I might just do that CofA. Was our advice useful to you? or are you still hearing: "I thought you said you could shoot, Carl!"
_____________________________________ I think I've been neglecting my social life since this game came out. Here is a text message I got last night: this is a message from GTA addicts anonymous. some friends feel you need some support. step 1 is admitting you have a problem. |
I love this game. I just beat it. It makes me feel all good inside...
The last level is unforgiving and takes a half an hour to do. Be prepared. |

I need some advice: is there anything I MUST do now before Spoiler: leaving Los Santos for the first time to get 100% at the end? Hoping to cut out this afternoon if there's not.
|
Haha, i just started the game.
|
Man I can't believe so many of you are so far into the game or even finished! I am still on Los Santos at the moment! I did get all the 100 tags so at least some decent weapons spawn at my safe house! A few questions though: -
1. Is it really worth doing the gang wars as too much of my time seems to be taken up protecting my turf and gaining new turf? 2. Is it worth buying all available properties yet? |

Sup guys...I need some help here...Is it necessary to complete Spoiler: driving school and zero's missions to move on? I really can't wait to move on, and they're holding me back!
|
What do the firefighting, police, and ambulence missions give you think time around. I'm hoping for a flamethrower for firefighting. I did the pimp missions and taxi missions, not to bad, but the firefighting one can get annoying.
|
biznatch: No, though it helps to do the former from a purely skill standpoint.
EDIT: On reflection, it IS neccesary to do both at some point, but if you're stuck on them in San Fierro, you don't have to do them yet. Akira: Firefighting makes you fireproof, as it did in VC. Police is the armor boost as before, and ambulance is the health boost pizza missions gave you in VC. Firefighting is rough, but the paramedic missions are the hardest, in my opinion. |

Waited in line for a hour to get it a day early, went back home to play it and someone stole my ps2, sucked, so i went out and bought a broken one for 30 bucks and fixed it, works like new. Great game! Playing through with no cheats, more fun that way.

yup i think the map is a little TOO big... I hate it when I have to go pick up someone on the other side of the state..and then he's in my car and I decide to go a lil crazy offroad and the car blows up....done this 3 times on the same mission...want to cry already..lol
|
Ugh. I think I've hit a particularly awful glitch.
Spoiler: I can't ever seem to take Millie out on a date. I did the first mission with her and then went off to do a bunch of other things, and now she's the last thing I've got to do(heh) in Las Venturas (and finishing the heist of the casino, which I can do once I get the key from her.) I show no progress rating with her on my stats window and though the heart is on my map, I've been by her house around 2 AM a dozen times and she's never been there. WTF? |
We could devote a whole new thread to glitches in this game.
Probably the worst one I've come across was the underwater Ballas. Frustrating but funny at the same time. |
Underwater Ballas???
Major Spoiler: "Killed" Ryder and Toreno, yet something tells me Ryder is coming back from his watery grave. I may be wrong, but eh, if Toreno can do it... Anyways, flight school is hard as heck! And Toreno keeps teasing me about a "cock" going up Sweet's "ass" hehehe. I love this game. |

I enjoyed taking over all of the territories before I moved on. I got a lot of money and had a lot of fun doing it. I just started the Badlands/SF area. It's fun to have new surroundings but it's very difficult to have to learn my way around a new city. Taxi missions might be a good way to get to know the city well.
|
Well, i'm borrowing the game from a friend and all i can say is: How many thumbs do the rockstar developers have??
First they remove the abilty to control cars with the dpad, then they expect us to use the left thumbstick, the right thumbstick and the buttons all at the same time!! Pityful.. |
How come no one told me that flight school would be so damned hard? I can take-off, land, and fly straight, but when it comes to flying through the checkpoints and turning, I completely suck! I can at most get through three checkpoints but after that my plane starts spinning and going every which way. The kicker is you HAVE to do it to move on.
|
Where is flight school? when can i go there?
|
It'll come within the missions. You'll see. ;)
Spoiler: Las Venturas |
The flight school just takes practice. Turning involves more banking than using the rudder, the rudder if for sharp turns. Always remember to keep your plane horizantal after a turn. If your plane is horizontal, that will stablize it. Also, remember to take up your landing gear.
|
Quote:
|
CityOfAngels: Flying the first plane is tough. Remember to use the rudder controls (L2 and R2) more than the analog stick, and don't overcorrect. Try to keep the plane level. It really does get easier. I struggled with flight school, and then my buddy beat it while I was away. I went back after having flown a lot for the later missions to get better medals and the school was much easier, not only because I was better at flying but also because CJ was.
lukethebandgeek: do you mean you just skipped that aspect of the game? I really don't want to do that. :( |
Quote:
Also about taking over gang territory: Spoiler: I wouldn't bother taking over gang territory before moving out of Los Santos. My roomate took over all the territory before advancing and when he got back to Los Santos toward the end of the game all the gang territory was back and he had to do it all over again. |
You dont need to do flight school to fly..
take a car to the airport, hop out and jump ontop of your car. climb the wall and go into the hangar. Jump in a plane and fly it around.. You only need about 20% experience flying to move on.. Voila! no need for flight school! |
AFAIK: Spoiler: you need to finish flight school before moving onto the Toreno/Truth missions at Verdant Meadows, and eventually gaining it as an asset/base for all manner of flying machines
Flight school really sucks though if your flying skill is low, turning the plane through the coronas is like flying a freight train. |
Maybe i should use Puetetre's idea to build up my flying skill and then try the flight school. Thanks for all the ideas, guys!
|
I seriously have worries about Rockstar's ability to design games. Sure, the game is fun, but there are so many annoying parts that it becomes just a 'good' game.
Take the highways for example, how crappy is the driving of the computer cars? It's disgraceful. Your driving a delicate truck down the road and all of a sudden a vehicle decides it wants the same lane as you. I stopped at a motel by the side of the highway, after a few seconds there was a huge pileup at the entrance. Seems they can only handle the few seconds of driving and go crazy at other times. Now, i'm not sure how much of San Andreas is based on real life, but it was also slightly annoying when i set out a nice route for my truck mission, only to find i got stuck in a tunnel! But, the main annoying thing, is the camera (and controls in general), it's just too damn low. I'm going over a hill and can't see what's infront of me, when i'm driving an expensive car, i need to fiddle with the view to make sure i'm not going to hit something. You can get around it by holding the left thumbstick up a bit as your drive, but i'd much prefer it to be set like that. There is no drawback to the extra height, as the horizon is still on your screen. Oh, and the draw distance sucks and cars still dissapear when you change your view. But that's to be expected on an ageing console. On the more strange side of things: I just came out of a burger joint in San Fiero to see a plane exploding down the street! Rather odd. And there was that truck that was doing a permanent front wheelie... |
I am about ready to throw my control at the TV...
I'm STILL stuck in flight school, trying to "circle around the airstrip." Well, I FINALLY completed it, and I was all excited and happy....but no, I got 0% because it took me 116 seconds. ARGH!!
|
I've been thinking about the characters in the game....
The two Brits are obvious pisstakes of Oasis. Ken Rosenberg... am I the only one who thinks he's based on Larry David ? I swear that "Do you like my shirt ?" comment was taken straight from an episode of Curb your Enthusiasm. OG Loc... a pisstake of 50 Cent ? Or a more general pisstake of gangsta rappers ? |
Just got the game on Friday. Ignored all the side mission stuff and started doing "real missions". A lot of them probably would have been easier if I had a better weapon than the pistol, and if I had bothered to find an armor vest. I'm at a point where the only "real mission" I can do is for Jeffery (OG Loc). It may be time to do some side missions 'cause having $3 sucks (lost 2 grand betting on slow horses), and more guns would help.
Does getting a tattoo eventually come back to haunt you? I noticed that there is a remove tattoo option at the tatoo artist's and figured it's probably there for a reason. |
No, I don't think tattoos mean anything (other than boosting your sex appeal and maybe respect).
I liked the fact that it was so difficult for CJ to learn to fly. He's a ghetto boy, what the hell does he know about planes? Just stick with it. Plus, if you fail a few times you get to hear Toreno just rip into you with the patented James Woods verbal abuse. I especially liked Harry Horsecock. The absolute hardest part of the game is the second mission in the Zero strand, "Supply Lines". Controlling the little RC plane is difficult, but you can master it. Even so, you still have to get lucky to finish the mission within the time limit. Overall, an excellent game. This is the one that pushes the PS2 to its absolute limit. I expect that the next GTA game will be on a new system (XBOX 2?) with a new engine. |
Ken Rosenberg was definitely based on Sean Penn's classic David Klienfeld character in Carlito's Way, this much I know...
|
Quote:
He looks EXACTLY like Larry David. Tatts add respect and sex appeal, although sometimes your homies and random civs will mock you for them "have you been drawing on yourself again CJ?". I got tattoos all over, except the abs, not really keen on getting a grove street logo tattoed over the sixpack. |
All i have to say is its fun
|
Haven't been able to play it in like 2 weeks! I want to! now!!!
|
This game never ceases to amaze me really...
I mean, is there any other game where you can spend the evening beating hookers to death with a dildo, then cruise on back to your crib and take your badarse nitro car out racing? Has anyone even attempted the freight train missions? They seem awfully difficult, I just derailed for the fun of it... |
Quote:
|
How to do the freight train mission easily. Sort of cheating but not really.
Spoiler: Keep the speed below 45. 45=derailment, 44= O.K. My braking technique was to keep the speed at roughly 10% of the distince. i.e: 300m to go, speed=30, 150m to go, speed=15 until the last 50m or so, keep at speed=5 and stop in the red thingy. Don't overshoot because reversing is slooooow. |
I agree with jwoody's assessment of the train missions. That was the strategy I had worked out, with a slightly lower top speed.
|
The improvements in this game are amazing! I just bought this game a few days ago and i've been on it forever! Its totally huge! Big map, so many more details like appearance. I mean, now there are so many more stuff to do like playing pool, gym and such. But... Is it getting too complex?
|
too complex?..........that's what I'm thinking
I love the game, but it just doesnt have the same feel of gta 3 and vice city, it's just getting too real, not the same "game" sort of feeling the others had/have also seems to be getting too far away form the very first gta games as well with the whole south central gangster element, doesnt seem to blend with the others like it should (not the gang element itself, obviously, just the way it's portrayed). although i'm sure this is the games major selling point, especially to those not really familiar with the series. |
well I actually like the incorporation of the whole SoCal, Crips vs. Bloods (here Grove Gang vs Ballaz), gangsta/thug all that stuff...because the golden age of "gangstas" is after all around 1992...
and I was getting sick of VC being too Scarface oriented..and too many Italian mafia people in GTA3(and Italian mafia is too cliche).. Well maybe its because I appreciate rap and hip hop.. but....yeah |
I heard there's a clothing shop where you can buy underwear, so you can change them whenever you go swimming to prevent the "You wearin' a diaper!?" comments. Anyone know where to get 'em?
|
Zero's missions are really pissing me off. I did the first one (took me about 10 tries) and I've made like 4 attempts at his second one. I don't even want to think about the last one.
|
Does anyone know when the PC version is to be released?
|
Quote:
|
IMHO means? In my holy opinion? In my humble opinion? hrmmm..
|
It means quit being a biznatch. :p
Yes, it means "In My Humble Opinion." You can also look at it literally and they'll be saying "I'm Ho," whatever that means. |
I've finished the game but I thought I'd get Zero's missions.
I've had about 5 goes at them. The fucker never said anything about returning the plane home!!!! I was literally 10m away from the circle when I ran out of fuel, what a rip, I could have easily coasted there  |
It took a bunch of tries but I finally got 'Supply Lines' done. fhqwhgads was right, his last mission was a piece of cake. I also got all golds in Driving School last night. 'City Slicking' was a pain in the ass. I had no problem getting a low enough time to get the 100% but I'd always nick something along the way. I did it for over an hour straight.
|
i would have to say that the stupid mission with the red baron i was losing my hair it took me like 20 tries but i eventually got it, driving school was tough too i'm trying to get all golds but that city slickin mission is just too damn hard however i did get all golds in the flight school the destroy targets was the hardest. i also did boat school, so there's just bike school and whatever other school that there is, oh yeah has anyone got all of the cars for the first list at the docks???? and if so can u tell me where u found the remington, patriot, and camper....i think the camper is on the highway down by angel pine i could be wrong,.
|
Remington - Badarse lowrider thing with fins, I've seen em around Grove St.
Patriot - There's one in the naval base if you're game, I've also seen one parked outside a food place in Venturas. Camper, these suckers are all over San Fierro in the hippy districts. In other news, I'm curious to know what you guys deck your character out in. Any good clothing combinations you can reccomend. Currently, since I'm engaging in an all out street war, I've got CJ in a 'Battle of Algiers' getup: Khakis, aviators, red beret and a lot of weapons. But when I'm doing business I prefer the tweed suit, spats and dark trilby - you get a pimping cane too! |
Spartak: if you don't finish Zero's missions, you can't do the Heist, can you?
|
I don't have this game, but a friend does and everytime I go visit I play this game. Trying to play Vice City after San Andreas is like trying to play Everquest after playing WoW. Just completely different and alot better.
|
Quote:
For the last part of the game CJ rocked a proper mob suit which cost me over $15k from DS. I had the tweed pants and jacket with the blue and black boat hat. At the start I had him in a combat jacket and green jeans (for the grove!). At SF I had him in beige Kahkis, a black sunhat, some shades, and a Jerry Rice 49ers top... well it looked EXACTLY like a 49ers top, minus the logo, although it did have a certain #80 on the back and the white bands on the sleeves, I think I got it from BinCo in SF... or maybe it was a Zip. I did some of LV in the forementioned top, but when I got back to LS I got me a LV Bandits baseball jersey and some better shoes, the spats from DS. I also bought heaps of random clothes, my clothing budget is well over 45k :D Quote:
In other news I just finished the Zero missions. The last one was actually fun and not stupid and annoying like the others. |
Any word on a PC version?
|
Summer '05 ?
I bought a PS2 just to play SA, it was well worth it :D |
I've pretty much had my CJ in green low tops all throughout the game until recently. I also update his chains and watch whenever I possibly can. Here is a documentation of his style-evolution:
1) Bandana on the head, tied in the front, and a bandana to cover his mouth, both to make him look like one of those crazy gangstas you see on those Bloods and Crips album covers. :) Green army jacket (not camo, just a dark, faded green), grey jeans, and green low-tops. Oh yeah, can't forget the cornrows underneath that bandana. 2) I decided to punk him out this time. I gave him a pink mohawk and brown sunglasses. I made him go shirtless so he could show off his tats. I don't want to go over the various tats I got him, but the most notable one is the AK-47 going across his back. That tat just looks SOO mean when he's all buffed-out. I then gave him those black/grey camo pants, and I let him keep his green low-tops. 3) This one I made him look like a suburban drug-supplier. You know, the guy who gets the drugs from the big guys and distributes it to the dealers. I gave him blonde cornrows with a black sunhat. Throw on some black sunglasses and a skyblue shirt. Some black khakis and brown mountain boots and you're ready to go. All he needs now is a Hummer to drive around and scout out various high schools. :p Heh, dress-up Barbie for guys. |
Mooove yo bodaay! Mooove yo bodaay!
I FINALLY beat Flight School! And the trick was SO OBVIOUS too! Just hit select a few times to go into first person view and it makes it sooooooooooooo much easier!
WHOOHOOO! :) |
I never really got into dressing CJ, just like I find the dating thing somewhat boring, so he's pretty much been wearing a wife beater or jean jacket, black pants, green head rag, gold watch, and some sort of chain and shoes since I bought them. Now that I'm starting to accumulate a fair chunk of money, thanks to the Heist and starting to export cars, I can just buy everything in every store.
Does anyone else find the money collection to be somewhat random? Sometimes I'll go by one of the places that accumulate and pick up a couple grand, and then run back by in less than five minutes later to find another 1500, but other times I'll stay away from the property for weeks at a time and still find it not maxed out. |
I don't change his clothes very often. For a while I just ran around in the heart boxers. Right now he wears the khaki pants with the bowling shirt, sunglasses, and the pot leaf necklace (he always wears that)
|
Money was never an issue for me, since I got a couple of million by betting on the crappy odds horse a couple of times.
|
thanks kostya for the help, believe it or not the camper was the hardest thing to find, i know they're all over but i couldn't find any until i was flying my hunter and found it on the top of mount chilliad...lol
has anyone noticed how everything has to do with 69 in this game? like seriously, the end of runways, that store called 69, i think i saw another 69 on the nrg-500...i thought it was all funny but whatever |
I really like the clothes idea but I think it was poorly implemented. Instead of going into a room, selecting the item and having to wait for him to walk out they should have had a preview of the item appear in a window before he models it. You should also be able to change as many items as you want before he comes out of the dressing room. It would save so much time when you are looking for the right combination.
4 more missions till I'm done with SF. When you get to the Desert can you go into LV? I want to collect the horseshoes so I can get the free guns in LV. |
Quote:
|
Sweet. I'm going to be up late tonight checking out LV.
|
Dude...I can't wait...been studying and all lately so I haven't had time...I'm doing Jizzy's and Woozie's missions at the time, but I want to open up more! more!...
and the map is just so goddamn fuckin' huge!! I always have to check the mep when I'm going somewhere precise...plus my TV is kind of small, which doesn't help. Also in one of Woozie's missions where you have to drive around the countryside in a decoy car, I failed the mission, but I noticed the car is bulletproof.. So I took back to my garage in SF and saved it, then I modded the shit out it...it kicks ass... Now I know to save all those "special cars" from the missions. urgh fuckin great game. |
Sky-diving is SOOOO fucking fun in this game! I've played Halo 2, but GTA: SA gets my Game of the Year vote for the sky-diving feature alone! AMAZING!
|
SKydiving rocks bigtime, I've been trying to recreate the Con Air finale by landing my Jet on the Venturas Strip, but so far I've had little luck. In fact I've been doing a lot of movie references lately. Driving my Sabre around San Fierro and doing the whole Bullitt car chase. Driving down the strip in a fireapple red convertible at nighttime like Raoul Duke... Ahh what a great game.
Lately I've been having a lot of fun trying to throw satchel charges onto people, or dirt ring racers for that matter, nothing funnier than watching those suckers round the bend at a billion miles per hour only to explode when I press circle and cause a gigantic catastrophe. Does anyone know what you get for getting your progress with a woman to full? I mean, after a couple of dates Denise gave the keys to her Hustler, big mistake, I mean I returned it and all, as I dived out of it at high speed halfway across the bridge with four bike cops trailing me and a trail of corpses a mile long behind me as well, it slid right back into its parking spot and came to rest on its side. |
I remember once Denise called me on the Cell why I was in the airport...So i stole a plane, flew real low and jumped out right next to her house....
the plane wreck even killed two Ballaz :D This game rooooocks |
Quote:
Basically there are 6 girlfriends you can find and they all give you something different. Just for dating certain ones, you'll get to keep your weapons after being busted or killed. They all give you the keys to their car at 50% progress. And at 100% they will give you a present...a special outfit. If you want to know exactly what outfits you get i'll tell you, but I didn't want to just blurt it out. I think the outfits are worth the trouble, but alot of people don't. They aren't required for 100% completion so they are completely optional. |
Cool, now I'm going to have to get my mack on to get more clothes...
I don't like Denise either, but it's so easy to get progress with her... Hobag... |
I did Denise but I'm waiting to collect all the oysters before I get with the other girls. A lot of them have muscle and weight requirements. These requirements are removed if you collect all oysters.
|
About those "requirements", this chick in Driving school says I need to gain some wait...
how fat do I need to get...it's kind of annoying because I was looking fresh with the 6 pack going on... So yeah...Do i have to get huge...or just chubby??or what? |
Quote:
There is a girl later on, I think her name is Barbara, and she prefers the morbidly obese. If you have access to Las Venturas, you can collect all the Oysters. You'll get a sex appeal boost, and all of the dating requirements will be dropped, and you'll no longer have to wait to be invited in for "coffee". |
Even losing muscle is pretty easy. Just don't eat for a few days and be active. I went down to 0 muscle and 0 fat pretty quickly.
|
Spoiler: Man, when I flew to Liberty City, I thought that Rockstar threw-in Liberty City as a surprise city to roam free in. I was quite disappointed when I had to fly back. :(
I just completed the heist in Las Venturas. That level was pretty kick-ass. |
The heist was so cool...
But why Spoiler: did you need to steal four police bikes when you only used two in the getaway? |
I can't wait to got this game for my own this month.
|
i have no friggin clue how i did it, but i got all golds in driving school, flight school, and bike school....lol driving was the hardest but to beat city slickin just put in first person and it'll seem slower which helps out a lot, on burn a lap use regular brakes instead of E-brake, but hit the brakes before going into the turn and start to turn but let go of the brakes and hit the gas to help spin the car around...
|
One mission left, but Spoiler: I have to get more gang territory before I can do it. Anyone know how much territory I need before I can talk to Sweet?
|
Quote:
|
hm..I'm at the Toreno's last flight mission. real fuckin annoying...I lost my motorbike once while I was on the freeway chasing him, (it fell over the side)...So i chased by foot across the valley and did like 2 miles to get another bike parked alongside(no vehicles spawn on the road on that mission, only parked)..
And I failed the mission. aaah frustating game... |
MY brother is having real trouble conquering all the gang territory, he's got only this tiny sliver of Balla territory up near Mulholland, but can't find enough gang members to start a war.
I worked out if you just save, then you don't have to defend your gang territory when it gets attacked, it just disappears when you save. |
I find it easier going it alone in gang wars, it's easier to lead the AI around as they're following only you. Aside from that, I've got Mr. T. Wearing only green track pants and sun glasses, complete with the haircut and assault rifle, Mr. T kills people.
|
Xell101, which barbershop can you get the Mr. T style haircut in? Is it the actual tri mohawk or just a thick, flat one?
|
hah. just unblocked the whole map. and the desert is just "wow".
endless possibilities, desert vehicles are so cool, crazy missions.. I didn't find Las venturas very fun yet...Do I have to complete flight school (or Zero's missions) to unblock some fun in LV? |
FL8ME: Try Gay Gordo's (I think that's the name of the Barber Shop) in North-East Las Venturas.
biznatch: Forget Zero's missions, but yes, you MUST complete flight school in order to go further. Too hard? Press select a few times to go into first person view. It makes it a LOT easier to handle the air-vehicles. |
Does anyone know where to find the Jetpack? I want to collect all the horseshoes.
|
Quote:
|
The Mr. T cut I believe is the South Eastern most salon. Should be near the lowrider customization garage I believe. It's definitely located in Los Santos, and as far as I know it is indeed the Mr. T cut. I think it's just Mohawk w/ beard on the list.
|
i don't own the game yet, but i had a tremendous amount of fun at my friends place running around and capping people in the face. I also witnessed CJs amazing mountain climbing skills as he scaled i guess what is the highest mountain in the game...right as i was about to jump off for fun just to see what would happen...i noticed a bike...and next to this bike was a paracute and a ramp...Extreme sports AH YES!
|
I liked the big afro and beard look, but apparently it has low sex appeal. Once the "Gimp suit" became available, every mission has been done in it since.
|
Has anyone else suffered from the Gym glitch? I can't work out anymore. Every time I go to the gym, I get the "you have worked out enough" message. Nothing has helped. It's been about 2 weeks (realtime) since I've been able to work out.
|
I'm on the last mission right now, so this entire message will be in spoiler tags.
Spoiler: Man, I wish they broke this mission down into several missions. I was able to kill Big Smoke, I caught Sweet when he fell from the fire engine that Tenpenny was driving, but those gatos on motorcycles blew my car up. I was SOOOO pissed when I saw I had to do the entire mission all over again! shoooot. |
