The dual-layered shit is just that: shit.

All PS2s can read dual layered DVDs, so there is no reason why they could not read dual layered DVDs formatted as PS2 game discs.

Yeah, but Sony's exclusive means that rockstar will have about 6 months to port the game to PC making it infinitely better than it will be on PS. Look at GTA Vice City: Sucked balls on PS2 (IMO) but played so well on PC. Crisper textures, further draw distance, smoother framerate... and (trumpets and fanfare).... MOUSELOOK! As for the comment about GTA not being original.... I think you need to lie down, you obviously are not feeling well.

It still boggles the mind in regards to why there won't be an Xbox version.
It makes no sense, and sony must have dished out major dollars to keep it exclusive.
But it sucks for the gamer because so much more could have been accomplished with the xbox.

I don't think I can wait 6 month lol, Get it on PS2 the first day then get the pc version.

I heard this a little while ago, about the time of the GTA III realese. That sony paid for 3 GTAs to be exclusive. Haha im not a credible source. But its something i heard. I totally agree though, this game needs X-Box. or game cube

I wished they had some sort of collectors box i could put all 3 of the GTAs in.

i heard a while ago too that Rockstar was contracted to make 7 GTAs (whether that includes GTA1, 2, and london as well as vice city being considered 4) and i think it was a deal with sony. but then again i'm not a source either...i have to find my GTA:VC game pro.

Rockstar simply bought the license to 7 GTA games. That doesn't mean they're making them...some people think they bought the licenses to trick people into thinking San Andreas wasn't the true GTA game being made. Seems like a waste of money, so I actually think they bought the licenses for future GTA games.

The problem with licensed cars is the the car makers don't want to see their precious cars damaged in games. So if GTA did license real cars it means that basically all cars would have to be invincible. Which sucks, but hey, if you get it for the computer someone will probably make a mod to change the names from the ones in GTA to the actual name the cars were modeled after. (Didn't something like that get released for GTA:3?)

[Guess]Some companys might not want to be asossiated with a game such as that. All the flack that these games get, could reflect badly on a car company. Endorsing such a product, could backfire on a car company.[/guess]

I was under the impression that GTA: San Andreas would be coming out on XBox, if a little later than the PS2 release?

They released 3 and Vice City on the XBox, so why not San Andreas?

I want to get this game, but I'd also prefer to play it on XBox.. But has it been confirmed that the game won't be coming to XBox, ever?

Thanks.

They actually confirm it for PS2 only at every GTA launch. Then when the Sony/Rockstar contract ends, Rockstar sells it to whoever wants to publish it on XBox. I remember all of the people going apeshit about Vice City not being on anything but PS2...then 3-6 months later it was already out on different platforms. I'd almost guarantee that it'll be out on XBox sooner or later.

All consumer PlayStation2s are able to read and play dual-layered DVDs. However, if you have an older PS2 that is beginning to go downhill, the ability to read discs is one of the first things that goes (because the laser head assembly attracts a lot of dust). If you're having some disc read errors or anything like that, you should try going in there with some compressed air, and see if that makes it better at all.

There are already a number of PS2 games that are released on dual-layer DVDs (usually ones with lots of content).

This game is BAD ASS.

1. The music is great. Totally early 90's stuff. Danzig, Faith No More, Alice in Chains, Dr. Dre, Young MC, etc..

2. Huge as HELL, but like all GTAs, the areas are limited when you first start playing, so I haven't yet seen the other areas of the game.

3. Stats are kinda cool and adds an RPG feel. Periodically you'll get stats.. like if you ride around in a bike and go in some pools, your bike riding stat will go up. If you run around, your "Fat meter" changes.

4. Physics engine is more realistic in terms of driving. Plays much better than the past games.

5. They say "fuck" a lot. Not really a big deal, but I'm glad they haven't held back in terms of dialogue. I know in GTA and VC the most you got was "shit" or "asshole". Makes it more controversial

As for dual layer, it's not. The game fits on one normal DVD-R (unless this one I have cut out videos or compressed stuff, but it doesn't appear so).

I only played for like an hour, but from what I saw, it's nice. I mean, it's nothing revolutionary, but it's definitely a change for the better. I haven't seen any of the more "detailed" features, like car modding or anything yet... but I'm assuming all that stuff comes wayyyyyyy later on.

Part of the humour of the GTA series is the subtle satire the car names are. I can't remember specifics, but there was this SVU that was named after its gas hungry ways

I hope they change the physics engine (or stats) so that lamp-posts don't fall over when you touch them and cars don't bounce when you walk into them.

Apart from that, I kinda like the GTA series.

Got bored (read as stuck) in GTA2 and am now playing GTA:VC.

Fun.

Actually, I like those "features." When you're just running around, wreaking havoc, sometimes it's fun to be able to push a parked car out into the middle of the street. Also, after playing Driv3r, I really REALLY missed the falling lamp posts.

"40.5%" is hardly anything to fuss about. I do think they mean no posting cracks, etc... when they forbid warez.

I'm sure discussing modchips, usenet, DVD-Rs, etc.. is fine (why wouldn't it be? all are legal). I'd be more concerned about the posts where people admit to smoking weed or something, if anything (even that.. I wouldn't worry about).

I think posting "Here's the URL to the crack of blah" or "The cdkey is xxx-xxxx" is different from saying "I'm downloading it now". As if saying the action itself is forbidden fruit, hehe.

No different from people talking about mp3s in music, I guess. No one's posting direct links, just stating how to get them here and there (p2p, usenet, etc).

It should use a dual-layer DVD, from everything I've heard. It's possible that they managed to compress it, it's also possible that the person at the plant or wherever leaked it just grabbed the first layer's master DVD. That would be interesting, if it were the case.

This gamel looks mad.

Was supposed to come out here on the 22nd but now they say the 29th.
I like the fact when you travel from the city to city you have to use the freeways and pass through small country towns. The ability to swim as well is gonna be cool to.

games like True Crime and Driver3 are don't compare to the size and scope of GTA.

I can't wait!

Well, I don't have a dual layer drive, the game fit on a standard DVD-R, and it has all the music, movies, etc.. so I dunno.

Unless the copy I have mysteriously stops at 50% through, it's the real deal.

Everyone else on usenet is reporting the same - it's the real thing. *shrug*

Dont worry everyone, its NOT DUAL LAYER. It fits on one dvd-r. And yes I do have it so and I could answer a few questions like Samuel L Jackson is one of voices in the game.
