Final Fantasy XI
Anyone else here played this game yet?
Its my first MMORPG ever. And I can say that it has not caught my interest yet. The fact that it is Final Fantasy is the reason I bought it. But have all MMORPG's been like this game. I have been playing for 8 hours(since I bought it last saturday), have a lvl 5 Black mage, and about 100 gil to my name. Some feathers I have received from monsters and thats about it. I know the have added many elements to make the game feel no linear, but so much that it lacks structure. I mean what level do I have to be to accomplish my first mission? I ask people how I get more spells, b/c my "stone" magic just doesnt cut it, they say, buy it from magic shops. I havent checked the prices, but I dont think my 100 gil is going very far. Bah, maybe someone can show me the light at the end of this tunnel, and maybe help me enjoy this game a little more? There is so much more that I just cant think straight. I am having major regrets about buying this game. I dont even find it enjoyable . What am I doing wrong? Dunno.

MMORPGs appeal to a certain type of gamer. Some people find leveling up day after day just to get cooler armor is worth it...I'm one of them, unfortunately. Don't expect a huge story like in single-player Final Fantasy games, because there's not one.
The only MMORPG that I can say is story and quest driven 100% is World of Warcraft, and it might not even come out this year. There is no leveling up in that game unless it's through a quest. The quests are fun and innovative as well. Other than that, most other MMORPGs are leveling-fests, and ya definitely have to have the patience to play them. I love MMORPGs, but I agree that some are simply boring if all there is to do is level up and do a few quests. -Lasereth

Well first we need to know what country you reside in...San d'Oria, Bastok or Windurst. Missions vary between countries.
Magic is fairly cheap in the early levels, but later on the rare spells will cost you a small fortune. Feel free to PM me if you want to talk about it more. |

I have put a bit of time into FFXI and can say that as you get deeper in it either gets more fun or more addicting. I can't tell. It is the first MMORPG I have played. It is a fairly hardcore game that requires a LOT of time(25 days logged so far), but seeing your character progress seems worth it to me. If anyone on the forum is on the Midgardsormr server send me a tell. We can go do a Burning Circle Fight or just xp. (ingame name is toranaga)

I was into it pretty heavy starting in October till around March. Then it got borning, and i was sick of finding partys, i think they game is fucking great. but it has many flaws that wont keep my attention forever. But no MMORPG will ever do that, they all get old after a while., so im just gonna hop from one to the next. Right now im on City of heros and its fucking fun, ill play this till World of warcraft. Play ffxi though, its fun, just dont be mad when it gets old in 5 months.

You definitely have to get higher than level 5 blm to fully experience the game. The game doesn't even really start until you're level 10 and getting into parties. Black mages are in pretty high demand too so leveling up after 10 shouldn't be a big problem. Parties are the way the game was meant to be played and that doesn't really start until level 10 so just try to get up there and then give the game another chance.

I made it to about mid-level and decided this game was a good idea, bad implementation.
I ended up uninstalling before my free month ended. I would definately advise you not to buy/play this game. Minor list of grievances. -No server select abilities.(You had to buy an item in game that gave a "code" so people could create a character there) -Combining Asian and English speaking players. (Nothing racial, but it's fucking annoying to ask someone to group and get "I dont speak English"...I heard it often) -Certain "hidden" classes.(Forcing you to level up another class to gain the ability to quest for additional ones) I bought the game to be a dark knight damn it,not a lame red mage. -Point and click controls (The user interface was also horrible trash) -MMORPG based on ps2 controls...Jesus..I'm not even going to say anything. It's been a few months and I think an expansion or two since I played..so unless they have magically changed the game and made it perfection incarnate..then I should still be on track. |

I was going for about a month. I just got bored after a while because when you're a White Mage, you have to depend on your hunting mates to not get you killed. Simultaneously, you don't make as much cash because you can't kill anything remotely your level, thus you cant afford your insanely expensive spells. There are less and less people who can support you the higher level you become, and so at some point it slows down and you go week by week instead of day by day.
I would have tried a different job, but the White Mage concept suited me perfectly. I orchestrated the party and everyone needed and depended on me. If only there was more incentive. As a point of fuckedupedness, I tried reinstalling the game just recently 'cause I've been bored, and it wont accept my CD Key. They haven't gotten back to me either.

That's exactly why I went with the red mage. I can't stand having to stay completely outside of combat. A combat mage is pretty perfect.
I've just recently started again, with a new character. Playing on Titan...if anyone's interested in joining a new party.

to whoever said theres no major storyline like in the other FF games. You are wrong.
The good side, is that there is a very large story line, the bad saide is, it takes FOREVER to reveal. Seriously you have to get rank 10 and beat the last boss to get whats going on. You probably didn't get to the part about the crystal warriors, or the shadow lord, or what purpose the crags serve. Dynamis, in itself has its own thing going for it as well. And for those people who are sick of finding parties, you need to get a "set party" a group of people that you can rely upon to party with you and only you. Set a schedule, 8pm pst to midnight pst. I'm in a very very organized linkshell, We do eco warrior and garrison each week like clockwork. Its a well oiled machine. Its just up to you to establish a foundation for your gaming experience, otherwise yeah, freelancers are bound to get irritated as they get up in levels and have to beg for party spaces. if you wanna see the crystal warriors http://www.playonline.com/ff11us/mul...nch/index.html run it in demo mode. |
