Just lost my xbox
It's official, the machine has gone past repair, so I'm giving up on it.
I've owned it for a couple of years now, and to be honest, never really played it much. It was fun though to be able to kick back and play NHL 2k3 or Tetris worlds or something. I live in Ottawa (about five hours from where I am now, which is my family's house) and just recently came back for a few months before the next school year. I wanted to fire it up and give it a go, as I haven't had a chance to play it in some time, but no luck. She's a gonner. The question, and problem I have to pose to you gamers is, what should be done with all the extras I have with it? I've got about 8 games, 3 controllers, the DVD remote/thingy, and various accessories. I've never traded things in at EB or other game stores, but from what I've heard, I'll hardly get anything from them. There's ebay, which I've never used to sell, aswell. How do you guys and gals go about getting rid of extra supplies and stuff, when it comes to games? The two sets of wires for the xbox, and all that stuff. Is it worth anything? Do I just take it to EB and see what I get? Let me know where the best place to start off-loading this stuff is. Thanks in advance for the help. I really don't know where to start here. I would try to fix it first. I mean if you are going to deem it as a "gonner" I would at least try to fuck with it and get it going again
![]() Also, being the avid gamer that I am, I have to recommend playing more titles than just "NHL 2k3" and "Tetris Worlds" or whatever. If I were you, I would buy a new Xbox, keep the peripherals you have, and pick up some titles recommended by the one and only Lasereth ![]() If you HAVE to sell the items, Ebay it. DO NOT pawn it at EB or Gamestop, they won't give you shit on a stick.

Redjake, I guess I downplayed it a bit, I've been hackin' around for some time. It looks like the GPU or an overheating issue. I can get it going, but not for more than a few minutes.
Also, I've played quite a few titles, but not too much that I can sit down and just jam with for a while. I'm not as active a gamer as I was up until a few years ago. I just don't find the time or the attention span to game very much. That's why buying a replacement box isn't on the top of my list right now. My xbox was modded, and I probably used it as a Divx player more than anything else (for which is was AMAZING). If i got another one, I would feel like I'm missing out by not modding it, and modding it would be another 30-40 bucks CAD on top of the 200 that they go for these days. I know it's not much, but if I could get a decent amount of cash for the extras I've got, I'd much rather make a buck than spend one right about now. (However, I've been debating buying another with myself since I realized mine was out of commission). Lasereth, not very much. as far as games go: NHL 2k3 MotoGP MechAssault Tony Hawk 4 SSX Tricky Halo Quantum Redshift and the sega GT/jet set radio future disc that used to come with the xboxes the games are in great condition, except for ssx and halo which I bought second hand. I'm really anal about treating optical discs with care. SSX and halo are perfectly fine, they've just got a few bumps and whatnot on the dvd case. As far as extras go, there's 2 controller-s and one big normal one. A memory card, the DVD remote/sensor, the headset for xbox live... and I think that's about it. Unless I think of anything else, in which case I'll let you know. Redjake, that's what I thought as far as EB and whatnot goes. I'll look into what people are getting for this stuff on ebay. More opinions are welcome Just a note on the new xbox thing, my little brother has a Gamecube, so I'm thinking just picking up a game I like for that and a memory card should do me fine through the summer. The biggest loss for me is not having the divx player aspect of it. Last edited by sandeep; 05-12-2004 at 08:36 PM.. |

It's a sad day today. I'm making sure my flag is at half mast tomorrow. Another great american hero has died (an X-box). [/satire] btw, I love X-box

umm yah know its probably the dvd drive because certain ones they used are fuxored and you couldve gotten it fixed by microsoft if you hadnt broken your warranty by opening the thing up :S
anyways sell the games on ebay or to a friend, you will get nothing for them at eb... maybe enough to buy lunch at mcdonalds... i dunno, are you hungry? |

jam161, the one year warranty has been up for some time now. Plus, the symptoms don't point to the DVD drive, although I do have one of the older drives that was causing the issue.
By the way, yes, I am hungry. (But then again, I'm a fat guy so I'm always hungry :P ) |

Some places (like www.xbox-wired.com) do repairs on xboxs if you wanna try to save it. Unfortunately, shipping costs will be pretty high, but (pending repair costs) it'll be cheaper than a new xbox and a lot cheaper than a modded one.
It basically comes down to whether or not you're willing to pay a good amount of money for something used exclusively as a divx/media player. |
