazy. Resident Evil: Code Veronica for Dreamcast. It felt like I was the only person who got to enjoy the game, since no one actually had a Dreamcast but me and Lasereth. The game was so damn long, too. Just felt like it was "my" Resident Evil game. Splinter Cell: Sniping Nikoladz in the damn head. I was PUMPED on that for a long time. And the "lights out" moment a few minutes before that. Very emotional, didn't know if it was the right thing to do or not. Fifth freedom! The first time I played World of Warcraft. Just running around and seeing how massive the world was really got me. The beautiful graphics and environments still "WoW" me now.

here's one.....
Every time I get away with the enemy's flag in Houston Vehicles or Miami Vehicles in Tribes2. The snipers in that game are just unreal. So much that you'd think they were AimBotting or something. Go for the flag and RUN (no ship waiting) and... damn its intense.

The game is UT, CTF in Facing Worlds. It's has been a long brutal game, many lives have been lost, but finally the game is tied and next point wins. I make it into enemy’s base, all my teammates that covered me are now dead, I get the flag and start running back. Most people die before reaching the half way mark, picked off by snipers or hit with a group of rockets, but not me, I’m running and jumping, dodging fire left and right. One or two close calls from a rocket leave my health close to none. The Keg O' Health respawns right in time for me to grab it! Once I make it past half way mark, base is closer then ever, but victory is still far away. My heart starts pounding, while rockets and machine-gun fire are flying past me. By the time I reach the opening to my base, my health begins to drop fast. The enemy is gaining on me, but I must persevere, victory is closer now more then ever. Finally I see our flag around the corner just a few steps from my teams victory. Then what do I see out of the corner of my eye? A rocket, but not any ordinary rocket, this one is from a Redeemer! I make one Final leap to the flag. I watch the rocket as it zooms right past me, smashing into the ground right in front of me. A huge explosion! My base cleared of all life. All is over, I was so close... so close. As I lie there in bloody chucks, watching the enemy grab back his flag and snatching ours, hearing the vicious taunts from them. I think to myself, damn, I love this game.
