one thing that i would like to see is some sort of view from the front, so at least you can keep driving well while shooting out the side.

and better "player" (non driving) control

I'm a pretty big fan of the whole GTA series and I am totally stoked for this game to come out.

While VC was pretty much GTA3 in the 80s I thought they made some pretty good improvements. The 80s theme rocked, too.

I will however have to wait for this game to hit the PC as I do not have a PS2. I believe Rockstar has a contract with Sony to produce the GTA series (I think GTA3, VC, and SA) to the PS2 first. Then after a few months they are allowed to release it elsewhere. This allows crazy people wanting the game now to buy it for the PS2, or buy a PS2 so they can buy the game.

As far as multiplayer, they did have this in GTA2. It was freakin' incredible. The bandwidth needed was insane though. We used to play on a LAN and it was pretty horrible. You had to communicate the exact location of every car, weapon, ped, and player. For the cars, you would have to know its direction, velocity, damage, etc. When you take the size of the citys in the more recent games this adds up to way too much data. They would have to limit the size of the city, or take out certain elements of the game to make it run at an acceptable speed.

There is a group who made modifications to GTA3, and VC (PC Versions) that allow you to play multiplayer. There are no NPC cars or anything though. Works alright, but just not the same as the GTA2 multiplayer. It's called MTA. A quick Google search should come up with it.

I still think the very first GTA for PC is the best game ever. Even better than these newer versions. Personally when I first bought GTA3 I was dissapointed because it was missing so much from the original. I think the 3rd person viewpoint killed it...

zero2 06-27-2004 06:43 PM

-Better looking models ex. pedestrians
-Buildings that you can enter
-Cops on motorcycles a.la Eric Estrada from CHIPS
-Online play, where you form a gang, and have turf wars, shootouts, and fight over drugs, money, women and other gang related squabbles.
-Downloadable content ie. cars, models, skins, levels, bug fixes..not that I'm hoping for bugs

You mean the third person behind the head. GTA 1 and 2 were topdown 3rd. I had trouble getting into GTA3 as well, but VC hooked me. A product has to change and evolve over its sequels or it just becomes Dynasty Warriors -- not that there's anything wrong with that.

kutulu 06-28-2004 10:03 AM

Topdown 3rd person views are almost never seen anymore. It just limits what you can do since there is no perception of height.

BigGov 06-28-2004 10:54 AM

There's enough. If you played GTA 1 or 2 you could tell when you were going to drive off something.

bltzkriegmcanon 07-01-2004 06:31 AM

Time for an update from our friends at IGN. There's some really good stuff in there.

Tusko 07-01-2004 09:04 AM

omg. soo pumped.

Plaid13 07-05-2004 10:47 PM

multiplayer coop would be a great start. being able to go into every building break into homes and steal maybe sell stuff you steal instead of just getting cash all the time.

Macheath 07-21-2004 07:25 AM

One detail which I'd like to see that I don't think has been mentioned is better physics when you hit pedestrians.

I think the technical term is "ragdoll physics"; a sense that the object you just hit (and is now grotesquely pinwheeling through the air) was indeed a 130 pound human body, rather than some barely noticed graphic element.

I think this one thing would make a big difference.

I wonder if he can become Jabba fat...

wario 07-24-2004 10:43 PM

Anybody remember "Gouroanga" from GTA 1? I hope they bring that back in a future GTA game.

Mr.Deflok 07-25-2004 12:04 PM

I wonder if being fat will change the script, like if you and your posse have some druglord pinned down in a gunfight does he yell "Fuck you you fat bastard!" or "Fuck you you little shit!"

Hercules 07-25-2004 09:29 PM

Are you serious about multiplayer in this game?
That is awesome!

I cant wait to hit cops on their bikes...
And for me to ride the bicycles around :D

Dwezz 07-26-2004 11:12 AM

You will have to eat from time to time and if ur to fat u'll have to go to the gym

I've heard that at the very least, people will make fun of you if you get fat. I'm not sure how much it changes the actual scripts though.

At least they put thought into the weight issue. Your character's strength, speed, and agility is strongly tied to the character's physique. I'd be disappointed if it was just a gimmick.

bltzkriegmcanon 07-28-2004 07:14 AM

Aight guys, I know we've hit on the topic of food for this game several times now, but I'd like to go ahead and post a "definitive" answer to the "fatass issue." From IGN:
Quote:

Everyone has already heard about the inclusion of dietary needs in Grand Theft Auto: San Andreas, but the specificities of how it works still haven't been explored very heavily. In an effort to clear up any confusion on this matter, Rockstar Games has released an official breakdown of the system and what players can expect when they utilize this feature on October 19.

From what we can tell so far, it's obviously a far more complicated system than what's found in Konami's "other big masticator" Metal Gear Solid 3: Snake Eater. Instead of just using the system as a means to increase character health as that game's does, GTA's version of the hungry-hungry goes far deeper. Granted, Carl Johnson can simply eat to keep his health meter up, but if he chooses to, he can do a lot more than that.

For starters, not eating on a regular basis will drain CJ of his natural muscle mass. The result is a skinnier, weaker version of his default character and clothes that fit differently. Additionally, being thinner makes CJ a lot weaker too; so lifting boxes becomes more difficult, swimming and cycling stamina is drained much quicker, and the force of his hand-to-hand combat is severely affected.

To avoid becoming emaciated like this, CJ will need to eat his food regularly. But to keep things realistic, Rockstar has given each food type its own calorie value that, in turn, alters the amount of energy and fat given to Carl Johnson. Of course, eating too much can have the opposite effect of what you want; as CJ can become incredibly overweight as well. In fact, CJ can eat so much food at one time, that it could actually force him to throw up - and if that happens, any stamina and nutrition that was consumed earlier is immediately lost. Additionally, vomiting frequently prevents you from buying more food for an undermined amount of time; further lowering your chances to increase your health.

But even if players don't throw up and continue to pig out, they'll be affected by their diet. In no time at all, they'll become absolutely gigantic with every animation and texture being affected. Their fattened CJ character will waddle instead of walk, stop and catch his breath after running too much and he'll even bulge out of his clothes should he get too big. This extra size affects gameplay performance too. Lifting, swimming, climbing, running, or doing anything else that involves frequent movement are all more difficult; and his reaction time is a lot slower too.

Another detriment to being too heavy is that Carl becomes an easier target for firearms and attacks (he is easier to see after all), and he'll even be made fun of by San Andreas inhabitants, complete with tailor-made far jokes. With side affects like this, we'd say it's time to get in shape there fatty.

In order to do so, CJ can actually spend time at the gym and work out. Building better muscle strength gives CJ more stamina, faster running abilities, and stronger hand-to-hand combat power. Lifting things will be easier too. CJ doesn't necessarily have to be a walking, talking tank, either. With two internal factors at work at all times (fat and muscle), players can tailor their character to be exactly how they want them to be. Creating a thin CJ with strong punching abilities is a good example of the type of mix and match possibilities that are available, and Rockstar plans to unveil other interesting hybrids somewhere down the line.

Regardless of what kind of eating and exercise habits players will form, however, they'll always need a place to eat. And places to eat are something that San Andreas has plenty of. The Chicken Bell, for example, features plenty of poultry dishes -- with burritos, fried chicken, wings, and chicken burgers all a part of the menu. The Burger Shot, on the other hand, is all about beef, beef, and more beef. We'll give you one guess where you can find the best hamburgers in town. If pizza is more your speed, however, then the Well Stacked Pizza parlor could be more your speed. Pick a pie in any size you want and get ready to pig out for some maximum Italian filling.

One final note that Rockstar wanted to stress, is that San Andreas will not all be about eating. This is simply a customization feature that its development team has included to add an extra bit of spice and customization to its already-sizeable living world. That said, it still remains to be seen just how necessary and strict the eating regiment will be.
That's pretty much the full article, but for those wanting to read it on IGN, well, here's you link.

Gamespot has a 6 page article about a lot of the things that will be featured in San Andreas, the game looks dope as hell. This is one game I'm really looking forward to.

kutulu 08-02-2004 01:32 PM

I like that double uzi action above. I heard they are changing the targeting system also. Hopefully there is some sort of auto aim still associated with it.

That's awesome.

Jeff 08-02-2004 02:31 PM

I was reading the Gamespot forums, and even though everybody that posts there are complete fucking retards, they got me worried with their talk about older versions of the PS2 not being able to play the dual-layered disk that GTA:SA is supposed to come on.

Can anybody shed light on this subject?

bltzkriegmcanon 08-02-2004 02:45 PM

Hmm, I'm not really sure about the different "versions" of PS2, and their capabilities (regarding dual layer discs), but if that were the case, I'm sure Rockstar would consider releasing a non-dual layer disc version, like a 2-disc version. Would be sensible to me.

ForwardtoDeath 08-02-2004 03:53 PM

yea, that duel layered thing scares me too. If anyone knows anything about it let me know please. Also, this game looks amazing and I cant wait for it to come out.

A buttload of the info here. I just became doubly excited.

SPOILER ALERT! SPOILER ALERT! SPOILER ALERT! SPOILER ALERT!
If you haven't beaten Vice City, please do not read this post.

1) DIRECT DEPOSIT. You shouldn't have to go collect your money from your assets. They should direct deposit into your account.

2) NO BOSSES. People like Lance Vance Dance and Sonny Forrelli took too long to kill. They're human just like everyone else in the game that is not you. They should go down w/ one shotgun hit.

3) MORE EFFICIENT WEAPONS. The range of sniper rifles should be extended. Also, smg's like uzi's and mp5's shouldn't take a million shots to kill one person. They are still bullets afterall, rapid fire or no rapid fire.

4) MORE EFFICIENT BREAKS. The breaks should be available to make turning easier while speeding, not just to slow the car down to a stop.

5) PEDESTRIAN ENHANCEMENTS. In Vice City, you start off as an ex con just out of prison. Pedestrians, should treat you like any average Joe Shmoe. But when you take over an entire city, they should move out of your way when you're walking down the street, or maybe even have someone take your picture.

6) PROPERTY ENHANCEMENTS. All home-properties should not only have a save point and maybe a garage, but should also be accessible from the inside. A new wardrobe for each estate would be nice, too, as not all mob bosses walk around in hawaiian shirts. You should also be able to take hookers with you into your estates. :)

7) GANG ENHANCEMENTS. Gangs should have more of a purpose than just to walk around and shoot at your gang. You should be able to ally with or go to war with different gangs, and it should show in the gameplay. Rival gangs should try to kill you when they see you, while allied gangs should help you whenever you're being chased by other gangs or the police. Also, the police should be considered a gang, and if you're allied with them (would be a special alliance that you get w/in a storyline), they shouldn't bug you if you commit a few crimes here and there.

8) POLICE ENHANCEMENTS. Just because you have a star shouldn't mean all police know where you are and that you are a criminal. Stars should be officer-specific, and once you kill that officer, the star should go away, unless of course another officer sees you and radios it in, which should add on to your wanted level instead. It sucks knowing you're going to either die or get arrested just because you accidentally ran over a cop.

9) ABOLISH TIME LIMITS. Time limits just make the game more difficult than it should be.

10) CHEAT ENHANCEMENTS. A few cheats that were noticeably missing are infinite health and infinite ammo. Sure, cheats take away from the chutzpah of the game, but some people just like to run around and cause havoc without worrying about dying or whatnot.

omega2K4 08-14-2004 03:51 AM

I'm a huge fan of the good GTA games (GTA & GTA2), GTA3 was pretty good, albeit extremely glitchy and buggy, GTA:VC was terrible in terms of glitches, Rockstar just rushed the hell out of it. However, if Rockstar actually takes the time to put a little effort and polish on this game, it might actually be good. If so, I'll wait for the inevitable (and far superior) Xbox version.

Jeff 08-17-2004 06:48 PM

I enjoy stopping by the San Andreas forums at Gamespot. Not for new information, but to see what new topics those complete retards have come up with. I found these forum titles within 5 pages. I didn't edit any of them.

"(On Topic) Do you think Tommy Vercetti is dead when San Andreas takes place?"

"When does an exsisting trailer will be held?"

"Where there any ''Sublime'' songs in the early 90's?"

"Body piercings. Thats waht we need"

"I bet you 5 dollar that sunglasses will be in the game."

"Do you think that we will learn about how CJ got his skills?"

"how many gin n juice versions are there gonan b?!?!?"

"2 Pac Or Not 2 Pac, That Is The Question!"

"DO u really think they will DROP osmething at the end just becuase its to much"

"Oh man, I can't wait to throw someone off the golden gate."

"Is cars more important in this game?? Eveyone read!!!!"

"For all of you who want lightsabers in the game ( I HAVE PROOF)"
