Quote:
SAN FRANCISCO, May 5 /PRNewswire-FirstCall/ -- Eidos (Nasdaq: EIDSY - News), one of the world's leading publishers and developers of entertainment software, today announced that its highly-anticipated, action-stealth game Thief: Deadly Shadows, developed by Ion Storm, has gone gold for the Xbox® video game system from Microsoft and the PC. Thief: Deadly Shadows will be available at retail beginning May 26, 2004 in North America.

"Thief: Deadly Shadows brings the Thief gameplay to a whole new console audience without sacrificing the elements that made the originals such fan favorites. The addition of a fully-supported third-person mode, to supplement the traditional Thief first-person view, adds a whole new dimension to gameplay," said Warren Spector, studio director at Ion Storm. "Add to a cunning and robust AI system, a lighting and shadow system that dynamically effects stealth gameplay, an audio system and sound implementation that constantly amaze, as well as graphics that are, at times, astonishing. And there you have Thief: Deadly Shadows. Plenty for me and the team -- and players -- to be excited about!"

Thief: Deadly Shadows places you in the role of Master Thief Garrett, the quintessential anti-hero that steals from the rich and keeps for himself. In Thief: Deadly Shadows, Garrett finds himself assisting the Keepers, the secret society that trained Garrett in his youth. He is tasked with preventing a prophesised Dark Age from coming into fruition. Thief: Deadly Shadows was developed by Ion Storm, creators of the critically-acclaimed Deus Ex series.

Thief: Deadly Shadows will continue the Ion Storm tradition of open-ended emergent gameplay the studio is famous for. The freedom to choose a unique play style is what sets Thief: Deadly Shadows apart from any other game further immersing the player into the adventure. Thief: Deadly Shadows features a powerful physics system, startlingly smart AI, enhanced character modelling and animation, a groundbreaking sound propagation system and state- of-the art lighting and graphics for which Ion Storm is famous for.

Thief: Deadly Shadows ships to retail in North America on May 25th, 2004.

Warren Spector can kiss my hairy, Irish ass after Deus EX: IW. I still regularly play the original, but IW is total console oriented trash. I'm willing to bet that the standard Thief gameplay is trashed because it seems Spector has lost his way.

Third person view adds to the game? I dont see how, it would seem to take away from the "total emersion" value. Of course if you have the choice of views then you can choose it the way you want, which wont be bad. I do hope the PC version is a PC game and not a crappy port type job as was done with DE:IW and to some extent Halo was. But I ahve enjoyed the previous 2 games in the series, and have hopes for this one.

I played the demo for this on my PC.. very entertaining.. especially when you knock someone out and move their bodies around.. heh.. and the whole concept of being able to hide directly behind a statue while a guard passes you by.. probably think about getting this.. seeing I have an xbox.. but no games on it as of yet.. >_<
