GTA San Andreas
As you all may know GTA San Andreas is coming soon. What would you like to see in the new game? I think that the GTA series is getting a little bland. Don't get me wrong it is one of the best titles out there but Vice City was just like GTA3 but set in the 80's. What innovations does this new installment need to have in order to keep things interesting?

I'd really like to see an improvment in the pedestrian side of the game. I know that GTA is all about vehicles, but when I get out of the car and walk around it seems so lame.
The weapons are secondrate, can't aim worth a shit cause of the thirdperson view, even the walking controls are week. So...it would be nice to see and FPS view option and better control system when walking. |
-Being able to shoot people in cars, causing them to crash ala Mafia.
-When being chased by police be able to take people hostage at gun-point -Ability to take a plane to visit other places on the world map I'll think about some more.... |

Multiplayer!
I know some nice people are working on an addon for GTA3 and Vice City that allows multiplayer, but it can never be as good as if the game makers themselves designed it. Coop single player would be fun, too. One person could drive the car while another shot out of the window at cars trying to chase them down. Special missions could be designed to use two players at once, etc. |
You can already shoot people in cars in Vice city i think. Try using a sniper rifle and aim at their heads

GTA always brings something to the next version that keeps it interesting.
GTA 1- The original, one of the most entertaining games on the PSX GTA 2 - Introduction of the gang system GTA 3 - Behind third person view GTA 4 - Return of motorcycles, ability to buy property Rockstar will figure something. I bet they will try to take the step to make the game free-form so you can do whatever you want. What I would look for is the ability to rob banks, rob stores (not just point a gun, I mean more interactive), and possibly the ability to wage war against other gangs by recruiting various low-lifes and just have a massive shootout. |
It won't be too different that GTA 3 or VC since it is still based on the GTA3 engine. I'm still totally looking forward to it.

And yup, lose control and smack the ho's on the side the roads over. |
No, Rockstar have confirmed they're using the GTA3 engine again. Try a search on GameSpot or somewhere, I'm to slack to find an article =)

I LOVED the 80s theme of VC, but I agree that another use of the GTA3 engine will have to have something really fun. Yeah, I'd like more group stuff like they had in 2 where you brought guys with you. They did that a little bit in VC but I'd like to see it expanded. |
I do agree that a little more emphasis on the pedestrian side of the game would help, but Vice City was pretty much flawless imo. There really wasn't a whole lot of loose ends when it came to the game, and I really didn't see a whole lot of areas for improvement. Altho, the suggestions above were something I was going to post, maybe just bring the realism factor up a few notches, more properties to buy, etc.

-More interaction with the gaming environment i.e go into more buildings, pick up objects, etc...
-More interaction with characters. -More variety of vehicles, peds, weapons, etc.. -RPG elements like learning skills, increasing stats, etc.. -Option to create your own character or have a choice of other characters to use. |
The only problam facing the next GTA is the hardware limitation of PS2. Current games probably use 90% of the graphical power of PS2, so any dramatic improvements in San Andreas will be difficult.
But like Jimmy4 mentioned, GTA series has always be the most origional and innovative serie, so San Andreas will be definatily be a big improvment from Vice City. |

GTA series is hardly original nor innovative. The series is just evolving from overhead 2D to 3D. |
I also really wish they would develop it for a faster system, get the most out of the game, then port it with a chopped down version to the PS2 so it can be playable on that system... why do they cater to the lowest common denominator? it doesnt make sense!
oh well... at least there are graphical improvements in the PC ports, and that makes me a happy man in any case |
I don't get what all the fuss is about buying property.. you can't do anything with it. It's just another save point. It's not like it gives your power more influence or recognition.
I think the Pole Position Club was the only semi-useful once since you could get $4k a day from it once you acquired the asset. I want some kind of ability that lets you bribe cops. I'm talking about.. pay $X and you're free to do whatever you want for Y amount of minutes. I'd also like the ability to have influence or control on the other gangs. This applies more to GTA3 since almost every gang ends up hating you at the end of the game. Makes it very difficult to do the extra missions. If each gang has a leader and you pretty much have control of the city, they shouldn't be shooting at you any time you pass them. |
You get some money from all the properties, plus all give you missions to complete.
|
Just a few things I'd like to see...
errand boys - for a fraction of your earnings, people will drive around and collect money for you Right Analog Stick aiming better QA testing - I realize it would be an extremely long and arduous task to completely QA test everything in the game, thus the small bugs present in both GTA3 and GTA:VC. But if they went through the effort, and made the game that much more polished, I think the quality would be much better. I'm talking about the little things in the game like getting hurt from walking up or down a set of stairs... |
hmmmmm...
Pessemistic me: Rockstar might be tryin' to just get some extra bucks out of the GTA franchise. San Andreas may just end up as another city with another set of missions, nothing too innovative. After all, the GTA III engine can only do so much. Optimistic me: GTA Kicks ass. No matter what. And I have to agree with most of you that the gang system needs a bit tweaking. The GTA 2 system works, but the GTA Vice City system certainly doesn't. |

I guess I'm the only person that would be perfectly happy with a new story. :) If Rockstar changed nothing but the story and city then I'd be fine with San Andreas. They have a physics engine that allows for decent shooting, perfect car controls, and perfect crash realism. The graphics are decent, but I agree that it's about time for a overhaul. Not sure what else the PS2 can do with a GTA-type engine, though...the city is too big to make it that complicated. Rockstar has already coded the game so that nothing exists until you're about 100 feet from it (the city renders itself as you get near each location...each car, pedestrian, etc. doesn't even exist unless you drive near it) to boost performance, so there's not much else to do. The voice acting is top-notch, the music rocks, and the stories are already incredible. I know I'm repeating myself, but I only want Rockstar to change the city and story. Anything after that is just bonus material to an already near-perfect series. :)

New missions, new town. That's all they plan on doing for the most part and I'm happy with that.
They already have bribes, what do you think those floating stars are? This will be the last game on the GTA3 engine. GTA 4 will be for the next playstation and it will probably take quite some time for it to come out. One small thing I would like would be the ability to replay the missions and rampages once the game is complete. ATC's would be fun for beach areas, as would jet skis for the water. |
well, along the property line of things, more in depth as to controlling and siezing assets. imagine combining Simcity with Grand Theft auto!
variety of vehicles/weapons more npc involvement less linear story. alot less. the game itself wasnt linear, but the story was. |
I do believe that would be the greatest game EVER!
|
In general just add alot more missions and the ability to explore the city more.
Being able to stop your car in the parking lot,and then run in and buy a pizza from the guy behind the counter was pretty cool. More depth and influences of player choices on the city. |
I've got to say that the GTA Vice City game is one of my favorites. I love being the boss of everything so this was kind of my fantasy.. without all the sex and killing that is.
|
lol okay may I say this was my fantasy with all of the sex and killing!
;) |

But I expect more. That's the whole problem with basically everything. K-Mart has low prices? Wal-Mart lowers them more. Citibank made $10 a share last year? Next year we expect them to make $13. |
I wanna see crashes where passengers fly through the windshield. Although that might make driving around too difficult. Maybe it can just be reserved for NPCs.
|
Screenshots!

Looks awesome!
|
Oooh! Bicycles!
Other than that, looks like more of the same. And that's exactly what I wanted. |
I don't see this story appealing to me as much as the 80s theme of VC did, and I do see groups going nuts over the subject matter, but hey, this is GTA; no surprise there.
|
I would like to see more interaction with the pedestrains also. Destructible buildings would be cool.
|
Hey Jesus Pimp, where did those screen shots come from? I've been looking and can only find fake ones.
