Final Fantasy 7 VS Legend of Zelda: Ocarina of Time ("Best. Game. Ever." contest)

http://www.GameFAQs.com

THE match that most everyone's bracket in this contest depends on is today. Widely considered to be icons in the gaming world, Final Fantasy 7 and Legend of Zelda: Ocarina of Time collide in the championship of the 32-64 Bit Division. I loved both games, but due to the fact I can still enjoy FF7, I have to vote for it. I also have it winning my bracket though, so that helps reassure my vote for it, heh. Either way though, either game deserves to win in my book.

Let's hear it from you guys and gals: who's gettin' your vote?

MGS ran up against FF7? WTF? How is this working... they are comparing games that cannot be compared, MGS != FF7, both are excellent games and truly deserve 10/10, however to say one is better than the other... apples and ferraris...

Yeah, that saddened me too; that's the way it goes sometimes though. Also LoZ:OoT VS Goldeneye wasn't too easy on my eyes, either. Seeding sucks at times.

like i've said elsewhere, final fantasy seven is one of the main reasons the playstation became as popular as it did. that game made the console.

I'm once again split because I don't think this contest is entirely fair. The games that are pitted against each other are in entirely different genres and some are sleepers that no one has ever heard of, while others are among the most popular games ever. That's right. I emphasize popular because some of the games that are in the top 16 are mega-popular, but still not that immensely great, nor are they even close to the supposed "Best.Game.Ever" status that GameFaqs means to promote. Between the two games posted, I can't, with good conscience say that either game is better than the other.

I agree that it's not terribly fair for sleeper games to face popular games...but then again, this is a single website's popularity contest that's wearing a mask that says "Best. Game. Ever.", so how fair would it be for many popular games to be eliminated in the first and second rounds? You can't really only accept votes from people who's played both games extensively, so you can't expect it to be that way, however nice that would be.

The seedings were based on a nomination system that had submissions sent in from anybody who wanted to be heard. It can't be helped that Gunstar Heroes got out-nominated by LoZ:LttP, Panzer Dragoon Saga got the short end of the stick compared to Goldeneye, Punch-Out and Megaman 2 didn't get enough nominations to get into the tourny at all, or any other cases.

FF7 is my favourite PS1 game ever. If they remade the exact same game for the PS2 (but with better graphics) I'd probably buy a PS2 to play it even though I've played the original one too many times to count. Gets my vote.

Why remake it when they could make a sequel for it already? Hell, they made one for FFX...so why NOT one for the most legendary game Square's ever made?

they might not want to mess it up as a lot of sequels tend to do. they might just not want to mess with it for this reason. i would love a sequel though.

Yeah, true, but if that's the case, why bother making a movie-sequel to it? If they don't make a game-sequel for it to ensure that its iconic status stays, then I wish they wouldn't make a movie-sequel either.

That's half the reason on the dot. Square-Enix says they don't want to risk making a game that players wouldn't enjoy as a sequel to FF7. In other words, they don't want to risk fucking up possibly their greatest game. The other half is money and people -- they feel right now that it would take way too much money and resources to produce a FF7 sequel right now.

That being said, I believe with near certainty that there will be a sequel to FF7 in the future. I really hope I'm right...Advent Children doesn't look too hot right now.

Just to inform the general public here at TFP, FF7 won by about 7,000 votes...not quite as close a match as many of us had thought.

FF7 is an RPG (FF = Final Fantasy)

Describing what it's about, however, is a MUCH more difficult task. It's a VERY complicated story which I'll leave to someone else to attempt and describe it without giving away any of the awesome twists.

I cant give away the story, basically it is the story of a revolutionary force trying to prevent the destruction of the earth, fighting an unseen foe who is like a puppet master over a massive corporation who has the world by the balls.

Before it is over, everyone involved questions who they are and how they fit in the grand scheme of the world.

[edit]

not what i thought it was... nm

'Twas single-player, Fremen. Pretty sweet game though; if you're into RPG's, check it out sometime (this is coming from someone who's only played four RPG's that I ever liked, so I think you'll have a good chance of diggin' it).

The only real complaint about Quest64 I had was all the monotonous running you had to do until you were able to warp from town to town.
